Whistle? That's what pace clocks are for. Workouts like that are just good excuses for coaches to go sleep in the office. Back in the day, we uswed to have new year's eve workouts where we would swim the new year in 100s on 1:10. So... 84x100 on 1:10. Fun stuff. Now...you kids...get offa my lawn! What is the worse that could happen, you have to wait three months to try again? What is the rest interval between 100's? I am not getting the 2:00 send off thing. You have to do each 100 in 2:00 or under? Whatever you swim under 2:00 is your rest period. Meaning, you swim in 1:30/100, you get :30 of rest? Yea, the pace clock will be set for 2:00. You swim your 100yrds. If you finish in 1:40, you get a :20 rest interval. If you finish in 1:59, well you catch your breath and go again. Basically there will be 120mins to do the event in. Finish it or not.
Do you have to stop each 100? Can you bank time? Suppose you do 500 without stopping and happen to hit the 500 at the 1:50 mark but want to rest longer than 10 secs? Do you have to go when the 2:00 mark is reached no matter what? Yes. (at least that's what XXX on the X:XX means in general swimming terms) Otherwise, it's not 60 x 100. If you need to rest longer than the interval, you can't do it yet
Is it about doing 60 x 100 or 6000? The way I read it, it's really about 6000 in 2 hours rather than 100s plus rest in 2 min. Just seems easier to me to go long and rest when needed than forced rest every 100. I guess it's not supposed to be easy but forced rest very 100 would drive me crazy over 2 hours. |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Go for it. If you are swimming 1:30s right now you'll be fin with 20s+ rest. The first 10 are like a warm up in a workout this long. Even if you make only 40 with some solid rest you can look at the last 20 as a good workout with minimal rest for a HIM distance training set. You'll have a huge confidence boost after doing it and learn a lot about what you can or should I say "are" willing to tollerate. Everyone's in it together. So have fun with it. I know a lot of crew's do the 100X100 deal on NYE. Our coaches decided one year to mix it up and do a 10,000 IM... Good times. That's right 100 laps of each stroke with no breaks. Ouch... |

I'm sure he's not going to yell and call you out for leaving early, but from what I gather, it'll be a huge step in controlling pace. And I'm sure by halfway, I'm going to be begging for the rest. I just may have to do a trial (I love trials) before the end of the month to see where I stand. |

![]() | ![]() I swim in a meters pool... would I adjust the time accordingly? I think the translation to meters is about 2:10 per 100 rather than 2:00 for yards. I think I can do 25-30 100m on a 2:00 no problem, but it would get pretty tough after that. |

The kicker was that the set was timed too and the coaches pretty much had us racing the entire thing. Lot's of pain. I just remember getting done and sitting on the floor in the locker room with the hot showers on for like 30 minutes. |

Our longest workout was 12,000 mixed, I can't imagine doing 2500 fly. I'd STILL be laying on that floor! John |

Champion![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() 2 min send offs mean you start every two min, if it takes you 1:30 to swim the 100, you have 30 sec of rest on that interval. you start every 2 min, and that 2 min includes the swim and rest. once you cannot hit that interval, you are done. if you make it through you completed it. be warned, this is a BORING workout, but mentally if you do this alone you should be set for anything! |
