Elite 4108 Calgary,AB,Canada | Subject: RE: SWBKRUN Mentor Group-Closed! KEEP ASKING QUESTIONS!!! Hey Jeremy.....in your RR you said you couldnt find your Garmin Strap. what did you mean by that? I'm assuming you have your Garmin mounted on your bike? DO you have the quick release? If so, why not put the strap on your wrist prior to the swim and keep it on. Then after the bike you can pop the Garmin onto your wrist and VOILA...That would save you a bit of time in transition. |

Looks there were some great performances this weekend. And some tragedy. How are the injured bikers doing? Karen, how are you doing with your stones, etc? Trevor, I think it's time for us to give up softball. I survived. My swim SUCKED. But I really didn't expect much else. My swimming felt good, but I never got comfortable in the water. Never got panicked either, but never comfortable so I just got thru it. The only time I questioned my ability to finish the swim was at about 150 yards in and a guy in my group, about 20 yards behind me, starts screaming HEEELLLLLPPPPPP! That had me thinking. I have a lot more swim work to do. Transitions were both slow, but I had decided beforehand to take my time here for my first time and relax and just get it right. Turns out had I sped up a little here I would have made my goal. I had set a 2 hour goal for my first one. Bike was great - my big A**, sitting up like a sail averaged 19mph. Never got passed - passed A LOT of people. I loved passing the Cervelos, Felts, Specialized, etc tri bikes on my $500 Giant. Knee hurt off the bike and for the first half of the run. Result: HAD A BLAST! READY TO GO AGAIN! My wife wants to do another this coming weekend. She was awesome as well. She ran off the bike course 4 times, but never wrecked so she has some work to do there. I'll get a RR up later. BTW, Chicago was great. Lake Michigan is COLD. The Lincoln Park Zoo is extremely nice. It was a great game and being down on Wrigley Field...well...gave me goose bumps. Tiller brought some brick dust home in his pocket. The girls talked about it all the way home. Great job Reuben, congrats on your first! |

TrevorC - 2009-08-10 2:30 PM Hey Jeremy.....in your RR you said you couldnt find your Garmin Strap. what did you mean by that? I'm assuming you have your Garmin mounted on your bike? DO you have the quick release? If so, why not put the strap on your wrist prior to the swim and keep it on. Then after the bike you can pop the Garmin onto your wrist and VOILA...That would save you a bit of time in transition. I do have the quick release bike mount and the velcro wrist strap. I don't swim with the Garmin, yeah, it's set up on my bike 'Auto Paused' so I get my bike and go. I wore the wrist strap at my last tri and while there were no issues, I'd hate to swim into someone and cut their wetsuit or body as the clips are pretty sharp. Can you imagine getting stuck to someones leg during the swim? That would be bad... or maybe I'd get stuck onto someone fast, huh. What I planned was to go in at T2, rack the bike, drop the helmet, don the run shoes, grab my visor/# bib/wrist strap and then exit T2 and put it all on during the run. Since I couldn't find the strap I just dropped the Garmin with my other transition stuff. |

Congrats on your Tri! Chicago is great, I went there all the time when during the college yrs. Wrigley is one of the best places to see a game. Did you get a chance to eat italian beef sandwiches? |

Regular 310 Seymour, IN | Subject: RE: SWBKRUN Mentor Group-Closed! KEEP ASKING QUESTIONS!!! Thanks, everyone for the well wishes and inspires. It's been a long wait to get back on here since the race and report to you all. I felt an urge to let you all know how it went. You all were a tremendous motivation and resource. The neatest thing from the race was all the people from Seymour (about 13 plus spouses and kids)...my wife was the last Seymour finisher and as each Seymour person finished we all met under a tree at the finish line to cheer everyone on. Everyone of them (even the two brothers that finished in about 1:20) and spouses and kids waited the full hour for Robin to cross. Then we went to eat. Suzy, the swim was not Lake Michigan...the kids just wanted to get in the lake since we were there. And it was cold...and I was thinking about your post of the 15 people getting pulled from it during a tri. |

Tiller and I both had $6 cheeseburgers and pretzels. |

Elite 3395 Raleigh | Subject: RE: SWBKRUN Mentor Group-Closed! KEEP ASKING QUESTIONS!!! dbw27 - 2009-08-10 11:29 AM Hey: I wanted to add, for everyone, that I am doing better. I recall now that I get really bad post-race blues after every race (except sprints) and that it takes me a good 2-3 weeks before I even want to look at my training plan. So I started back up again today and feel better. Now if I can just control my eating. Does anyone else hating? I really hate it. It is 'stressful' to me. Monitoring everything so closely - when and what to eat all of the time with sports nutrition. Sigh. Anyone ever just eat chocolate? :-D But I am feeling better, and I the utter idiot forgot that I am anemic and seem to not be taking my liquid iron. Sigh. I know. So hopefully, I can feel better soon now that the post-race blues should be over. But I want to thank everyone for your support. You guys are great! yours truly, dbw27 Dannette: I picked up some old issues of Triathlete Magazine today (2004-2006). In the July 2004 issue there is an article about post Ironman Depression. They could not draw broad conclusions because of their small sample, but one comment sticks out. Most triathletes counter depression by training. After finishing a Tr, if they have no plan they get depressed. The solution was to start back training sooner as this will help fight the feelings of depression. I can scan the article and email it to you if you like. Doug |
