Well I broke my sugar-less streak last night, but I feel great about it! It was not stress eating or caving to an insane craving, I just wanted to have something sweet. I went to the candy aisle and hit the bulk bin, got a few sour grapefruit slices, a few sour gummie worms and some chocolate covered gummie bears ( yes I thought they would be nasty until I tried them at the movies a few months ago...so yummy). I thought about every bite and enjoyed them. Back on track today with paleo, no guilt at all. Perfect cheat

at the risk of being involved in too many threads at once, I'd love to join in here too.  Weight loss is an always present goal of mine, I've had sucess, and setbacks over the years.  My single biggest weightloss was about 5 years ago, I lost over 50 pounds on South Beach.  That was before I started excercise, just diet related loss.  Anyway, I kept it off for some time, did a few tri's between 2009 and 2011, then tripped last year.  Didn't stay active, and gained ~30 back.  So here I am in 2013, running and stuff again.  I'm ready to take nutrition seriously, and have just started logging my food on myfitnesspal last weekend.  I think I'll need some support on that one, i've tried before but never made it more than a week.  Sealed

So I'm just north of 200 pounds right now, with a goal of 175-180lb (where I was a few years ago).  I am 100% confident I can do it.  At the moment I'm focussing on staying active, and eating well.

So I guess my short term goal is to keep up with myfitnesspal.

My long term goal is 175 pounds.

I weight myself a LOT, but only record the official Monday morning weigh in.  Jan 1 was 210.  Feb 1 was 207.  Yesterday was 203.  I think I can hit sub 200 by the end of the month, which would be very exciting for me!

The strength 3x/week will be a challenge, I don't do any strength right now.  Any links to simple stuff to start with at home?  Something I could do 3x/week in the evenings maybe?  I'd especially love it if there is something that helps with swimming muscles, since I only get to the pool 2x/week at best.

Welcome aboard.

I swear by myfitnesspal.  It is a great app and helps to keep me focused on the goal.  I stopped logging for a couple of months and gained back 15 lbs.  So no more of that for me.  Every day I'm logging now.

Well, well, well, would you look who just achieved a 5K AND a 10K PR.  THIS guy!  Check the blog!

30:03 and 1:00:43, respectively.  Felt pretty damned good, too, considering I had one day off after running >10mi for the first time ever.

Thanks to all of you for the inspiration!

159.8!!! Whoo whooo!

Below 160 for the first time in forever! (From the neighborhood of 200 in January 2012)

My Fitness Pal rocks. 2 months of logging and I have broken through the plateau I was hanging off.

Check out nerdfitness.com.  A coworker started it a couple of weeks ago and was telling me about it.  Real simple exercises at home.  I've started doing it with my sons to get them active while its too cold  or dark to go out and play.

Thanks for the welcome's.  Kristen, congrats on the sub 160!  Scott, I'm liking that nerdfitness site.  I only had a chance so far to read it on my phone, I'll go back later today on the computer for a more thorough look.  Some good stuff there though for sure.

Well looks like I have picked out my first two sprint tri's. I have several months to train for both so I guess its time to get to work.

Race 2

http://dallastri.lifetimetri.com/page/show/507064-races

October 6th. Hilly ride and hilly run from what I have been told

Goal wieght by August is now 215lbs time to start ramping up my intensity a bit

I'm late to the party! Here's my intro...

I'm Lisa, 47 yrs old, married with 22 yr old twins about to graduate in May. Woo-hoo!! After losing 65# in 2010, I have been on a long sloooow plateau since then. It may be entirely coincidental, but I stopped losing weight when I increased my running to half marathon training. I did my first tri in late 2011 after a stress fracture sidelined me for 5 months from running. I chose the pool and bike for an alternative workout and thought "hey, I think I could do a triathlon". Totally dig it. Last year I did 6 including 2 oly. Anyway, I've only lost 15# since Jan 2011. I eat a very clean diet and it is so frustrating that I stall for so long in between a pound or two lost -given the amount of effort put in! I have my first 70.3 in April and getting there a little lighter would be so fantastic.

Mini- Goal: Eat enough calories. It's my downfall.

Long Term Goals:  165 by IM NOLA 70.3

Cardio 6x a week for 60-180 minutes. ~12 hrs/wk

Strength 2x a week for 45 minutes.

Nutrition:  I have a dietician and she has revamped my plan from last winter. Last summer, after a 3 month plateau, I switched to Paleo for Athletes. Terrible results. Yes, I lost 3# immediately. Then nothing for the next 3 months. My LDL is now nearly double and my blood pressure is up not to mention I just felt lethargic. So... back to the dietician. One week in and I feel so much better. Also realized I was (again) way under-eating for my activity, which always causes a stall).

Cheating: Not really into Cheat Days, but I do plan when I know that we will go out to eat so that I don't overdo.

Weekly Weigh-in/Measurements: Every Friday. check! I was 172 the other day. Not expecting a loss for this week since my calories just increased significantly. I'm just hoping it will be the same and not an increase!

