I was able to swim twice this week and went for a, mostly one legged, short bike ride tonight. Progress!! I won't be able to run until August, but I'll work on everything else as I'm able. I haven't applied for a refund yet, so I'm actually considering making the start line at CdA and doing the swim and maybe one loop of the bike before pulling out. At least I'd get a bit of experience that I could apply to another IM when I get completely healthy again...... Is there not another IM race you could transfer to later in the year? Louisville? Maryland? Something further in the distance that gives you ample time to heal? I considered it, but Louisville is in Aug. and I can't even begin running again until August and I have a conflict of schedule for Maryland in Sept...... Plus with CdA in my back yard it saves a few thousand bucks in travel/lodging, etc... Ideally, IM would let us transfer to next years race and I could be fully recovered and up to par with training...... |

Regular 789 | Subject: RE: Ironman Coeur d'Alene : Official Thread Originally posted by rbhancock1 Rode the highway. Motorists were quite accommodating -- had no problems. Gosh, did you know it's mostly effing uphill to McCall? :-) You are crazy to ride that stretch of road like that. I can see riding to Idaho City etc but to McCall? Highway 55 is very narrow is parts. Good job though |

Regular 389 | Subject: RE: Ironman Coeur d'Alene : Official Thread Alright, end of April, so here is my mileage. Lost some swim sessions due to weather, vacation and a race. Overall, some good training sessions this month and body is only semi fatigued and so far no noticeable injuries. May is going to be a quality month. Hopefully the rain will stay away for some quality training. Be well everyone. Tom April's totals Swim: 7h 48m 07s - 23580 Yd Bike: 28h 52m 22s - 556.17 Mi Run: 17h 36m 48s - 129.65 Mi |

Here are my totals: Swim: 15h 29m 49s - 47,350 Yd (31.4 CTL) I'm feeling really good about my volume. April was a solid month. May is going to be even awesomer, but I really need to turn my focus toward getting down to race weight. I've joined the Skratch Labs Stage Race Challenge on Strava. You just have to ride 16 hours in 8 days.

I hope it continues to go well and you can get back into more activity soon - but follow your doctor's/PTs advice and don't do too much! That would be cool if you're able to at least swim at the race. It surprises me that you can swim already. When I did the number on my ankle in 2011, I pretty much had to drag that ankle in the pool for a long time because the resistance of the water if I tried to kick was very unpleasant. |

Extreme Veteran 494 Olympia, WA | Subject: RE: Ironman Coeur d'Alene : Official Thread Great work on the April totals everyone! My April took a hit, but I'm ok with it. It went off the rails when my wife hurt her knee skiing. Being nurse husband and Mr. Mom for the house took precedence so the sleep and early morning swims especially suffered. I also did a one week taper to run Boston (great trip - tons of fun) and then another week to recover so all of my totals are down. However, I got in a marathon and there was definitely fitness and strength gained from that. I'm pretty close to back up to speed this week with good swims, runs, and rides. I've gotten them all in although I have had to move some around to different days. We had two days of gorgeous sunshine and high temperatures so I just had to get out there and ride. Man, it felt incredible. I've also ratcheted up the nutrition monitoring so I can shed the last few pounds to get to race weight and that is going well. The achilles injury from earlier this spring isn't causing me any more problems other than the occasional tight calf. I keep close tabs on it, but it I'm able to run normally, other than I haven't done any speed work yet. Overall, I'm happy with where things are at despite the bumps in the road and I'm looking forward to May's schedule. April totals Swim: 5 hours, 16 minutes; 15,050 yards Bike: 19:07; 329 miles Run: 12:00; 84 miles Walking (most during Boston recovery before I started running again): 5:47; 14.3 miles Strength: 50:00 (Wow, didn't realize it was that low. Definitely need to focus on that this month) Cheers! |

Some awesome April numbers in here. Mine are not what I was hoping for, I managed to re-injure my calf again half way through the month, was still able to bike but running was out for 2 weeks. I started running again this week but it is very slow and very short runs. My goal at this point is to make it to CDA without another calf issue and then just hold on for the run. Hoping I can get at least some run mileage in this month. Bike is looking okay and feeling good, swam the IM distance last week and it went well so pretty comfy there. I'm glad the weather is warming up here, I need to get in some OWS.
Swim: 23,550 Bike: 417.6 Run: 46.1
Really peeved about the run number. But I guess my choices are to make it worse and go to CDA injured or to be smart about it and try to rehab it between now and then. Gonna be a long marathon for sure. |

Veteran 190 Lakeville, Minnesota | Subject: RE: Ironman Coeur d'Alene : Official Thread I was able to stay pretty consistent this month but missed a few workouts here and there, The weather is finally starting to turn the corner here in Minnesota and I'm hoping to get outside for a ride. All of my bike training this year has been on the trainer.
Swim 39,700 meters Bike 581.5 miles Run 133.55 miles I was wondering about local places that might be cool to see or local places to eat...any recommendations? Not that it makes a big difference but I have a son with high functioning autism and we usually pick some place to eat that is casual and not super noisy. Another must is chicken strips or pizza...pretty much the only thing he will eat. Thanks in advance... Everyones training looks really solid. Stay healthy and train safe. |

I'm certainly dragging the ankle for the most part....and it's a bit uncomfortable, but it is therapeutic as far as working on getting some flexibility back. Without a kick to speak of, I'm a lot slower in the pool that's for sure! |

263 | Subject: RE: Ironman Coeur d'Alene : Official Thread Lake CDA is open for swimming! It's "officially" 50* and it was 80* out today. I was able to log a 1.2 mile, extra swim today. Full sleeve, cap and booties were a must for me. I almost forgot what it was like to take a wave to the face, while breathing... |

Extreme Veteran 494 Olympia, WA | Subject: RE: Ironman Coeur d'Alene : Official Thread Question for Spokane and Coeur d'Alene folks. Is there a relatively safe route to ride a bike from Spokane to CdA? Also, is there a place in the lake in CdA where a person can get in a decent length swim without being run over by boats or plans landing on the water? As I recall the swim area at the city beach is pretty small and I'm wondering if there is someplace bigger. I'm asking because we're headed over to Spoken on Memorial Day weekend and I might have a chance to ride over and/or get in a swim. Thanks, |

263 | Subject: RE: Ironman Coeur d'Alene : Official Thread Brad, the Centennial Trail goes from Spokane to CDA and is 99% protected from vehicles. As for swimming, there is a beach called Sanders Beach where they actually have distance bouys for swimmers. A lot of us swim there. I swim there for a 1.2 mile out and back with no real threat from a boat. |

Veteran 930 Morgan Hill, California | Subject: RE: Ironman Coeur d'Alene : Official Thread Raced Wildflower Half this weekend. Felt pretty strong most of the day. I think that will be a good training day for CdA. Bike has about 3500 feet of climbing on it, and its just constant rollers for most of it, and a big climb about mile 40. You'd think that would be it but there are several more climbs after that. Run as close to 1500 feet of climbing, its all up and down. Maybe 3 flat miles the whole time. But, I was able to run all but the longest, steepest climb, and one or two towards the end. All in about 90+ heat. I think benefit will be some good fitness. I wasn't fast, that is not a course for me to be fast on. But,feeling pretty good about where I am for CdA. |

Ouch! On Friday I attempted a 2.1 mile swim, 98 mile bike and 6 mile run. But like an idiot, I went way too hard on the bike and I couldn't run after. I guess I need to a couple more like that to figure out just what my effort limit is on the bike. If the weather is good on Friday then I'm going to drive up to Whistler for the day and try out the Ironman Canada course just for fun.
