Dream Chaser - 2009-12-16 9:47 AM

I'm taking this, my first Ironman, way too serious. It's like losing your virginity, I want everything to be perfect for my first time ; but more than likely it'll be long and painful, unlike the other which was quick and euphoric .

If this were Ironman Florida I wouldn't even really give a hoot. Like it's so hard to coast on flat roads and draft for 112 miles and then jog a pancake flat marathon course. Pleeeze Real Ironmen are crowned in the Mountains.

Keep up the fantastic comments Drunk Uncle Doofenshmirtz!

I'm going back to quietly training now.

Do the work between now and then. Then you show up on race day and go have fun. Keep your race plan & nutrition plan flexible. And you will have a great day. It will be long & painful if you are too serious or too rigid. You do the work and keep the right attitude, your race will be a blast.

And x2 Drunk Unc, keep it coming!

Who's up for getting totally ripped the night before the race on some Ubu and racing hung over?  I wonder if that has even been tried before ....... maybe I'll do that.  Everyone knows me, I like a challenge. Cool

Can we set up a Skype call so I can be on the phone getting loaded too?!!!

And yes, A glass or two of a nice Chardonnay are a pre-reace tradition for me as well.

HEY YOU KID'S!!!! GET OFF MY LAWN!!!!!!

So far not to many BTers have Kona spots...

So you comes here instead...

Ahh, but that's whay I am here. This race has the largest number to real Kona contenders of any IM race next year. I will be watching the logs and making my time and Kona predictions before the race, I'm pretty good at that. Stay tuned.

PennState - 2009-12-16 10:41 AM Great idea...it would also provide a convenient excuse if you happened to not perform well

"Perform well" and "Rick's long distance race results" are oxymorons .........

If I did perform well, then I could use the beer as an excuse!

wow...what a great thread...packed with trash talk goodness.....we should get to page 100 by march.....

Bryan, LP would provide a good warm up for the big island.....though it looks like you could face some pretty good BT competition, so I see your desire to stay local.....Wink

Makes sense and I think there is a lot of potential in the group for fast times as proved by previous performances.

You hope they can come race with you in October in Kona.

How funny would it be if Jorge through down a 9:19 ... anyway,

I'm gonna start a new Category: BT Ironman Virgin Category.   I'm gonna thrown down the gauntlet and predict I will take 3rd in this Catergory.  That's right, I'm going to Podium it baby!!  Any questions?  I didn't think so

Times won't matter as the courses are so different. Overall placing and AG placing will determine who is King of the IM's. Right now, there is ONE person doing this race that I think has a very legitimate shot at beating my 35th OA and 3rd in the AG.

Anybody want to take a guess?

Didn't even take very long to get that one right! Indeed, our own, sweet, humble, and VERY FAST Alaina is my current top pick based on overall results.

Though, I presume you need to actually train in order to go fast.

IM is a completely different beast than a half ......... I'm reserving my judgement on who will do well and who will not, especially the first timers who are fasties.  (I hate to throw Dan and I under the bus, but there are two very good examples right there .......)

At this point, she is the ONLY one I am willing to make a prediction on. Everyone else I will wait and see how their training comes along. Alaina was fast from the get go and reminds me a lot of my first 10 months in the sport and that was a rookie season that would be tough to beat. With this IM being the culmination of her rookie season in my mind, I think she will do just that.

Cut it out! The pressure is killing me! Maybe that's what's making me fart, not dairy hehe.

35th OA is quite daunting- but if we don't include boys or pro women, then sure- I'll take those odds!

Just to put it out there, my #1 goal is to beat Ryan (yeats). I know he's new to all this, but you guys really do have to watch out for him- if he stays injury free, he's going to post a crazy fast first IM time.

I'm not really a rookie, just a rookie at this distance

Still you are relatively new to the sport, even doing it a few years now. What's funny is that you and I both did our first halfs at the same race, SOMA 2006. Get used to people having high expectations and manage them well. It's hard sometimes but I think you can handle it.

Yeah, the overall is so tough as there are so many men, so to be fair, I was the 10th Male AG'er, so you shoot for 3rd int he AG or better, 10th female AG'er or better.

I had a nightmare last night.  I won my AG at LP with a 9:50 and WTC striped me of the title and banned me for life for using my Garmin.  They said I was using PED’s (Personal Electronic Devices).

HOW fricken scary was that!

Based on the times from last year, 9:50 would have given me 3rd in M40-44. Tougher course.
