kt65 - 2010-07-02 7:10 PM Do you guys want to hear something crazy?  Someone posted in CA forum the Kona qualifiers for 2010 from CA70.3.

It seems I should have gone to the rolldown.  W45-49 Kona qualifier was 85/90 with a finish time of 8:18 or something crazy like that.  I never even thought to look...i was somewhere like 36/90.

Probably my best chance to get it...so sad

That totally sucks!!  Hard to believe it went so far down......crazy.  The only bright spot is if Vineman is a qualifier you have another chance.  And next year you will be even faster than you are now so don't despair....maybe you should be practicing OWS a little more in case it comes true.  Ahh, no wetsuit and in the ocean and that ain't calm Missy.

LOL, no, Vineman is not a qualifier for Kona, it is for Clearwater.  And I'm not fast enough, silly.  My friend who took the #1 spot AG at my oly last month is doing vineman, so I'm sure she'll take that spot!  She did this race sub 5 two years ago!  And she swims TI style.  Crazy.

But you are right about OWS, I hope to get out there this weekend.  But it's still 56F in the bay.
Wah, Wah, Wah!!!  No IM for me this year...mebbe 2011?  Oh, Snap!  Did I just say that???

according to the results only 5 of 28 clearwater slots were accepted.  something isn't right there.

also search blogs mary pifer and there lots of mention of why she raced, AWESOME,  but no mention of kona.

could be,  but i think there would be a lot more attention paid to this if it were the case.

edit... my point kim is don't be sad!!!!

one more edit.  didn't even catch this.      in almost every other a/g 1st or 2nd took it.  besides your a/g, longest rolldown was 7th.  BUT your a/g went to 85th???   no.

Great news George - your son is a such a trooper!  My best wishes and prayers are with you all!

Thanks!  Just so everyone knows, this is not a surgery so it is actually a pretty easy trip.  The prosthetic is actually something that is glued on each day.  In the future, he can have some "hardware" installed to allow it to clip on but they won't do that until he is finished growing.  The person who makes the prosthetics is pretty interesting.  Used to be a disguise artist for the CIA - think Tom Cruise peeling his disguise mask off in Mission Impossible - that is the type of stuff he used to do for spies!

The guy looks SO familiar. I think I saw him on How It's Made. Totally cool. :-) Wish your son the best for his ear! I know how it feels, while I'm deaf, kids still make fun of the "device" that's on my ear, and I had a friend that was missing an ear.

Maybe because it's an older AG that many of them don't want to invest their time into doing a Kona?  Or some of them already qualify and they accepted?  But..yeah 85th place seems a little too far.

CLOTHING QUESTION: For Ladies

I'm in dire need of more running shorts. One is not cutting it anymore! :-) Wash, rewash, wash, rewash...ARGH!

I also have one pair of nice and cool (I mean keeping you cool), running shorts, but due to thick thighs, they ride up and it's very annoying to run in. So, I resorted to snug fitting shorts.   However, because it's cotton (I don't think it's 100% cotton), and slightly thicker so it makes my legs a little too warm for my taste.

Do anyone know of a brand that's not thick, moisture wicking, keeps you cool, and snug? I don't like it too loose as I jiggle more than I really want, so a little compression is good. :-)   I'm just tired of looking for the right ones. All the ones I see are yoga pants that are capri's, too long, too thick, or too loose where it will ride up between the cracks of my butt.

Thanks!

HAPPY 4TH OF JULY, MG

And congratulations to you all on getting free from England's yoke.  I, however, have not been that fortunate. I stuck am in London for work most likely until the end of the month.  And, to make matters worse, I am in a large conference room with a dozen other people for 14-16 hours a day every day of the week.  So I have not been able to get out and enjoy myself or see the city or take in a show.  I mean I enjoy my job, but miss my family and miss beIng able to get outside for exercise.  Every few years (without prediction), my job gets really intense and time consuming, and this is one of those years.  We traditionally bill roughly 2000 for the year - and I have billed 1500 in the first half 2010.  It definitely cuts into my family and training time.

I did get one really good run in this week.  I ran with the husband of one of the client representatives.  He is the track coach at a high school, and gave me a lot of pointers.  During the run, I was also laughing inside.  We were running at my pace - we did like 7 miles at 8:20 per mile.  I am huffing and puffing with a HR of like 165 and barely able to hold a conversation.  I look over at him and he, on the other hand, is cool as a cucumber and it appears that this is as easy for him as walking to curb to get the morning paper.  Nevertheless, I really enjoyed it - he is a really good guy and good company.  Plus, I found out that it was his second run of the day; he had already done a 6 mile loop in the morning.

GOOD LUCK ALL OUR RACERS.  AND ENJOY THE 4TH OF JULY - PARADES, FIREWORKS, ETC.

Thanks, William, you have a good one, too!  Maybe you can find a good American pub that serves hot dogs and hoist one for the good ol' US of A!

Is it crazy being there while Wimbledon is going on?  Guess if you are stuck in meetings all day, you'd never know!

Happy 4th of July to all of our MG peeps!!!!!

And Trevor and Rob, Happy Random Sunday, hope your race goes well, Trev!!!

Dj - I have thick thighs too so I understand your plight. It has taken me a lot of trial and error, but I like the underarmour and rei compression shorts. Also, recently I got a pair of Skins compression shorts and love them but they're pricey

Happy 4th everyone!!! Hope you're having a great weekend!

I just made our camping reservations to volunteer at IM Canada woo hoo!

Oooh! Thanks!  Do you feel like the compression shorts are too tight?  Or are they just snug and hold the "jiggly" stuff together?    How about keeping your legs cool....mine was too thick of a material, so it caused my legs to feel too hot after a while. I'm going longer and longer, so I want something that will kind of keep me cool a little.

Whoo! That should be fun volunteering!

Yep, they're just snug and not tight. The UnderArmour Heat Gear Compression short is the best for keeping cool. They are very thin and wicking, but not so much that they're see through.

I found this link for the shorts and it includes some reviews: http://www.sportsauthority.com/product/index.jsp?productId=1383997&CAWELAID=115878025

Happy Fourth of July Everyone!!!  Who is having sparklers tonight? and will someone light one for me????

Weather isn't cooperating for us today, but Paul and I are off to help build a float for the Parade.  Paul agreed to assist during a weak moment at Margarita Fest yesterday.  Other than that, super low key tonight, Grilling, Watching the Tour and getting ready for my big 100 mile ride/20 min brick run tomorrow.  The vacation continues...

John, blow some up for us here in Maryland!  Real fireworks are not allowed to be sold in the state.  We have to cross the border to purchase them and they are still illegal!

Suzy, seriously? A 100 mile ride followed by a 20 run? Man that is a huge workout, do you do that with others or by yourself!  You are amazing!

We bought some sparklers at Costco here in Hawaii - the kids have never played with them - they're illegal in CA.  Our goal is to have no injuries!!

Happy Fourth to All!  And a special thanks to all that are still fighting, the world over, to keep us safe and celebrating.

Alright, well the crazy week is over. I did finish it out with a 50 mile ride on Friday. It is my longest ride to date and was pretty taxing. I did make it all the way and my legs are still sore.

Happy 4th to everyone.

I have been keeping up the training when I have time. It was a little short this week due to the training that took place at work which had me studying quite a bit. I am back and will be online chatting like my old self again.

Nice job on the ride! A 50 mile ride is a big accomplishment. Did you take some nutrition along with you? How did that feel?
