Subject: RE: Power?
I use a 310 and a LYC right now.  Kinda a goofy setup the way I have things so far because my 310 is causing some recording issues from the hub.

LYC > Power Agent
310 > Auto import to Training Center and then I import to SportTracks and here.

I think the initial list looks good.  I think there is benefit from a smaller set of data on BT as opposed to what WKO+ does.  There is a reason it costs, but you could get a good amount of data to help track, watts/kg over the course of the year or as others have said your IFF or TSS would be awesome to factor into your training schedule etc.

Cant wait!

Ron - 2010-02-25 9:24 AM How many of you use the Garmin as your head unit to collect the power data?  Obviously since we are already collecting Garmin data a direct upload to include power data would make it that much easier via the Garmin than doing new code for each power device.  Then it all comes down to just processing the data on our end.

So who and who doesn't use a Garmin to collect the power data?  Tell us your setup.

I use Cinqo/Edge 500. I can agree also with others that it would be ok being able to upload power files here, but would be of very limited value without NP, TSS..........That is ok. I am a RaceDay user and will remain. BT logs are some of the best around but are incomplete as they lack power data. If you check into and read Dr. Skiba's short books, you can start to appreciate the concept of power across all 3 sports.

What I would like:

Average power
Normalized power
Work
TSS
IF

The problem is my data comes from a PT head unit and only AP and work come from that.  The rest is calculated with WKO+ (and requires a number for FTP).  So, unless you can use the algorithms for those and allow us to input FTP somewhere (like with HR zones which is the best spot probably as FTP is analogous to LT and training zones are set from it) then it would have very limited utility for me.  Best would be a simple export of the numbers from WKO+ to BT, but I doubt they will allow that to occur.

I make a note of all those items in my log currently, so it would be somewhat helpful from a data entry point.  It would be more useful if there were some graphs I could use from the data.  Not looking for a full replacement of WKO+, but the ability to track those items over time (especially weekly TSS) would make life easier in managing my training from anywhere (need to be sitting at my home computer for WKO+).

Normalized Power does not use FTP in the calculation.

No, that one is only a data/algorithm issue.  But I am unsure whether there is free use of the algorithm for NP.  Maybe there is and it's not a big deal to calculate.  But you will at least need to allow uploading of a substantial amount of data in order to do so unless it is pulled from the WKO+ software.

Does anyone record kilojoules?

I use WKO+ for in-depth analysis, but I find kJ's a useful measure to keep track of gross training volume. I would probably record that here if if were an available feature.  If it were graphed, like total training hours are, it would be even cooler.

hockeyhands - 2010-02-24 12:38 PMI'm new to power, got mine about two months ago so I don't really have too many demands.  The ones you listed in your list looked pretty good to me Ron.  It would be really great if you did make it possible to log power data.
That about sums me up too.

YUP!!!  I think a few of us mentioned logging "Work" which is kJ in WKO---I definitely found it useful last fall when I began training with power and was training for B2B full---great way to help work on nutrition for longer races (HIM/IM)---I like knowing what power levels use how many kJ so that I can appropriately plan nutrition---I also kinda do what you are talking about in WKO with looking at total kJ for week/month to see training levels!!  So many power metrics overlap...

PT for me.

Check out Golden Cheetah  it's a pretty sweet and free alternative to WKO.  Last night I was able to download both my PT and CT files to compare the ride into it.

It's also open source so I have been messing around with ways to have it spit out the data I want so I can copy and paste into BT in a format I like, until they get the full import working.  Still a work in progress at this point though.

Yes! We  need power data on BT! Screw that WKO crap.  I use PowerAgent now for my PT, but if I could log everything here, that would be much easier for me because I am already lazy about logging anyway!  Pretty much what the others have mentioned already as data would work for me.

It's here.  Power logging and also some Power Graphs.  It's a start.

Thank you to marmadaddy for the programming.
