P.S.

I've also gone vegan (and whole foods organic whenever possible). Not strictly: if someone gives me a cheese-flavored cracker I'll eat it, I won't turn down ice-cream, and if someone made a veggie soup with chicken broth that's cool too.

But no meat, dairy, eggs, very little processed food.

Exceptions are made for things like Pop Tarts (but I do have some organic vegan ones!) and Nutri-Grain either before long sessions or as recovery food after.

Then post a pic....

So, now my focus has shifted to this weekend's big race.

The milk mile.

It goes: drink, lap, drink, lap, drink, lap, drink lap.

Gawd I am hoping for 8 oz glasses of milk, Puullleeeeeease

This would read like this if I had to drink milk while running

drink, lap, barf, drink, lap, vomit, drink, lap, spew.

Does lap mean just running or must one drink like a kitten at that point?

After you post your suggestions - I will post what I noticed.

Thanks - Skrat

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OUvTsfG7YO8&feature=youtu.be

I am by no means an expert!

BUT your right arm seems to enter perfectly - deep catch high elbow looks really efficient.  Your left arm is completely different, it's a straight arm catch.  On speaking with guru coach piglet Johnny he said everyone is different.  For me I need a shorter reach, deep catch very bent elbow as I don't have the upper body strength of powerful kick to make a long straight catch work.

He said to look on you tube for me at distance swimming ladies.  So I'm gonna do that.  I suggest you look at long distance men as your strength will be better.

BUT definitely get both arms doing the same!  Your entry is good - not too wide not too narrow from what I can see.

your legs are low in the water very common when you have good upper body strength and not a huge issue but not efficient.

To get your legs up slightly lower your head, tighten your core and squeeze those butt cheeks, your hips will lift.

Your kick - you are using a lot of energy with your kick which is fine for shorter races where you can sprint.  But if it's HIM or IM I would look at reducing your kick a little.  Try the butt tightening exercise and a drill where you try and keep your legs absolutely straight and just kick from the hip and the ankle - you'll feel like your legs are straight but they won't be.

This drill alone has improved my swim heaps.

Of course a kick drill is always good, get the kick board do a kick set every few hundred metres.  For kicking Johnny says it's like flicking off a sock.  That's the movement you're looking for.

There that is my non expert opinion.

OH AND NICE VIDEO....Embarassed

Good day everyone, I hope the weekend gets here fast. I just read through a few race reports and I have to state for the record that ya'll are the most supportive group of folks around.

Enjoy whatever comes your way today, smile lots, love more! And remember that time is more valuable than money. You can get more money, but you can’t get more time.

OMIGOSH MANATEES I HAVE SO FALLEN IN LOVE AND HAD THE MOST AMAZING DAY.

Spent the day at the pool at the Paragames in Bali scouting for triathlete candidates ... and with the guy who's the Michael Phelps of the Paralympics.

Frankly I should say Michael Phelps is the Kingsley Bugarin of the Olympics! Kingsley did it first and better.

Kingsley is a TOTAL PIGLET and for whatever completely incomprehensible reason, he seems to adore me too. Okay, it's probably because he's blind, so it just means I have a super winning personality. Tongue out

Five Paralympics, a shovelful of medals (including golds), and now he's breaking records in open water swimming ...

JOJO and STACE FACE he's done Rottie 4x and plans to do it every year 'til he's 80 or just can't. (That's a famous open water swim in our part of the world--18km off Western Australia). Also considering double crossings.

WONDERMOOSE his middle name is Haldane ... as in related to JBS Haldane. So he's high on the geek gene scale too.

Here's a pic of us together. I'll get a better one of me showing the new fitness (and more skin), but if you look at this next to the avatar one (might post them side by side) there are 3 major differences: 1) now you can see my ribcage; 2) there's a skinfold instead of an inflated spare tyre midway--doesn't look great but it'll sort out; 3) no lower belly over the undies. Oh and 4) if you look REALLY close you CAN see the obliques on the side that I first thought were stretch marks or something weird!

Oooooh more pics. You just know me when I get excited

Notice how he's got his arm perfectly draped so the side touches the side of ... yeah, I noticed that too.

And he bought me a gelato ... he looks quite pleased with himself (and me, I think) ... lot of licking and slurping sounds.

Okay, okay, okay, the piglet the piglet the piglet.

I also met some extraordinary athletes today and watched both a national and Asian record being broken (in weightlifting). She tried for the world but couldn't quite make it--she's 35kg and lifted 90kg for the Asian record!

Kingsley and I paced an arm-amputee in his first 50m free swim race ever (he was the only swimmer for that event in that category)--and holy shyte, he's a new swimmer (just a few months of training) but I was struggling to keep up with him in the first 25! There was also a blind swimmer who's really good--he doesn't know how to ride a bike but is willing to learn in any case at the Paralympics, in triathlon, it's a tandem for visually impaired athletes.

Sure thing! I tend to do larger block intervals if you want ideas. Working up around hard, but not necessarily *that* hard for a good deal of time in the weekday riding. Occasionally going up higher. Table 2 over here can help to show benefits of this. A lot of things for me have been high zone 3 to low zone 4. Sometimes going high Z4 and into Z5. Many of the terms on the left can go to "blah blah blah", but simply seeing the quantity of check marks in various locations can help show the value of going harder and why we may try to target just how hard. Some things go up from 3 to 4 to 5, but others may actually go down.

ETA: Since some of the things I do are more than what many would want to do, this can be scaled around some. Where I do several 20 minute intervals in lower Z4, others who ride an hour or less may do say 5-10 minute intervals in mid to higher Z4 more often instead. Kind of finding what works for both scheduling and bringing on a response for an individual.

Happy Friday Manatees!

Stupid insomnia struck again last night, but thankfully not due to the squeaky bedsprings of my upstairs neighbour - I just couldn't sleep, so after feeling sorry for my self for a bit, I figured I might as well put on my running shoes and head out.  I'm so glad I did, even if it means I'm going to be absolutely WIRED on caffeine for the day.  It was gorgeous out!!

Lovely.

I have a hard time sleeping when my hubby is gone, too. I don't even get under the sheets.

I was up early this morning, too, but I wasn't productive. I bought a bunch of books on Amazon and paid bills.

I always go back and forth on the house vs. apartment thing, but today it was a definite bonus to live where we do.  Three blocks from the lake is hard to beat some days.

I did try reading for a bit this morning to see if that would help, hell, I even tried to find one of the books I have on patent law as I was SURE that would make me sleepy (too bad that one is here at work), but nada.  It's all good though, just one more night alone and then I'm off to New York tomorrow morning to meet up with the hubby.

ETA: Monica's 5k

GO RACING MANATEES!!!

FYI - the 5km for me isn't really going to be anything more than a 5km walk with some friends (they don't run... at all) with a burger and beer at the end.

Congratulations on both the piglet and the new found fitness! You definitely look very happy and after all the crap you've been through you more than deserve the happiness!
