I am going to my fitter armed with TJ's take on the setup. you do understand that aside from helping move stuff around, unless your fitter has a wind tunnel he cant tell you if its going ot be faster.....I am not looking for the aerodynamically fastest position as much as I am looking for a sustainable aero position. I am certain that a comfortable, even if it is different, aero position is ALMOST ALWAYS better than on the handlebars. Also, his position just makes more sense than hands down low for the average conditioned triathlete. It doesn't change the size of your profile, and your aerobars/forearms break the wind for your head/body.  (Like the nose of a jet). Low hands would create one air disturbance at the hands, and another at your chest/head).  If you knew NOTHING about triathlon, which picture looks more aerodynamic? |

Champion 7136 Knoxville area | Subject: RE: I am getting a wild set up for my aero bars Ok, similar scenario (different but not totally off topic) Is it better (in this scenario...interchangable with "more aero") to have your water bottle mounted ABOVE the aerobars (the new wave) or have something like a Profile design "aerodrink" that hangs "under" the aerobars. Same with your forearms. 1.)Pointed up ( a la TJ) they form a "shield" of sorts to the air. 2.)Pointed forward (most people) they form a "spear" of sorts. Now the next question is... is having that "hole" opened up dirtying the air (making you slower) or is "shielding" with your forearms actually making your surface area bigger (making you slower) I don't know, but that comes to mind |

Make sure the fitter takes that into account! Mike - bottom line - you are spot on...get fit for whatever position you can sustain for the highest percentage time for your usual/next race. Just make sure you can maintain upright and steer a little bit on the damn bike too! |

Any way you look at it, if it is comfortable, it's not bad... if it feels similar... without a wind tunnel it's hard to say if it's going to hurt or help. Three things here Mike you need to look at when you are looking at aerodynamics and your water theory.
I still contend that a more "upright" position might be better for you vs. being so aggresive over the bars. The % gains benfit from a pure comfortability stand point would be as good or great than some freaky aero position... |

I am pretty sure some of the fastest TT tested and Hour TT times have comes from the *superman* position, stretcehd out. |
