Two thumbs up to the male shavers.  IMO, body hair is not hot.

I shaved for a tri once last year and spouse didn't go for it. I'll give her that one as she puts up with my training time, races, tri toys, etc.

My husband splits his time between being a "cyclist" and wearing the spandex outfits on rides with me, and being a "posenger" (poseur messenger) with his biking buddies.  He lives in fear of being caught on a ride with me, in bike shorts, by these friends who go with the unshowered "manpris" (shortened mens pants, or capris) or the cargo shorts.  I can only imagine the ridicule he would face if his legs were shaved smooth.  I'd love it though!

I would certainly notice right way... First clue would be the little bits of tissue he'd have stuck to the cuts.  But honestly, I really think it would be obvious to feel and see.

When I first shave about 3 months ago my wife noticed right away. Her reply was "what did you do and why?" Now she likes it and jokes about how slowly my hair grows back. My legs weren't very hairy to begin with and a leg massage feels so much better now.

I hope this isn't too personal but here it goes (OK I am sure there are others out there who have done something like this as well; go ahead and admit it)....

I have never shared with my wife that I shaved my legs prior to my first Sprint Tri this past June.  I actually like the feeling and continued to shave them and keep them smooth.  Well she has never noticed nor asked about it.  This evening I found a brand new shaver (same one she uses to shave her legs) in my drawer in the bathroom.  So I just figured she knew, but didn't want to bring it up thinking I might get embarassed.  So, thinking she already knew, I brought it up to her that I shaved my legs and inquired if that is why she bought the razor that was in my drawer.  She kind of looked at me strange like and said "really, you do".  "Do all triathletes do that?"  Anyway the cats out of the bag and she said dang your legs are smoother than mine.  This is one TRIGUY who may never go back.

How could your wife not know you shaved your legs?  Do you wear pants 24/7 or what?

I'm fairly hairy and decided to shave completely last year for an open water swim w/o a wetsuit (i.e. naked). I found I felt so much better training for tris without my"blanket" on that I stayed that way all season. I shaved down again just a couple of weeks ago when it started to get hot. My wife thinks it is strange and my 9 year old finds it spooky. I do it any way.

newleaf - 2009-07-07 5:58 AM You've been shaving your legs for a month, and your wife didn't notice?

this was exactly my thought...

While some guys I know would go from being woolly black to Casper white, and from Chore-Boy to frictionless plane, for some of us, the change in appearance and texture would not be so striking. Pajama routines would also have an impact here, as some blaze hot and some wrap up. It seemed as if not only my wife would notice, but also the people at the gym, my basketball playing buddies, my kids, my summer friends, but apparently it's not front page news when the scraggly, blond-legged guy shaves down.

Don't be so quick to judge! ; )

I"m not particularly furry, but I'm happy to say that my wife noticed within hours.  Details omitted...

I'll bet yours did too, but unlike mine felt less inclined to ask "what the f*ck have you done to your legs?".

My wife didn't like it at first, but that's never stopped me before (goes the same the other way...), and now she says she actually likes it.

My husband shaves his legs.  I gave him a tutorial the first time he did it.  I like his legs shaved especially since they are - in my humble opinion - fantastic looking legs (he has some yummy muscle definition!).

Two thumbs up for shaved legs!

I shave mine (and arms) but I don't have a good reason as to why.

Since I started this thread I guess I'd better chime in now and then.  I mentioned to my wife all the comments especially the ones who can't believe she hadn't noticed my shaved legs.  She just laughed and smiled.   Cool

Oh, by the way...another sucessful shave this evening, especially with that new 5 bladed razor she bought me.  No cuts, no runs, no errors.  Swwwweeeeet and smoooooth!!!

My guess is he must wear pajama pants or something at night.

Me, I shaved in high school for swimming. I started shaving again this year for cycling. For all that I cant grow a respectable beard, my legs are crazy hairy (took like an hour per leg on my first pass). I get crap for it from my buddies, but I like having smooth legs during the summer and racing, especially now that Im starting to get some definition.

I can't believe your husband's friends don't make fun of him for wearing capris.

Shaven legs...always an entertaining discussion (and sometimes, debate).  I shaved in HS for swimming (like a few others who posted earlier).  Then I went to college and hadn't considered shaving my legs until I got into triathlon last year.  I shaved my upper legs at first, due to the shorts.  Since I'm not really furry in my upper legs, my wife didn't really notice it anyway.  But a recent bike accident has me trimming my lower legs now but only during race week.  When your body gets cut up, its easier to deal with when you don't have hair.

However, I've gotten back into swimming (Masters) so if/when I sign up for a meet/race, I might end up with a full leg shave.

A quote from my wife, one evening after...

"You either need to shave more often, or less often."

I use an epilator now.  No worries.

I'm intrigued by epilation, but have some questions -- is there an increased risk of infection, since the hair is being removed root and all?  Also, how long does it take to do, and how long before new hair grows back?

Great picture, AcesFull!

Also, from a Detroiter, I like your quote too.

You get two thumbs up!

KeriKadi - 2009-07-06 11:57 PM  I am trying to wrap my brain around the fact that she hadn't noticed you shaved.  I am constantly checking out my husbands legs and feeling them in bed and I would notice IMMEDIATELY if he shaved.

2x- I would DEFFINITLY notice if my husband shaved his legs, how in the world couldn't you notice that.
