tahrens - 2010-06-21 10:39 PM Hi everyone.  I'm going to be off line for most of the week.  I'm taking a Project Management training class all week from 8am to 6pm.  Ugh.  10 hours a day of hierarchy charts and definitions.  Anyway,  I'll try to read as many RR as  I can throughout the week.  Congrats to all the racers and first time runners out there.

P.S.  Sam,  that is too funny about the shoes.  I received a call last Friday from my daughter complaining about a broken flip flop and wanting me to come to school with a new pair of shoes. How funny.

Remember to stay on the critical path and avoid scope creep.

Ok, I'm getting tired of WIND.  Last night I went to the local no drop ride which I still get dropped each week. I get to the start and there are big gray clouds in the sky and the radio is saying thunderstorm warning and I'm thinking that I'll wait and see who comes and we'll talk for a minute then decide to cancel the ride. Nope. About 20 people showed and started the ride.  I got droped about 2 miles into the ride.  The storm picked up and the crosswinds felt like I was getting pushed off the road. I was mad at myself for even starting the ride. I was mad about being dropped again. I made it to the Loves gas station. And waited out the big wind and rain with two other dropped guys. When it died down I headed back to my car. The guys continued on together.  Nobody got hurt or crashed but I still think we made the wrong choice to ride.

So now I think I've ridden in about all types of wind.  I'm hoping that the wind for my MS150 will be on my back.

I totally understand, I swear it has rained every day here in Columbus, Ohio for 2 months straight. I am fine with riding in the rain but these usually end up the same way and in a storm. What is a drop ride?

LOL, lots of kid pictures this summer, hopefully not boring but it was my sons first swim meet.  He basically learned to swim about a week before practice started.

Quick sequence of how it went down.  LOL, parking there was crazy, he swam for about a minute and it took 15 minutes to drive, 30 minutes to park, 15 minutes to wait.

Waiting for the start

Looking serious, checking his start position.

The Start, he's the one on the far end.  It's funny they all belly flop in the pool to start.

And their off...  and swimming...and swimming... and swimming...

He hasn't quite made it the whole way yet, he asked me if I could stay at practice today so he could show me that he could.  He said yesterday it didn't happen because he didn't get enough food to eat.

And we're done.

I'm not being a butt, but what is the point of no drop ride if they drop several people in the first few miles?  I guess my version of "no drop" is different.  HOWEVER - big hats off to you gut it out through the weather!  Keep it up!

I was cheering for him too. I am hoping my daughter goes for swimming. I am teaching her to swim now (she is only 2). She loves the water.

(below) this is her new swim outfit, she loves to swim and I am teaching her using this. Yes those are rain boots she is wearing. $2.00 from a garage sale, wears them everywhere.

This is my little one in her new swimsuit. Yes, she is wearing rain boots lol
This is her by the pool, such a little show off.
She is a show off for sure, she loves the outside.
Showing off her fathers day shirt, I picked it out. And yes those are rain boots.
This is the fathers day shirt, I picked it out. Yep those are the rain boots again.

Tiana:  I applaud you for starting the ride and gutting it out.  You might not realize it now, but that behavior is making you a stronger athlete in the long run.  Your next race could be wind central and you will have dealt with it all.  Chin up!

Tony/Sam: Love the photos.  I only wish I my parents started me so young...my tri life would be far less complicated

Once again, I'm already done working out for the day! A puny little 1600 yard swim...off to finish the root canal later this afternoon before a massage and then another family reunion. This time at someone else's house!

AGREED!!! Tony those pictures are awesome!! OMG, I would be standing on the deck with tears streaming down my face (proud mama tears!!) for sure!! LOVE IT! I have GOT to take my camera to tonight's swim meet. I'm the total "stage mom" prepping the kids -- they have older buddies who get them to their lanes and get them all set, but of course I am in there as well giving them tips and pointers and reminders and encouragement and love and hugs. I cannot wear mascara to these things as I am a weepy mess (as with so many things pertaining to the kiddos -- I'm a total SAP!). Anyway, I'm so excited for the kids to swim again and race. I think this week is my daughter's week to shine if she gets to throw down a 25 free. She is FINALLY listening to her coach's and my suggestions about how to side-breathe and her stroke is 6,000 times better. And we'll see if my son channels his inner Michael Phelps again. Being a parent rocks.

Thanks for posting those pics, Tony!

Awww man, Tiana.... you get HUGE, MAJOR bad-@$$ props from me!! I cannot believe people get dropped on the no-drop ride. I would be livid. But determined as well. Good for you for sticking it out. I've had my fair share of "what the heck am I doing riding my bike in this crap" rides this year and every time I told myself, "That which doesn't kill you..." Sometimes it's a wonder we make it out alive. You are strong and tough and awesome. Good job to you. One day I hope you drop those peeps!!

Milk is what got my wife in trouble when she was pregnant, she thought there was no harm in drinking a lot of it. By a lot I mean a gallon every other day it seemed.

Tony/ Sam great pictures. My grandaughter is into swimming too. Soon she'll be out there without floaties. I said as soon as she is as tall as Suzy she can go without them. She said that should be soon

Mark. Your daughter is so cute. She sure knows how to relax by the pool

Triana. Way to hang in there with the winds. They can really toughen you up in a hurry. I certainly don't agree with the No drop rides and then dropping people.

Man, I wasn't even around to defend myself....where is the Twin when I need her?

My 6 year old nephew went around calling me "tiny pants" all day on Sunday.  I can't catch a break.

Sorry for not having checked in since my Tri on Sun.  Flew out Sun night for work and have been buried ever since.

The tri went well - 28 of 78 in my AG, and 283 of 1141 overall.  Very hot - water temp was 81 and outside air temp was 89 at race time.

The only frustrating part was when my personal trainer started the race in the wave behind me, passed me at the end of the swim and his name was announced crossing the finish line just as I was passing the same point in the running course going the other direction with two miles remaining.

Love the pics circulated this morning.

Guess it was better he was 2 miles ahead of you vs. behind you.  Otherwise, what value could he be to you as a personal trainer? Sealed
