Sorry if I've been quiet lately.  I have family issues to deal with.   Won't go into the details, but one of my nieces is now living with me and I will be paying for her college education.   This might cut a bit into my mad money and effect the number of races I do but the trade off is a no brainer for me.  Will still continue to train.

StaceyK - 2013-02-09 8:54 AMHi Manatees I have a problem, not a big one but I need some help. When I ride for more than about 45 minutes the balls of my feet feel like they are on fire and the three smallest toes on each foot go numb. It doesn't seem to matter if i wear socks or not. Any ideas?
Stacey, the first few things that come to mind are shoe fit, shoe quality, and shoe placement. Are the shoes you are using tight or loose? Do the shoes breath well or does air circulate through them? Have you tried moving your cleats forward or back, right or left? How long/old are the shoes?

Sounds like you may have " hot foot". Check out this article that explains what it is and tips to fix it.http://vbc-usa.com/bicycling_hot_foot

Thanks for the link Ann-Marie, that is how it feels. Tonight it was so bad I had to cut my ride short by 45 minutes.

Chris - I had thought that my shoes might be the problem, they are about 12 months old but have only done maybe 500km. They are shimano and not well ventilated at all. The fit seems ok but they may actually be a size too small. So dumb noob that I am I didnt even know you could change the position of the cleats. I might give that a go as the link from Ann-Marie suggested it too.

Pulled a "good" one last night. Caught my big toenail on my son's bike tire tread. Ripped it half back...blood and stomach turning pain. It's not pretty today All I could think was I'm so glad I didn't register for the reverse that was this morning! Had site open on Thursday night, then checked weather. ..freezing and windy this morning. Ick. Didn't forecast my toe injury, though. Lol

I am having technical difficulties with my log.  It won't let me post workouts or words.  I think I got the blog part fixed.

I started training with a friend this past week.  We have been accountable to each other and this morning we ran/walked a Paczki 5k (800 calorie lard-fried filled donut that is only made in Pole-town the few days before Lent begins).   Paczki and beer at the end.  Total blast!!!  Great craft beer!!

The guy in the middle is Doug Kurtis.  He is a local running legend,  Mr. Sub 2:20, as he holds the world record for most marathons sub 2:20 (76).

I would so love a Paczki, can I bribe you to send me one? I have not had one since I left Michigan in 1995. I miss those wonderful pastries.

I survived. It was a mess. I slipped once, very gently just slid right off my feet and into the soft mud on my left side. No problem there. The trail was so bad that on two of the worst hills, there were ropes for us to pull ourselves up. I predict that my upper body and palms will be the most sore tomorrow. My 14:30 per mile pace is the slowest I have ever run. It was just brutal.(I don't think, well I know, I wasn't the very back of the pack. I passed a bunch of people. I learned a lot. I am beat.

Survival is the key word here.  Aside from your thankfully sliding fall, you didn't hurt yourself which sounds like it would've been easy to do in those muddy, wet conditions.  Hoping your hands and upper body (and the rest of your body) aren't too sore tomorrow.  Be proud of finishing and learning a lot!!  You are one tough mama!!

Sounds like a great time.  I love trail running.  Pace is so unimportant on trail running.  You survived the conditions!!  Way to go!!  Pamper your beat up body today, you earned it!!

bcraht - 2013-02-08 2:32 AM I made a possibly interesting discover tonight on my swim.  My shoulders sometimes bother me when I swim, my left more than my right.  At one point during my swim tonight, it was bothering me.  I generally just swim through, it doesn't ever worsen and doesn't bother me at other times.  Anyway, on my swim tonight, it occurred to me that I was crossing over on my left.  Focused on keeping my left arm 'out' and the soreness disappeared.  I'll have to keep that in mind.

Way to go Kirsten!!!! Breakthroughs are so cool!!!!

Beautiful work!

Breakthroughs can't happen if you're not there and you've really been showing up and doin' it wet

Oh, Manatees. I just got the news that a good friend of mine passed away from complications of malaria He was one of the people who really helped and stood by me when I was having such a hard time when I first moved back to Indonesia.

He worked for the UN and everything he did and everything he was, was about helping other people. He really did give his whole life for others and worked in places nobody would go. He contracted malaria in Liberia, was med-evac'ed to New York and died there.

I am in utter shock. Allen was so young--relatively--he and I are about the same age. So full of life and passion. A real piglet. Great hugs. I just had dinner with him a few months ago.

