thanks guys   i'm hoping that the program i have will be perfect.  ease me back into things but also getting me ready.

i tried running last week and a 5 minute walk/5 minute jog worked well.  if i have to walk/run the tri so be it, but i'm hoping to be back full bore by then!

good luck with the race emily!  sorry i've been out of the loop, what distance is it?

I think a run/walk is a great way to start for anyone after a break.  I still almost always stop and walk when I'm out

It's my half ironman...

Yep, I am enjoying a break from the grueling workouts.  Although it's good timing because of having to pack for the race and the long weekend.  I can't wait until it's finally over!

I am getting home for the week-end before heading back out.

Did Physical Theropy some in the hotel, brought hand weight and band so I could work my shoulders.

Not sure how I will do in my Tri on August 1.  Luckly it is a very short one, but ocean swim with beach run out to T1.

Good luck everyone.

Hey gang!  Hope everyone had a great weekend.

Emily - looking forward to the race report!  Congrats on your race!

My weekend didn't exactly go as planned (seems to be happening a lot on weekendsUndecided).  I went out for an 8 mile run on Saturday morning - trying to beat the heat - but only ended up with a little under 6.  I think it was partly the weather and partly due to the fact that I haven't run more than 5 miles at one time in over 3 weeks.  Eight was probably a little too ambitious.  I'll just have to adjust the schedule and move on.  I didn't get my bike ride or swim in Sunday (the swim was an extra day but I wanted to get it in).  Woke up to dark clouds and a severe T-storm warning.  I planned to get to the gym after the storm passed, but got caught up in household stuff and never made it there.  So I probably won't end up doing the sprint in August that I was considering.  The training - especially on the bike - just isn't where it needs to be.  So my tri season is probably over alreadyFrown.  I'm a little disappointed.  I had hoped to do at least 2 sprints and my first Oly this year and I ended up only doing 1 sprint.  Nobody's fault but mine though.  Hopefully next year I can stick to my training program better.  I know hiring a coach would help but it's just not in the budget right now.  Guess I'll have to get better at self-motivation!

just catching up on a little reading

emily - i must say i'm jealous of your bike commute.  although nothing is more exhilirating (to a planning geek like me) than working a plan.  sounds like you've got a good one figured out!!

i've got your race report opened and will read just as soon as i post this comment

janet - i wish i would have seen your post about your visit to the smoky mtns.  hopefully you enjoyed yourself - i live here and could have made some suggestions.

dee - you're the one who struggles with anemia too right?  just be careful if you're battling energy issues.  my hematologist said that too much calorie restriction paired with heavy training could have caused my problems.  if you already have issues you don't want to make them worse!

hope everyone is doing well.  i'm altering my tri plan a little but i seem to be doing well getting back at it.

Janet - call me crazy, but I think you could still do the sprint in August.  There were be people there who've trained anywhere from 0-15 hours a week for it.  If you think you can finish it, I'd recommending considering it just for the experience.

Brooke - have you been feeling consistently better?

Dee - I see you had a good bike ride recently?  Been back out?

Steve - how's the PT, etc?

I am a woman without a plan, currently.  I have several races up ahead, but have ended my term with the coach so now I need to get myself going.  But I decided to take this week off and I'm enjoying it.  Was actually going to do a yoga class after work, but then remember happy hour plans with friends.   Oh well!

emily - enjoy happy hour!!   you've definitely earned some time off!!

janet - i agree with Emily.  i'd try for it any way.  even if you can't get all of your training it.  you might not get a pr but you should try for the race!!

i've been feeling better pretty consistantly.  i've found that combo workouts are too much right now.  haven't built back up to that yet.  added a multi vitamin to my daily routine.  i've been doing 30 minute walk runs doing half and half.  bike rides feel good. haven't gotten back in the pool yet but i'm going this afternoon.

Emily - enjoy your week off!  You earned it!

Brooke - glad you've been able to get back to training.

I'd still like to do the sprint in August and still have it in the back of my mind, just don't know if I could work it out.  $ is another issue, besides the lack of training.  It's fairly cheap (only about $40 I think), but I'm not sure I could do both the sprint and the half marathon that I was planning in October.  Things are a bit tight right now with DS headed back to college and DD needing some school clothes.  Registration hasn't closed yet so I still have time to decide what I can do.

The weather here has really been HOT lately!  Pretty normal for us this time of year, but still hard to deal with at times.  There's a front coming through tonight though so I'm hoping the morning will bring a little cooler air for my 7 mile run.

Ahhh.. for some reason I thought you'd already signed up, Janet.  Then I guess I would probably skip it too.   You can spend the time working on that half marathon and then get ready for next tri season!

PT not going great since I am doing it at home, due to travel schedule.  I am home for the week, so 3 sessions and I am scheduled to do my next Tri on Sunday Morning.  Wife thinks I should skip since i have not worked out at all since last tri.  I am going to go for it and just enjoy the experience again.

Hi Everyone,

I am going to retire this group, unless anyone objects.  The goal was to keep in touch until everyone got "rolling" with the tri season and I think we've gone well beyond that.  I will be keeping an individual eye on some of you, though...

It's been a pleasure getting to know you all!  Take care!

Emily

Thanks for the input everyone.  I am being more consistent with my training and have picked a couple of tris in September to think about.  I will have to check some schedule conflicts before signing up for one.  Good luck to you all.

Just wanted to let you know.  I did my first stab at OWS practice today with a couple of friends in a local lake.  No wetsuit, but temp was okay once I was swimming.  It's definitely trickier (and slower!) trying to sight and fighting current and some chop.

Overall, though, I am quite pleased with my first swim not in a pool.  Smile

That's great, Dee!  Swimming OWS is hard, doing it without a wet suit for the first time is downright impressive.

Just wanted to give a health update to the group, and this was the easiest way I knew.

I have partial tears in multple muscles in my left shoulder.  there is also an abnormality at the rotator cuff.

So next step is orthopedic surgeon.

Yikes!  Sorry that it requires surgery but at least you have a way forward now.  Hang in there.