Pictures: All I have is race photos? Haha I used to have zero photos! Will see what I can do about a new pic.

so I'm on day 5 of using myfitnesspal and had my first meal out since starting.  I'm not really obsessive or anything, but how do I even begin to guess calories when eating out?  I ate lunch at a pub and had a grilled chicken sandwich.  Basic pub house stuff, nice and greasy with lots of sauces, I don't know where to begin?!?  And a side of sweet potato fries (yummy greasy ones!), again, no clue.  Should I just call it 1500 and write off the day? Sealed

I usually estimate using national chain stuff that's already in there - e.g., grilled chicken sandwich from Applebee's & sweet potato tots from Sonic - or something like that. Not perfect, but I assume it's close enough to give me a good idea.

Plus, you'd be surprised at how much local stuff is in there depending on where you live...tons of people entering stuff.

I use caloriecount. com to log food. I do the same thing. I use chain stuff a lot- I figure it is better to over estimate calories than underestimate. It is also a challenge because I use raw ingredients at home and it is a pain to log each individual ingredient in a dish. Though, on this site, you can put in recipes and it analyzes it and you can save them. I have entered the dishes I make routinely.

I log my food old school - with pen and paper. I weigh everything I eat, and it's a pain because I weigh or measure each ingredient separately as I prep, and I cook a lot. I use calorieking.com and enter in however many grams or mL or what not as I go. Phew! It's slow, but I'm seeing results.

I'm both happy and sad that my favorite belt is too loose for me now. Argh! I'll have to figure out how to punch new holes in it.

yeah, that's what I ended up doing.  But I could find restaurant 'grilled chicken sandwiches' that ranged from 390 - 800 cals in there!  And it just seems crazy that a simple grilled cheese sandwich that I made at home (2 slices sourdough, 2 slices cheese, some buttery spread stuff) is 500 calories, but an entire greasy restaurant sandwich with meat and cheese and mayo and stuff is the same?!?  anyway I just picked a restaurant sandwich and fries that were in there (for a total of 880 cals which seems low to me but... i don't really know) for lunch and had a kale smoothie for dinner.

I'm trying to remind myself, close is good enough.  I can't stress about the details or I'll give up logging entirely!

Jim nice new PR's now you have a new target.

People obsessing (in a good way) over what they put in their bodies.  New folks joining the ranks.  This thread is chock full of motivation.  Tomorrow is another "day of truth".  Good luck to us all.

Welcome scubaluke, David and Lisa.

Love to hear about people's PR's.

Yeah Speedknight and Kristen!

Had a good workout the other day. Warmed up with an intense ab routine, did an upper body workout and then sweated on the bike for 30 mins.
Actually felt myself begin to swagger! I was feeling pretty good and proud of myself...then I caught my reflection in the mirror and there was my mom, only fatter, staring back at me.

How vain am I? Time to get down to the training, the body will follow. Damn all those mirrors - must avert my eyes...

Down 1 for the week at 206.  Was hoping for better but it beats not losing anything or gaining something so I will take it.

Mitzi - don't sweat the mirrors.  The same thing happened to me when I started this thing.  But it provided good motivation once I actually "saw" myself for the uh "husky" fellow I'd let myself become.  And then one day seemingly out of nowhere there was this fitter, and trimmer guy staring back at me in the mirror.

People used to give me a hard time about wearing a biking kit etc.  My response was "hey you want some motivation to work hard and get in shape.....dress yourself in spandex from head to toe."

First week of holding steady. No loss, but still at 125 lbs. Trying to not feel too bummed about it. The real challenge begins today - I'm heading out of town for my grandma's funeral, and that means eating on the road (9 hr road trip), staying at my parents' house (they always eat out or have frozen/processed foods only), and dinners out with the family.

I'm going to try my best to do the following:

- Make healthy choices as much as possible (hard to do at Chinese restaurants, which is where we'll be eating family style - which means the elders order and the younger generation eats what the elders have chosen)

- Slow down! Try to let my brain register I've eaten enough

- Listen to my body, am I really hungry? Do I need to eat everything or just a small, appropriate portion.

- drink lots of water, even if that means lots of potty stops on I-90!

Ugh, wish me luck! Any other on-the-road tips? I hate being away from my kitchen and food scale!

Bring your own snacks. Go to the store and buy cut up veggies if you need to. Order salads with dressing on the side in restaurants. Pass on the rice. Be strong.

Sorry about your Gramma.

Thanks, packing some snacks for the car and decided to bring my food journal to log even though I won't know calories. It'll at least bring awareness to what I have eaten.

"Pass on the rice" though...hmmmmm, you know I'm asian?

Had a good week finally feeling my grove while I run. I was 254.2 last friday and today I am 251.6. Hopefully Next week I can say good bye to the 250s!!! My first "race" is exactly a month away. The River Gorge Trail run in Chattanooga. 6.5 miles Hopefully I will be able to drop some more good weight and my pace time by then!! Good Luck eveyone!
