He was an Engineman stationed on a Tugboat in Bermuda ~92-94. He was my best friend growing up. |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Does it count as "visiting" counties if you stage in one country as part of preparations to carry out the overthrow and replacement of another country's ruling political regime (and visit a TGIFridays while you're there), and then move to the other country as part of doing so? If yes, I have visited 12 countries. If not, 10 (or +1 to both of those if you count Texas). |

I left the Annex side of things a bit earlier than that as I got into a little trouble and was shipped over to the NAS side ![]() I know that tug quite well - YTB-801.... I was a Bos'n Mate 3rd in the boathouse there, 100 yards from where she moored. I was a small boat driving fool there ![]() The name Martin rings a bell, though, for sure.... wait... where are y'all from?? Not Iowa, is it? I used to party with some crazy Iowegian whose name I can't remember, lol (if it's him, he'll understand... we drank a LOOOOOT!! errr... I did, anyway) Edited by cgregg 2012-09-17 5:11 PM |

It was Troy and Tammy Martin (wife) with poofy blonde hair that both lived down there. When you look up crazy in the dictionary it's a picture of Troy. His middle and last name was Martin so most people called him "Martin Martin" |

Just madness, I think if you would have gotten away from all the sailors on leave things probably would have been better. Anyways, my list is always expanding but here goes nothing. Just madness, I think if you would have gotten away from all the sailors on leave things probably would have been better. lol, well often times, ok most of the time, we didn't get to go to the "nice" parts of these countries. I can't remember what country it was, but we were in a cab riding through some very depressed crime ridden neighborhood and there was this 20 foot tall wall with razor wire across the top that seemed to extend forever. I asked the driver what was in there and he said the resorts were over there. Me and my buddy looked at each other and said, crap we're on the wrong side of the fence. Never did get over to the other side and I recall several crew members got stabbed that night trying to get back to the ship. So, often times we were dodging various gang wars and criminal activity trying to stay alive in the parts of town we got dropped off in. Me and a hundred or so of my shipmates were even held up at the embassy in Thailand with about 1000 locals with knives and you know what trying to kill us. Had to have a military escort come rescue us. The riots resulted in one of my buddies beating the crap out of a local kickboxing hero in some back street ring the night before. The locals didn't like that very much. |

Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Travelled around a lot as a kid with my folks, visiting some really "interesting countries", and being a research geologist I now get to work and travel to a fair few countries as well, including:
I really enjoyed living/travelling in most of them, learning different cultures, history, languages, alcoholic beverages (excluding Saudi Arabia), outlooks on life, even though some of them were difficult to live in and others were embroiled in revolutions and civil wars. I've certainly not had a dull life, and I'm not finished travelling yet....! Hopefully Antarctica one day, even though I hate the cold? |

Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I'm certainly not as well-traveled as I intend to be, but here goes: US Sweden Norway Denmark Germany Austria Slovenia Mexico Puerto Rico (arguably part of U.S., but I consider it its own place) Guadelupe Aruba Cayman Island (can you tell yet that I went on a 7-day cruise once...hope that counts :p) Jamaica Of these, I absolutely fell in love with Slovenia. Beautiful country, beautiful people, beautiful culture. I cannot say I disliked any of them. The "cruise stops" I feel did not give an accurate impression of the country, though, so take those with a grain of salt. Next up, I would love, love, love to go to the UK and Ireland (harboring not-so-secret ambitions to do the Outlaw Triathlon in Nottingham) and to see more of Eastern Europe. I'd dig Australia too but that would be more feasible if I lived on the west coast. Fun question! |

Most of the int'l travel was between ages 20 and 30 when I got around a lot. Lived in Japan, Guatemala, Mexico, Spain and US. A few of the countries were "just passing through" visits. Australia has been on my bucket list since I was 19. Now 50.... Brian |
