gdale - 2010-07-12 9:30 PM Hello folks!

I am not as quick as some of you but here is my race report.

I traveled to Kentucky today for work and will be here until Wednesday.  I had hoped for a run tonight but wound up going to dinner with a co-worker instead.  Need to try to get up the next two mornings and run.

Looks like tons of great results from the weekend.

Ryan - sorry to hear about the fall but glad to hear that nothing is broken.  Heal fast!

Mark - congrats on the swim...it is great to see you hitting so many milestones.

Kyla - any turnip stories you would like to share???

Nah. I just ate my turnips one morning as a mid-morning snack. And felt really healthy doing it.

Tonight was a smashing success because my husband not only ate kohlrabi... but he said it was good!! Whoooop!!! I am bound and determined to turn my family into a bunch of healthy "rabbit-food" freaks. Well, not really, but it is fun to figure out what to do with some of the crazy things I get from my CSA. Safe travels, George!

HEY!

George--both of those kids look so proud....very cool pictures.  Congratulations to your wife too.  My dad had cancer and I know how tough that is on a family.

Sam--two words, "NO KIDS"....and I like to race, especially sprints where you go as hard as you can and don't have to worry about any nutrition along the way.  Plus with a 440y swim, I figure I can push a little harder than my "casual" pace.

Trevor--email me a picture like you did last time.

Another light day for me, only a swim on tap...haven't been in the pool in a LOOOOOOOOOOONG time.

gdale - 2010-07-12 9:54 PM Allow me a few family bragging moments...

Last week we were in the DC area to get Jeremy's prosthetic ear.  He was so happy to get it and has enjoyed showing it off.  He has also been thrilled not to have to wear a strap over the top of his head to hold his glasses up.  Here is a pic...

On Sunday, my middle son Tommy did his first Triathlon.  It was supposed to be 50 yard swim, 2 mile bike, .25 mile run.  Not sure all the distances were accurate because they were a little disorganized but Tommy had a great time.  He was pushing hard all the way...would have been first out of the water but was going in the wrong direction running up towards the beach.  I guess he has sighting issues just like his dad!  Here he is with his finishers medal...

There are a couple of more pics of Jeremy in my album and several more pics of both of them on facebook if you are interested.

Finally, my wife got the best news today.  Her father has been battling esophogus cancer for the past 9 months or so.  His treatments ended a couple of months ago and today he got the results of a PET scan that showed no signs of cancer!  He has been through a lot and it was great to hear that he is over the hump and on the road to recovery.

man this is so cool on all accounts.  AWESOME!!!!!

fattyfatfat - 2010-07-12 11:10 AM hey trev you see this

Weird story. The guy actually used to be part of our team a couple years ago. We got a note from our coach wondering if anyone has seen him. he supposedly was as our race last weekend, and now vanished....not sure what'll happen.

On an unrealted note, I went for a short run at luch todaydowntown around the river. Saw a body get pulled from the river. It was weird. seeing the yellow body bag and the stretcher for it. Crazy.

maybe they aren't unrelated.

so i get to the pool this morning.  water is cloudy, pumps aren't working very well and its colder than normal.  no big deal.  about 45 minutes in i start feeling a little sick.  it gets worse so i call it a day.  on the way out i ask this woman who was swimming with me if she feels weird.  yup.  so on my way out i stop by the front desk to let them know the pool is cloudy and the pumps don't appear to be working all that well.  the guys reply.  oh yeah.  some lady got sick in there last night and we were supposed to close the pool.

gdale - 2010-07-12 9:59 PM Hey Sam and Tony - do you guys know about Tri Team Z??  They were at our race this weekend and they had like 90 people there!  Some did the sprint, some did the half, some did both.  They had three huge tents, a huge cookout for the athletes, their own massage person, and lot of people chearing eveyone on.  There were people from the FOP to BOP.  Seemed like a nice group of people.

Yes - they are a tri team in our area - actually based in Arlington.  I think it's a great group and when they travel they travel big!  They went to Mooseman last year and had a huge set up.  In addition to coaching, they do lots of social stuff and planned group workouts.  Great for single people or DINKS!

Travel big is an understatement!  Yeah, you could tell they do a lot more than just race and work out together - seemed very friendly together.  There were some kids running around but not many so I could see it being singles and dinks.

sdalessio - 2010-07-12 9:50 PM Hi gang - still plugging away here.  :-)

Congrats to all the racers this past weekend.  Lots of hardware.

Ryan - glad you didn't break your collarbone although the shoulder still sounds painful.

Suzy - how on earth do you find the energy for all of your races!  ;-)

Tony's in OKC for the night.  We leave for MN in 3 days.  Driving w/ the kids.  Making a short stop in Chicago for some fun.  I think we both hope to get some nice workouts in while we are actually in MN.

Have a great week!

Where in MN you headed?  Weather has been good the past couple of days and looks like it is supposed to continue for a while.

It sure is a pain to watch the tour on DVR and try to ignore the news to stay surprised lol. What I dont get is all the people that talk trash about cycling. There are plenty of sports i dont like but I certainly respect the skill and complexity of each. Especially cricket, I dont think I am ever meant to understand that sport.

Hey swimming cap people.....last night in OW and this morning in the pool, I am doing my thing and realize my cap is sliding way back on my head.  If I wasn't wearing goggles it would float away I am sure....it's never happened before, but suddenly twice in a row...and two different caps....what am I doing wrong/differently?

I havent watched todays, I plan to tonight since my Hells Kitchen isnt going to be on. I love watching the tour, they really are insane. Lance has had some bad luck so that kinda sucks but with him retiring I need to find a new team to support next year. The cobblestones was still the most entertaining so far. Watching them climb in the alps makes my legs hurt
