Champion ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Hey Dineen -- where's my cue sheet? ![]() George--Jeff's suggestion on calorie intake looking at the Infinit website is a good one. Kim Mueller wrote an article on how many calories you should ingest on the ride based on effort. Similar one for running. I have used them both and tweaked based on what my body can handle. In general terms since you get fuzzy fast, you cannot replenish more than 10-30% of what you burn and still stay GI happy. For me, I am closer to the 10% when SBRing and 30% when I am just B'ing.... Later kids.... |

Pro ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Mett - 2010-06-25 9:45 AM I was thinking about getting the accelerade that has the carbs, proteins etc. as a form to rehydrate. I have two bottles on my bike and wanted to get some thoughts on it. Using fitnessone.com it is fairly cheap for a 60 serving container of it. I am working on my water bottle grasping balance technique. I envy the guys who can ride w/ no hands, I def cannot do that. DO NOT ATTEMPT THIS ON A TRI BIKE... It won't happen. Road bike yes! Tri Bike... NO CHANCE! |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Wow - took a day of "working" from home to catch up to you guys. Congrats on the registration John - it would be right about now I'd be having the "WTF did I just do" and "I wish life had a CTRL-Z function" - but that's me, you're going to kick some a$$. I thought of you when in Portland last weekend. There's a store - called "John's Marketplace" no less - a couple of blocks from my SIL's that has about 700 beers to choose from. I went there every day, lets just say that it definitely affected my Wii golf skills. Good luck to our IMers and other racers this weekend..... how exciting. Nothing too exciting to report on the Cadmus front - I've been supplementing my riding with pulling the kiddos around town in the bike trailer on my hardtail MTB - they love it. I am working on LV - the wife is almost there.... almost. Keep your fingers crossed. |

You did the right thing seeking shelter. What's a few minutes wait as opposed to "times up"! I have read lightning can travel 10 miles. Linda |

We rarely get lightening so I'll refrain from comment. I'm pretty sure my weather god, Cliff Mass, has covered what to do (cliffmass.blogspot.com if you wanna go and search it out!). LOVED meeting Linda and Jeff this morning!! Very nice peeps, great vibe, awesome. Hope to see them again before the race but it's like a little city so you don't exactly run into folks. I did run into a teammate today, so that was fun. Checked in, tried to do the expo, manned a meltown/blood sugar crash by Thing 1, got him fed, gave him a huge "this is my weekend to be selfish so help me out here -- and how many of your friends will EVER go see their mom do an Ironman, huh? please try to soak in the experience" pep talk, and then did the expo successfully (and kids/hubs made signs for me -- so cute!!). Now I'm just fretting about the forecast... which is HOT (by my standards), in the 80's on race day. Soooo, REAL QUESTION!! I'm trying to research and make decisions on sodium intake on race day. I don't want to go overboard but I don't want to end up in a danger situation. Birdy suggested picking up some Thermolytes, which I didn't find at the expo but I'm sure I can find at a bike shop tomorrow. I use Infinit, but not with a high electrolyte concentration as I'm not a huge sweater. I use Nuun, so I figure I'll add some of that to my Infinit and in my water -- easy to drop in. I brought my margarita shot bloks which are higher in sodium. I have no idea about my sweat rate or anything else. Heat is not something I have been able to train for this year AT ALL... so it is what it is. The temps will hit their highs about half-way into my run... at least w/o being on a bike it's easier to take in things at the aid stations. And here I made sure to bring along arm warmers and a rain jacket just in case... Ha ha!!! Dave (hubs) is IN LOVE with Idaho. At least this part of it. Really cute -- he just thinks it's gorgeous, perfect weather, good vibe, etc. I told him tomorrow I'd drive him up around Hayden Lake and the area of the former white supremacist compound. Still pretty, of course...! Loving every minute of being here!! Off for a dinner with my local peeps, then athlete's meeting! Oh, and WAY TO GO FATTY!!! Congratulations!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |

So cool that you met Linda and her hubs! Dave and the kids are already so proud of you on the course with all of those other super cool athletes, their wow factor is going to skyrocket!!! Okay, for your question, i asked my coach the same thing because of the heat in Sacramento at my Oly and I do have endurolytes. He said for someone my size, no more than one per hour if it is hot out. I ended up doing just one in T2 because it was getting hot, but in retrospect, maybe I should have taken one in T1 also. It was about 1:10 on the bike and I had some white crusting on my skin when I got to T2. And I was feeling a bit dehydrated. I know you are smart and are probably hydrating well these past few days...so that should be no problem. Do you have a short bike or run to do tomorrow? Maybe you can experiment with one before you do a workout just to make sure it doesn't make you feel icky. I hope some of the experienced folks can chime in here. I think because you and I train in pretty cold weather it is harder to adapt on the fly to hot weather. Maybe you shouldn't listen to me at all, though!!! |
