I don't get why we would do anything but #1 or #2 on the potty...

Maybe some of you can enlighten me in this thread: why are we sitting on the potty for so long? I've always wondered this. Maybe I am blessed with bowels that evacuate quickly on an as-needed basis, but some of my family members can sit for an hour+, just chilling. I mean, if you don't have to go right then, why are you sitting there with your pants down? Please help me understand. Thanks in advance

You don't have kids do you? I you had kids you would understand a few minutes of privacy is priceless.

And to answer the question:read triathlon magazines

Kids, yup piece and quite for a few minutes.

I'm with Lisa on this. I don't get what takes so long either and I have kids. I have to lock the door if I don't want them to come in and then they just talk to me through the door. Better yet, they like to find whatever bathroom I'm getting ready in and do their business while they keep me company. Lovely.

I get in, get out and flush as I go.

Haha no, but if I do I can guarantee I won't be seeking peace and quiet in the bathroom - grosses me out to just be sitting half naked on the toilet unproductively.

I understand privacy quite well without having given birth

Does it not gross you out to be sitting fully clothed on the toilet unproductively?

Usually pet the cats. They know they have a captive audience and seem to be able to sense if I'm going to sit or stand.

My legs go numb if I sit more than 10-15 minutes.  Can barely stand up.

I usually play whatever current Android game that's got my attention or occasionally read the news headlines via my phone.

Currently it's mostly angry birds star wars, I'm almost 3 stars on all levels, man I must go #2 a lot.

Add to that a dog that barks at me constantly if the door is open.  I really don't know what that's all about!!

Yup in, out, and on my way!

Try this,  Take your pants all the way off and sit on the toilet backwards.  The tank makes a nice little table to really get some work done....

In and out. Quickly. Get it done.

As a side: for those that take a long time (especially if you're having issues)
-Find a stool 8-10" in height and store in the bathroom. When having issues, prop your feet on said stool to elevate the knees. It relaxes the sphincter and BOOM - auto empty!

Seriously. If you need a speed session, it's worth trying. Much faster, more effecient, less work, and after a few times, less trips.

Glad I could be of service.

In that vein, I don't like using handicapped toilets; they are too high off the ground and don't allow for the proper pelvic angle.

I text, check on FB, play a game...I almost always bring my phone to the bathroom, even if its just #1. And being "blessed" with IBS, it isn't always immediate, but I know I need to go...

I dunno why...I just do...I just do do...

My 8yr old has taken to reading on the toilet for long periods. I think he’s figured out that he can sit there for as long as he wants without anyone bothering him, whereas, if he was sitting on the couch reading, someone might tell him to put down the book and feed his kittens or put his toys away or whatever.
