Master 2014 Ohio | Subject: RE: Are you GAY?? crowny2 - 2010-06-15 3:19 PM briderdt - 2010-06-15 2:16 PM And while we're at it, when did "fag" go from meaning wood for kindling, to a cigarette, to a gay man? Quite a LONG time ago. The way I understand it homosexuals were burned at the stake in the middle ages. A "fag," at that time, was a bundle of sticks used as kindling to start a fire. As more and more homosexuals were burned the word "fag" became known as a derogatory term for homosexuals; as in "throw some more 'fags' on the fire." The transitioning of the term from a slang term for a homosexual to a ciggerette is unknown to me, but I imagine that someone thought a ciggerette looked like a burning fag (the bundle of sticks). I don't care for term in any of it's uses. I like "kindling," "gay" or "lesbian," and "cancer stick." Thus concludes today's semantics lesson with David tri's. Thank you for attending. Oh, also to the OP, I'm not, but you all need a few breeders out here anyway. |

TriRSquared - 2010-06-15 3:46 PM Tri-ingToTurn40 - 2010-06-15 3:21 PM Sexual orientation is pretty far from binary. lol Considering there are only two sexes I'm not sure how it could not be binary. You are 0 and like 1s You are 0 and like 0s You are 1 and like 1s You are 1 and like 0s You are 1 and like 1s & 0s You are 0 and like 1s & 0s I guess technically the last two are trinary (no pun intended) For the record I'm not making any judgments for or against. Just trying to understand what the difference between gay and really, really gay is. The statement (not mine) was that being gay was binary, not that sexual preference was binary; You are a 1 and like 1s. I think I tend to agree. One is either heterosexual, homosexual, bisexual, or asexual. Of course that doesn't account for bestiality or the sexualization of inanimate objects ( I know there is a clinical term but I can't find it just now) Of course there may be variants within each, You are a 1 and like 1s but only 1s who also like other 1s. Or, you are a 1 and like 1s, but only 1s who like 0s. That could get tricky but it's a possibility. There are those who believe there is no such think as bisexuality, only homosexuals who can't commit. I think it's possible for a person to be attracted to both sexes. |

This means I totally get why a woman would be a lesbian, but I don't get straight women OR gay men. Just saying... By far the funniest post in this thread. |

Duh. @Tripolar - "I've realized I'm neither straight, gay, or bi. I'm just a slut." ROFL! That makes me LOL too. FWIW not gay, but not a breeder either. Oddly though, when we're on vacation, it always turns out that we chose the GLBT-friendly B&B. Not sure how we do it. Last time, I dropped DH off at his conference and came back to hang out at the B&B for a bit before shopping, etc. My host walked through, did a double take to see me there and said that "there *might* be a naked black man running through - but don't worry about it". So I stayed another 45 minutes, but no naked. Oh well. |

Thats why a lot of organizations define themselves as LGBTQAI (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer or Questioning, Allies, Intersex). As one poster said earlier, human sexuality is not binary. I mean, they USED to hit on me, but not anymore. I guess I'm getting old. Sigh. |
