I am in for this race, but I didn't know this thread was here.  Luckily for me, Chaderbox and I can train together.  Any other Simpsonville people want to do slow speed training?

BTW, it's my first HIM as well.

Pam (barqhead) lives just a few houses from me.  But like I said earlier, she swims faster than I run.  So I'm thinking she doesn't need any Zone 0 work.

When I checked Setup Events, it looks like there are still 14 slots left.

I emailed a couple of folks who I thought wanted to do it but haven't registered yet.  Hope everyone gets in who wants in!!!

You are right, there still are some openings, per website "After reaching general entry capacity the B2B Half event has opened 50 Charity Slots."

Holy Cow... I didn't notice those were charity slots at $350!!!

Well, one of my friends is going for the full and the other is still undecided, so I guess that's that.

I'm following a 20 week plan, so today was my first day of race training.  Although I've followed a lot of long training plans for marathons, this one looks like a major challenge.  Looking forward to it, though.  Anyone else starting a 20 week plan today?

I started on Sat...not thrilled that it starts out (and continues upward) at 11-12 hours a week, but the beginner plan doesn't hit the volume I like-need something in the middle.

I used the BT Beginner HIM 20 week plan for my first HIM race earlier this year and it worked out well for me.  If you did marathon training, you will be able to keep up with this plan.  I start my new 20 week plan today as well.  Good luck training this summer!

OK guys. I just crashed on my bike Saturday and I haven't done anything but yell at swimmers from the sidelines since June 3. I'm lovin' the idea of Zone 0!

Shannon - You and I raced together at White Lake (but never met)!  Hopefully we can do a meet and greet at B2B.

I used the Beginner Plan for my first HIM.  I felt it was heavy on the swim, but too light on the bike and run.  I just added extra running and biking according to the volumn I was already accustomed to at the time.  I felt well prepared for White Lake and the distance came fairly easy, only the heat zapped my run pace.   I truly enjoyed the Beginner HIM plan and would certainly recommend it to anyone doing a first.

For B2B, I started the Silver HIM plan a week early since I'll be in Wyoming all of next week.  When I get back, the timing of the plan will fall into place.

Pam - How did your bike crash happen and are you ok?

Hi Maria!  I am doing the SIlver HIM plan too, I am just starting off with taking out the strength training and a run and a bike each week...until week 7 or so, then I will add them back in.  It may take me until after our vacation to fall into sync.

Yeah, Pam, are you okay?

Yes, I'm okay. Thanks for asking. I made a triathlete mistake on a group ride. I took my eyes off the bike in front of me to put my water bottle in its cage and when I looked up, I touched wheels with my friend in front of me. Luckily he stayed upright and the guy behind me did too. I was so happy I didn't take anyone else out. And I was fortunate enough to keep it upright until I hit grass. I got a black eye from where my sunglasses pushed into my face. My shins were hit hard by my pedals when I came unclipped. But I was very lucky that I didn't break any bones and walked away with just a couple of scrapes and bruises. I broke the front brakes and cracked the fork on my bike, but those things can be replaced. And my frame wasn't damaged. So live to ride another day!

No sir you are wrong. You will be great. Last year it was my 1st HIM, 3rd completed tri and the end of my 1st season. It is a good race and I think the perfect HIM for your first. See you in Wilmington.

Hey B2B'ers, I hope all is well.

I was just in Wilmington visiting my mom and I went on the Ghost Walk that they have in downtown Wilmington.  It was really quite neat, and a lot of fun.  90 minutes, and maybe 1.5 miles with minimal stair climbing (<10 steps).  The people that do the tours will do groups, and I was curious if anyone might be interested in checking it out before the race.  I'm thinking that Thursday night would be the best.

You can find info about it here
www.wilmingtonwalkingtours.com

If people are interested I think it would be a lot of fun, and I'd be happy to figure out pricing and doing all the setting up for a group.

I also posted this in the Full thread, so no need to respond twice.
