Foods you wouldn't think go together ... (Page 2)

Fries and mayo is a big thing here in Quebec.

Oh I could so go for a proper Montreal smoked meat sandwich...

If Yanti can go Asian then I can go Australian.  In Australia, we love our cheese and Vegemite sandwiches.  I am also partial to jam and cheese on toast.

In Quebec, and the rest of Europe, too. Heh.

Okay, I go easy for now. Here in Indonesia, we add avocado to pretty much any dessert, and also make avocado into desserts, like avocado milkshakes drizzled with chocolate sauce. YUM!

Well, apparently I'm not as cultured as I thought  :P

What about fries, gravy and cheese curds?   

The proper way to eat apple pie is with a slice of good cheddar cheese.  Everyone who has ever lived in New England knows this, and most everyone else finds the idea horrifying.  Until they try it.

A Monte Cristo is a enigma in cuisine...  A battered, deep fried, meat sandwitch, dusted with powdered sugar and eaten with raspberry jam...

But DAYUM!  SOOOOOO  good.

Now THAT is not something I had thought of ... but it does sound good.

There's nothing wrong with poutine!

It is pretty much the national dish of Quebec.  We have whole restaurants dedicated to them.  And Jen, you are right, it is delicious, and there is nothing wrong with poutine, other than how fast you can feel your arteries jamming closed.  But that's half the fun!

That's what poutine is? Do you dip the fries, or mix it all in together with gravy and curds?

Do. Not. Sully. The. Hallowed. POP. TARTS.

It is one gorgeous, gorgeous dish, no dipping.  Fries, topped with curds, smothered in gravy.  If you make friends with the person making it for you, they will layer it, and put a layer of cheese and gravy in the middle, then do a second layer of fries, cheese and gravy.  Just heaven.

It's always BYOFork, though.  And, as with everything, he who eats fastest gets most. 

Touchy. Touchy.

Not if you deep fry it...yum...

The only place I found this dish:  (Springfield, ILL - and eveyone has their own version).

Two pieced of toast, topped with two hamburger patties, covered with fries, smothered with liquid cheese.  Called a "Horseshoe".  Great drunk food.

SPAM musubi!!!

Oh, and in desserts here, we like floaty jelly things ... with seaweed. Sometimes it looks like you've got tentacles crawling out of your dessert. Yum!

I was just told that peanut butter on a hamburger is yummy.  may try it tonight!

It really is.  There was a diner where I went to university that called it a Wally Burger, and every night, after the bar (and the morning after), it was packed.  I believe it was pretty much an all dressed (onion, tomato, lettuce, pickle, mustard) bacon cheese burger.  SO GOOD. 

Good grief, wasn't that in the portion of Twilight Zone (the Movie) where the kid got everything he wanted?
