The fact that she is seeking help and seeing a psychologist.

Good.  I think anyone that leaves their spouse and child to be a hooker should seek help and see a psychologist.

she didn't even bother to leave her spouse and child (according to the article she was hooking in LA the same weekend she ran the disneyland marathon with her husband, for example)

seeing a psychologist does not mean one suffers severe depression, either.

This.

We don't need to find excuses for everyone's poor decisions.  Sometimes they are just that.

I'd like to point out the distinct difference between hooking it on your corner, and making $100s to $1000s per, um, session in a high class environment.

Sorry, I meant leave more like heading off for a long weekend or, in the case of the LA trip, a few hours.

And why is anyone feeling sorry for her?  Perhaps she enjoys doing that on the side, to each its own.  It is between her and her family.  Noone knows if the husband was ok with that and she is just protecting him now.

I didn't say that.  I was going by the article....

"She said her reasons for working as a call girl are related to depression and she’s seeking the help of a psychologist."

Agreed. I wonder if the therapist claims are to save her public image, or if they are legit concerns.

There is absolutely a difference between a $20/session hooker and a $5000/hr hooker.  Supposedly.

Cheating is one thing, but I don't have a fundamental issue with prostitution -

and the difference is she's not some rock bottom waste. She had (and has) the means to deal with her situation in different ways - not to mention other marketable skills - and she chose for others to pay money to get with her.

It could be the truth. Or it could be an excuse. Given that her therapist should not (and hopefully will not) be speaking out on this, we'll never know. I do know that I see plenty of people who do what they want to do, and then try to excuse their behaviors that they would have done anyway on whatever I am seeing them for. Granted, most of the people I see are adolescents and children, but adults with severe personality problems do the same thing. Which I suppose means, in a roundabout way, that it IS their psychiatric problems affecting their behaviors. Just not the problems they are blaming.

Well, I'm sorry what this scandal will do to her and her family. And she WAS-- at least by appearances-- living the ideal suburban lifestyle in Madison, so it is apparently something she wanted.

That's largely gone now. She and her family will forever be gawked at and a punchline.

For that, yes, I pity her.

But as she herself said, she's an adult and takes responsibility for her own decisions. Now she and her family have to live with the consequences.

When I talked with her a few summers ago, she had the greatest personality, but "promoted" herself in such a way that was like "look at me and all that I did and now am doing". I wasn't sure to be proud or concerned of her needing attention all the time, or if it is a different, less subtle type of arrogance? I just feel sad for the daughter more than anything knowing that someone is going to approach her and be stupid/mean. Sad.

What a bizarre story.  Hard to reconcile stuff like this with the tragic events of the last week.  It's been a memorable Holiday season for all the wrong reasons.

So what if she came out and said she enjoyed doing it and wasn't sorry? Would people feel differently? Would it even be a story?

Frankly, if people want to pay each other for sex they should be allowed to. Set up some licensing, some oversight, and tax it. No more fiscal cliff!

Would it be a huge story if a three-time Olympian and the most decorated female athlete in NCAA Track and Field history came out said she loved her new career as a high-priced Vegas escort?

Yes, absolutely. All salacious details and arm-chair psycho analysis aside, it would still be a huge story.

It sounds like she DID enjoy it:

Favor Hamilton described the escort business as “exciting,” an illicit midlife diversion from her routine existence

Well...I've heard of fast women, but she takes the cake!

Seriously, big whoop.  Her body, her choice.  It may be a problem between her and her family, but I've got no beef with her.  One thing's certain, if she managed the high income well, her child will be well taken care of.  Funding a college education shouldn't be a problem for them.
