They did!? Probably afraid after the talk of this being one of the toughest HIMs and the rainout and some of the planning issues that people wouldn't come back.

PICTURES ARE UP!!!

Yeah, the race entry is ONLY $175....that's still a lot of dough. I think they had that price when they first opened up the race, didn't they?

I signed up on like the third day it was open and I paid $190. I think this year's "finishers" should get a substantial discount and let everyone else pay regular price. If they want me to come back bad enough they'll work with me, right? Bueller...?

I'll consider coming back to play as long as my participant shirt doesn't say "Finisher" on the back before I even start the race.

Seriously. I don't even feel like I can warrant wearing it now.

I agree. There are plenty of HIMs that are 'generic' brand that cost $135. I loved the race, and want to come back, but if they really wanted to get the 40% that didn't finish back, they have to cough up a bit more dough.

And yes, handing out 'finishers' shirts before the race was just ASKING for trouble.

Do you really think that it was 40% of the field that didn't finish? I'd venture to say a bit more, although it's such a grey area for the folks that would've had 2 miles left, judging from the times.

I have seen that figure thrown out a few times, its unlikely.

They called the race at what 5:25? After that they have no idea how many finished the full, 68.3, 63.5, or whatever.

Just to give it some perspective, 33% of BLST 70.3 finishers finshed in under 5:25 last year, 34% the year before.

Given that this race seems to compare according to everything I have read, I would think a better estimate is 2/3rds didn't finish by the time they called the race.

That just wouldn't sound good for NAS, and since they didn't track who ran what, they can throw out the 40% figure and nobody can challenge it.

Oh YEAH I finished. I ran 7:10s in the half-mary. I'm good. REAL good!

No...much later than that.  I started at 7:00 AM and had a full finish time of 5:54 and wasn't near getting pulled from the course.  I waited at the finish for a friend who started in a earlier wave who was 10 minutes behind me on the run.  He was also able to finish the full course at around 6:10.  So the race was called much later than 5:25 into the race.  Maybe more like 6:25'ish.

That is weird, we have one guy in my division who must have ran 5 minute miles after a 3:41 hour bike that finished at 5:28, I got pulled at 5:44, given the 15 minutes before my wave started its still just under 6 on the finish clock in my pics.

If you are looking at the 'official' results online, they are completely bogus. They are posting run times as if everyone ran the entire 13.1 miles. Some people have run averages posted at 3 minute miles - come on.

I'm disappointed that they posted everything as 'official' when in reality it is far from it.

Also, regarding results, it seems they just decided NOT to post ANY times for those who received penalites. What's up with that?

They made me go in and I was passing the lady at 6:09ish. And I would've come in under 6:30, so I know it was much eariler than 6:25. I'm saying around 6 on the dottish.

I started at 7:09 [just guessing on that, it's when my wave was "supposed" to start, so I'll assume that's correct], have a 5:41 finish time but only got past the 6 mile marker [we'll call it 6.55 miles] when I got pulled into the finisher chute. My run "pace" is 5:24/mi but really probably double that. That would put the race cancellation [assuming I was one of the first] at about 5h 50min, or 1:50pm. My wife said she first heard about the cancellation maybe 10 min. before she saw me there, so between 1:40-1:50pm

I finished at 6:01 on the official clock and they were already routing people to the finish time. I would have passed the finish line at about 5:40 for my last 2 or so miles and didn't get pulled off. That means they called it after 12:30pm. People got to finish without being pulled if they made it onto the last loop.

Okay, read a few paragraphs or do a general overview of this latest news from the Western States 100, and then ask yourself how you feel about the announcements or the lack thereof made regarding the cancellation of IMKS. What should my response be to this? I'm trying really hard not to let it get up my nose but it sort of does.

Maybe I should have just gone faster.

What do you mean by "What your response should be?"

I still don't understand what all the commotion is about the race being cancelled because of events outside the control of the race director.  Was it handled the best way, probably not from what I've read.   And perhaps my opinion would be different if I actually completed my bike leg and was half way thru the run course.  However, as I drove in the morning of the race and saw lightening on the horizon, I was already preparing myself for the heartbreak of driving home DNS - because I know events can be cancelled because of inclimate weather.

I think the only lack of announcments really only relates to how they have posted their results. There is no indication on who finished the entire race and who did not and for those that wanted an idea how they did against the rest of the field its hard to tell. I know Lisa is listed as 3rd to last in her Age Group behind people that half running paces under a 4 min mile. Obviously these people didn't get as far.

I think the call they made on the weather was not so much a bad call but I will say that if you call at Race becuase of bad weather there should be some effort to get people off the course, not packing up the aid stations and letting them run to the finish. People were on that course for 45 min to an hour after the race was called, if safety is such a concern why let people run that long in the weather thinking they could finish?