ETA ... I don't know if I told him I loved him last time. I don't remember. I know he knew I did, so that's what counts, I just ... I'm really confused. And I know it's never too late--at least in my belief system--I just want to remember to hug my loved ones extra tight EVERY day and make sure they know they are loved.

So sorry to hear this Yanti

Man, I always get so far behind on the weekends. Looks like everyone is doing good. Did Felicia race yet?

Well it's been a full 3 weeks since my last successful run and I'm really getting close to a fine line between going out too early and not getting out there soon enough for Galveston. I'm feeling overall pretty good but still a little tender to the touch at the knee. I've decided that I am going to go out for a easy easy bike ride today to see how I feel.

Depending on how it goes I will make a decision on weather to go for a short brick run or just wait another few days before I try to run. I don't think I can put running off too much longer and still compete in Galveston.

Anyway just my thoughts.

CONGRATULATIONS FELICIA!

Trail pace isn't really comparable to dryflatroad run pace ... particularly when rope climbing is involved. You were plenty fast, especially coming off illness!

See how the cycle goes. You've probably also lost a lot less on the running than you think. It may be a case of "complete" rather than "compete" ... is Galveston one of the 70.3's where you can get any money back if you pull out?

Nice work, Felicia!  As others have said, you can't compare trail running pace with normal running pace.  Besides "I learned a lot" is way more important than pace!

Hey Podmates - Sorry for the silence.

Yanti - so sorry for your loss.  That really does suck.  Your friend sounds like an incredible person and will surely be missed by many.

To all the injured podmates - I hope you all get well soon.

To those that wrote wondering where the F I've been... I'm back (sort of).

Jonathon - I totally bailed on the streak after day 1.  Sorry buddy - your kind of on your own for a bit.

I am not injured, nor did I intentionally decide to take time off.  Life got crazy busy all of a sudden.  In a nut shell - I hate my job, so I've been looking for another.  I am juggling job searching, interviewing for new jobs, doing my current job etc.  Then - my brothers car breaks down...and he had no way to get to work (he lives with me).  I gave him my car, and then was off to hunt for a new car myself... I drive a 95, GAS GUZZLING, Land Rover and have been thinking about a new car anyways.

I end up going to a VW dealership where I meet the hottest woman I've seen in a long time. We hit it off and after a test drive that day we went out that night.  That went VERY, VERY WELL (wink, wink).  The car buying thing took me about 4 days because I was determined to look at the 4 cars I decided on and not buy the first one I liked from a really hot saleswoman.

Jump ahead 4 days and now I'm dating a really hot woman who likes to party.  I got sucked in a little bit (it's been a while since I've partied) and have been being bad for a few days, but I'm loving it!

So - I'm still focused on running, but my unintentional break from the crazy couple of weeks have now turned into a conscious decision to scale it back a bit.  I am enjoying my rest and will be back to full blown training soon.  Life is Good!

I will try to stay updated with all my podmates - I love reading about what's going on.  If anyone needs help with the swimming - please email me... I don't want to accidentally miss a post.

Well  va va voom to you!  I was thinking about you this morning wondering what the F had happened to you and figured you'd been having a GOOD time!  Lucky you!  That's awesome!

And you get a car too....

Enjoy the ride wink wink....

We will live vicariously through you so keep us informed!  There is no such thing as too much information...Tongue out

This made me laugh... I love innuendos.

Also - be careful what you ask for with me.. I'm referring to the "no such thing as too much information" comment.   I have a filter, I just don't use it very often.

Bring it!!!

I've got this really hot (possibly slightly crazy) young lady in my bed this morning asking me to have morning sex.

She got a D.U.I. last night and I picked her up from jail.  I would not have sex with her last night. (I do have morals).

Now she's awake and wants to have sex, but I don't want a stalker.  It's been a very long time.. Not sure what to do.

Damn head - get it straight... ooops, maybe a bad choice of words.

******************************************************

On another note - I'm putting my training plan together today, and I'm going to get back at it.  I have enjoyed my hiatus, but I really need the structure of a plan.

LMAO

Sounds like my life from about 1995-2003.

I woulda left her azz in jail, but that's me. However, the crazy ones are the best in bed, err, so I hear.

Make her breakfast and give it to her straight (your words, nothing else!) You might wind up saving her life and others'.

And thanks so much to everybody for your kind words and inspires ... I wound up sleeping almost straight from Friday late afternoon to Sunday late afternoon. I got up a few times to drink, pee, let the dog out, eat peanut butter cookies, feed the dog peanut butter cookies.

I do feel much better now, body and soul.
