OU blew it on free throws. They were tight over all. NDSU deserved to win. But that officiating was INCREDIBLY inconsistent last night. On both sides. NDSU's Braun did NOT foul on his 4th foul. Horrible call. And equally horrible was the foul that sent the 58% free throw shooting freshman that hadn't played a minute all night to the line to put them ahead. WTF? And even though I've been watching all season, I still don't understand the new hand checking foul calls. Just don't. I have not seen a sufficient explanation and then application on the court. UGH! While I didn't have my Sooners going much farther, I DID NOT expect them to bounce out in the first game. Only good thing is they are a very young team so hopefully they will be even better next year. Rant over. On with the rest of the tournament.
Officiating has been the lone blemish on an otherwise great tournament so far. It has just been incredibly inconsistent. The games have been tight all game and then they will swallow their whistles at the end. I hate that. Call it it tight or call it loose, but just call it consistent.
-In the OSU game, Dayton got 3 free throws and that corner three pointer when the only contact was the shooter bringing his arms down on top of the defender. There was more contact with Craft going the other way but no call.
-New Mexico St's 3 point shooter was fouled on 2 seperate 3 pointers in OT and neither was call. An equally terrible out of bounds call somewhat made up for the 2nd.
-Across the board, you can pummel someone in the paint but if you touch them on the perimeter, it's a foul. I consider this much worse basketball than what we were seeing at the end of last season. Edited by uclamatt2007 2014-03-21 11:45 AM
