Master 2202 Canton, Michigan | Subject: RE: Beach 2 Battleship : Official Thread trizoo - 2009-11-09 10:25 AM I am likely going to sign up for the 2010 B2B. Decided on this one vs. IMFL. I would be real interested in your feedback about the 2009 B2B. Did everyone like the event? Would this be a good race for a first Iron ? Thanks! It's a great race to race, but not so good for spectators. If you have family that will try traveling around it can become difficult since the battleship is isolated from town across the river. My wife was bummed she couldn't see the start and had limited areas to stand near the battleship for T2 due to a high water table from high tide. When I was running there were plenty of half families and participants riding or walking with all there bags along the run course to get back into town which is a couple of miles so the waits were pretty bad at some point for them. It was much improved from 2008 so maybe they'll get things setup even better for 2010. When I got done with the full the waits weren't bad but I didn't feel like hanging out as I didn't want to end up in a long wait so instead of cheering folks on from there we did it from our rental house that was right on the run course. Seemed to give some a lift because it's kinda lonely along that section. It seemed as though I was busier then I wanted to be on Friday due to the spread out nature of the course and traffic can be bad at times, so getting from Wilmington to Wrightsville gets to be a PIA, especially if your doing it multiple times. I liked the course overall as a racer, especially since it's not an IM event with 2500 + folks so drafting wasn't an issue on the bike and there were plenty of officials out there to keep things clean for the most part. I really can't stand blatant drafting which will happen when a course has to many participants. Overall though we really enjoyed Wilmington! The wife and I explored town on Sunday and Monday and had a great time as there are so many great places to eat and there's a lot of fun bars. We drank entirely to much but really enjoyed just being able to walk around. We plan on returning to Wilmington some day we really liked it that much. Edited by rottieguy 2009-11-10 11:46 PM |

Champion 34263 Chicago | Subject: RE: Beach 2 Battleship : Official Thread ONE OTHER THING! Who was the guy from `The Biggest Loser' being filmed? I heard the announcer mention that at the start. Was he really from TBL or was the announcer making a joke? The camera crew got in my way when I was putting my nutrition on my bike and when I asked them `excuse me please' the boom operator looked at me like I was in the way. I almost punched him because I was nervous and just needed to get my bike loaded. But he did move and they went to the other side of the rack, thankfully. |

I was like who cares if he is racing I am sure many people in that transition area had far more intresting stories to tell. I guess they just streching out his 15min of fame. I mean the one guy from TBL went to Kona this year and did not finish and we never heard another word about it afterwards or even his effort. Ohwell Edited by Livestrong191 2009-11-11 9:01 AM |

Ohwell Yeah that's who it was and my understanding is that they are doing a "where are they now?" type of special show for TBL and this will be his "update." And this guy actually did finish the race under the cut soooo....I might actually have to watch that show just to see mr2tony ready to punch the guy |

I was wondering if anyone else thought parts of the run course was too dark. The last bridge with no cars was bad. Yes, I agree it was way too dark. The race info said the run course was 100% lighted. It was not 100%!! I tripped at mile 17 near that dark park, and banged my knee up pretty bad. Esp being over 40, I have trouble seeing at night. And when I went over that last bridge, there were cars with headlights blinding me. A flashlight in run special needs bag would be a very good idea! |

I had one, but unfortunately I was not going fast enough to need it so I just kept it in my pocket except to look at my watch occasionally. I guess I should have handed it off to Carol and maybe she would not have fallen. |

My bike pic is decent, but my sherpas got a few REALLY good pictures of me grabbing the bike, and at the mount line. |

5 | Subject: RE: Beach 2 Battleship : Official Thread This was my first full IM and absolutley give it a big stamp of approval for your first one. Assuming (like most others doing their first) that the swim is the most concerning element, this one is straight and fast so the worst is over in about an hour. The bike is flat and also easy, the run was surprisingly tough with the bridges and hills in and out of town, but not brutal. race is well orchestrated and the location is very nice for a long w/e trip. |

I am pretty sure that I am going to sign up unless something unforeseen happens. BTW, I know this is a long shot and I have already email the race people, but somehow my Orca S1 wetsuit did not make it to bag pick up. If anyone hears anything about it, I would love to get it back as opposed to buying a new one. |
