Say that to the others that are doing it with me. Three 40, one 50 year old and a couple young mid 30 year olds. Then me and Brad are the young guns at 24 and 25

Doing them on 1:30, so 2:30 hours.

smilford - 2010-02-18 1:52 PM hah I'm a little nervous about the 100x100 swim I've got tomorrow. My arms already hurt.

Hummm....  If my math is correct that would be a 10K swim.  I think other things are going to hurt as well!!

Are you kidding?  I think Stephen is made of rubber... kind of like Gumby, ha ha ha ha!!  Wait, Gumby doesn't wear polka dots or a lightning bolt Speedo!  6.2 miles of 100's???  On 1:30... NO WAY NO HOW!   I don't even think I could hold at 2:00 and I can swim a 1:35!  Stephen will probably be out riding 65 miles or something tomorrow.... at 25 mph, uphill into the wind!

That was fun.

2 hours 29minutes and 10 seconds. I did the last 10 on 1:25 for kicks. IT did hurt though.

Dude, don't even think of putting that on my schedule...a.) there is no way I could keep track of the laps and b.) there is no way I can get done before PT or before the pool closes in the evening. c.) I think it'd make me a duathlete for the rest of my life!

Another crazy week--they don't stop. I think this is the year of the wrench...the wrench getting thrown into things.  So, since I disliked the race last weekend, i'm signed up for the Dallas Rock and Roll 1/2 Marathon in April. I have a 10K in April too, but it's a really small deal and something that my higher HQs unit is running, so I kind of have to go and either support or run, might as well run.

Well, I'm off to bed, lots to do this weekend, but I'll be stopping in on y'all!

You're not doing a 100x100... you've got to want that. It's purely mental.

I got LASIK surgery yesterday! Not trying to be a weenie about things...but, per eye surgeon no swimming or hot tubbing until next week Saturday. Probably a good thing so I can work more on running/biking.

No hot tubbing??  It's not like anyone actually puts their head underwater and opens their eyes in a hot tub!!  How awful was the surgery and how is your eye sight now?

Surgery went great! Probably took less than 5 minutes for both eyes. Vision was blurry the first day, but that is clearing up every day. It is a whole different world after surgery not needing glasses or contacts.
Any kind of contaminated water I need to avoid until Saturday. Probably would cause an infection in the eye, which I don't want to go through. Doesn't matter if my head is in it or above it. I am following doctor orders.

Hey congrats on the surgery, I know lots of folks who have been so pleased with the results and love ridding themselves of the glasses.  Did the doc say anything about sweat? I can't imagine it's really contaminated water, but I'd definitely wear a headband or hat to keep that trickle down. Then again, I sweat quite a bit, so you may not have that problem.

Good wishes to Hilde as she tapers this week in prep for her FIRST 1/2 Marathon next weekend! Woohoo!

I wear a hat to keep the sweat out. If it does get near my eyes, I need to blot it, not rub it. No eye rubbing until Saturday.

Anybody got good online video links (or advice) on how to do flip turns in the pool?

Try goswim.com.  They have tons of videos, and I'm pretty sure they have a 4-part video on flip turns.  You don't really NEED 'em for triathlon, but they sure are cool!!  They are automatic for me, and I do swim only races every once in awhile and can attest that the flip turn CAN make the race... I raced a woman in a 500 who did open turns... she was actually faster than me during the swim (at first anyways ) but I would catch her at the turns.

Here's a video that I've watched on how to do flip turns but never actually used.  I supposed I should someday...

Flip turns are fun except I always get a lot of water up my nose!

I actually don't do flip turns. I'm the fastest guy I know who doesn't do flip turns! That's gotta be worth something... right? I actually have a hole in my bone just below my nose that builds a lot of pressure when I do flip turns(or fall backwards with open turns).

I tell people I don't care if you do open turns, but don't grab the wall. Swim into the wall and then push off with an open palm. No hesitation at the wall. Your open turns should be pretty darn fast. I only lose ground to people with really good flip turns.

WOW, I totally would've never guessed this!!  I hate flip turns, I have done competitive swimming and learned them, but dang, they make me dizzy or something and require more energy than just an open turn.  However, I do some pretty fast open turns--Hilde can attest to that--no hanging on just turn and go!

hope everyone in the group up in the north that is getting the "snowicane" is surviving!! We had snow here in Central Texas this week, about 4-5 inches on Tuesday, it was crazy and shut everything down, hahahaha!! Nothing like I've seen living in Germany and NY, but it was fun, and gone by Wed.  Thankfully, we got out early cause of it, and i needed it, got SLAMMED by a bad cold, but it 's quick and I'd probably claim 95% tonight.

Okay, Hilde heads out tomorrow for her first 1/2 Mary weekend!! Be sure to send her some inspires.  Anyone else racing this weekend or soon?

I need to wait until next week Thursday to see if I can be cleared to begin swimming again by the eye doc. It doesn't sound like anything major, but he wants to make sure that more of the "red ring" is gone in my eyes and doesn't want the chlorine to irritate. Does anyone have ideas in ways to make strictly dryland training a little bit more exciting?

too bad about staying out of the pool but how about some good playlists to spice things up? Spin class? New running routes? Variety usually perks me up

Hi team - it's been quiet around here. Things are going well except that i am lacking motivation for the moment for getting on the bike trainer ... sigh. I really have to get it in gear.

How's everyone else?
