Don't add me to racing Manatees this week, I'm skipping out on my tri and doing a horse show instead!

That sounds so cool, have a blast!

Hahahaha! And you sound devastated about it Wink  Have a great event. Post pics sometime so I can get my drool on...bikes just don't do it for me the same as horses. (I'm sure that's BT blasphemy)

Good luck on all the house dealings. Those are always a bit stressful and time consuming.

Oooh - best of luck with the new house!  And have fun at the horse show - sounds like you won't miss doing the tri at all!

Apartment life, I'm not sure I could do it after being in a house for as long as I have.  That said, make sure you congratulate your neighbor on his abilities. Surprised

It's definitely interesting living in an apartment building some days... And I did applaud after the big finale last night (this morning), but I don't think they heard me.  Maybe I should slip an 'inspire' under their door just saying "nice work!!"

I experience this occasionally in hotels. I can't imagine dealing with it on a regular basis. Like Chris, I've lived in a house too long to share walls.

Even with shyte like that I LOVE inner city living. I think I am the opposite. I lived in a house in the burbs with a ton of acreage (ie yard work) for too long Smile

I'm a wee bit outside of "downtown" but I could totally handle more.

However, I love motorcycles and all but Harleys annoy the crap out of me.

I'm sure there are a lot of great things about living in downtown Chicago, but I agree with Chris, I can't do apartment life any more. So, now that you know that your bedroom walls are thin enough to hear what's going on in the other apartment, hope the thought that the reverse is true doesn't affect you

I was going to hijack the hijack in the Core Challenge thread but decided to contemplate this here, where I feel... safer.

So Chris' talk of bluegrass got me thinking about my Grandma. Typical Iowa grandma. Short, round and full of love. She always had old school country or bluegrass playing at that farmhouse in Winterset, Iowa (think Bridges of Madison County) and could sing and yodel with the best of them. Her "round-ness" is so much a part of my fond memories of her (God I miss her). Of course, the food she made was Paula Deen style with lots of fat and butter, but she made THE BEST biscuits n' gravy!!!!!!!

So thinking about Felicia's RR and which grandma do I want to be (hopefully those days are still a few years away). Do I want to be the round (wouldn't take much to get back there) grandma that spoils my grandkids with yummy treats and good hardy meals, or do I want to be the fit grandma that can run and play with them and they (maybe) think I'm badazz because "Grandma did an Ironman", but I feed them carrots (okay, maybe a slight exaggeration because I try to make healthy food that tastes good). Being wrapped up in grandma's jiggly arms against her robust bosom was so comforting...

BTW, DS2 gets here tomorrow!!!!!!!!!!!! (and he requested biscuits n gravy for breakfast)

Can't you be a blend? My mother is 83. For her 70 th birthday she went white water rafting. When she was 77 she went tubing. Last year she hiked up the cliffs of Dun Aonghasa on the Aran Islands, this year she made the climb to the top of Mount St Michel in France. She did lots of other things during these vacations too. She also makes a turkey soup that all her grandchildren ( and children) continually ask her to make and always has chocolate and or Oreos handy for us all. Her grandchildren regularly say, "Nana, you are the coolest nana ever !" I can't disagree with that sentiment.

I was kinda thinking along those lines, I guess I just don't have that modelled for me. I come from farm stock, where the women work hard but they're... fluffy. Laughing My mom isn't fluffy but it isn't because she eats healthy or has an active lifestyle. Her metabolism went wacko a few years back and she can't gain a pound if she tries. (She makes a pretty mean biscuits n gravy too).

I guess it goes back to the feeling of comfort with  grandma making yummies in the kitchen, the warm stove, oldies on the radio (even at my mom's). I must admit I have the habit of expressing love through food too. I try to keep it healthy on a regular basis for DH and DS1, but I love the feeling of someone enjoying food I've made. "Eat!! Eat!!"

Drive by posting here--totally mental (everything, and me).

Skrat--more runny, more timey. Your legs are perfectly capable of running 10-minute miles. Gentle trot.

Judi--ABOUT FACHING TIME! Woooohoooooo!

Salts--nice going!

11:40 and I'm finally in bed after another long ridiculous day. Unfortunately, I still haven't packed for a 3am wake-up to leave for airport by 3:30. Travel day tomorrow BUT THE GREAT NEWS is that I get a few days at the Paralympic Games and the Funny Farm before I head back! Yeehaw!

Happy Friday Eve Manatees - today is brought to you by my favourite sponsor... COFFEE!

This is thanks to a couple of things:

1) Tony left for NYC last night and it was weird having the entire apartment and bed to myself;

2) the seemingly endless effing police sirens;

3) the idiot Harley/Harley wannabe riders with their idiotic loud pipes; and

4) my neighbour who decided to display his impressive...um... "stamina" last night on a very squeaky bed until almost 2am.

I'm the same - lived in a house in the 'burbs growing up, and so far - I don't miss it.

We go out to friends' houses and every so often have the thought of 'maybe we should look at moving to...' and then those thoughts go away when we think of having to buy a car to go anywhere, not being able to walk to work, the theater, restaurants, grocery stores, shops, the lake, being 2 blocks from the lakefront trail, having all the festivals, etc. within walking distance... I'll put up with a little of the eee-oooo, eee-oooo night time noises for what I do get out of it.

I miss having a motorcycle - but no way are you getting me on a d a mn Harley!  I'm a sport bike girl.
