Good luck! I predict you're going to have a great day. Thanks man! I felt my preparation was spot on only to have a bad night before race day. Literally at 9pm, I developed bad stomach bloat which included discomfort. Tums helped a bit but I was farting all night and peed every hour. Wth??? Anyway, I didn't to rehydrate with water due to peeing so much so I think I entered the race in a dehydrated state. I didn't wanna overdrink to compensate at breakfast so I was faced with a tough dilemma. I finished outside my predicted time range with 5:19 which I'm still kinda pissed off at. The weather was warmer and more humid than predicted too which could explain why my HR and RPE was higher forcing me to significantly slow down. Anyway, I was happy I was able to pull off a strong finish and not hit the wall. My race report is up if any of you would like to read. |

Veteran 495 Calgary | Subject: RE: Run 1000 miles in 2019! Nice to see so many of you are in the black. I hurt my knee back in February and haven't run since. My knee pain occurred after a stretch of three consecutive days of cross country skiing followed by two running days. By the end of the run on the second day I had a sharp pain on the inside of my knee. It stiffened up and got worse later in the day. For about a month after that the pain was a significant nuisance and I walked with a limp. My family Dr arranged x-rays which ruled out osteoarthritis. The Dr suspected a meniscus tear. He said to let pain be my guide in deciding which activities to engage in. I'm feeling pretty good now. I've stopped limping and for the most part I'm not aware of any knee pain. Occasionally I feel a twinge when my leg is twisted and running/jumping/impacts are still out of the question. My wife and I have recently become interested in climbing (obsessed actually) and are spending a lot of time in the local climbing gyms. Oddly enough climbing doesn't hurt my knee and I was climbing around one week after the injury. Cycling is not a problem, and now that winter has loosened its grip I'm doing a lot of riding. I'm not sure when I'll return to running or whether I'll ever be able to run as much as I have over the last couple of years. Fortunately there are other sports that I'm passionate about and I know I'll find ways to stay active. Thanks Don |

I have had 3 mediocre training weeks due to busy-ness and a cold. Had a tough run today, couldn't hit my target paces, but at least I am back at it. |

Been using a separate google sheet but just added my total to the thread's gsheet as of today. Been with BT since 2008 and recall reading alltom1's B2B race report for intel back in 2012. Took a few years off and got slow and no longer racing, but good to be back on BT forums and what is left of the community. |

The training benefits will come short if you dehydrate yourselves. It was 100°F for during my run yesterday so I opted for a long treadmill run, hehehe. I hope the athletes who were injured the past couple months are healing up. I myself had some prickly sensations in my right heel random times the during a few runs the week before last and took some time off. I paid really close attention to self therapy and problem seems to have gone away. |

I hurt my knee earlier in the year and had already given up on achieving any significant running mileage. Then... I crashed my mountain bike on June 28 - broke my right collarbone and eight ribs! The crash happened after work on my commute home. I often fit in a bit of workout by making multiple trips up and down the river bluff near downtown Calgary. On Friday, on one of the trips down I was on a gentle slope on a gravel lane - lost control in loose gravel, went over the handle bars and landed on top of a short wooden fence post. It could have been much worse - spine, brain, lungs and spleen are all okay. I guess my skeleton did it's job and protected my organs. With enough time and pain killers there is good reason to believe I can get back to normal before the year is out. And both knees are feeling pretty good now. Don |

I'm sure the challenge's participants are still getting it done. I'm at 481 mi. or so, which means I've fallen off the pace. Early in August I started riding on my bike trainer. This last week I have started to ride outside. I went for a few runs starting on Aug 7 but I've stopped running because of pain in my ankle. It's a little frustrating that my ankle is causing problems when I have managed to (mostly, sort of) recover from significant injuries to my ribs, clavicle and knee. The Dr says to avoid strenuous upper body activity for at least another three weeks. Cheers Don |

Fortunately riding doesn't bother my ankle. Pain in my ankles is something I've been dealing with for a few years. It comes and goes and in the past I've run through it and it didn't ever really stop me from running. Prior to my recent glut of injuries I had a period of a year or so where my ankles felt great.
