I am behind in posting the balance of my September stats so I have nothing yet.  We are all going thru various stages of training that's bringing on fatigue and maybe some self-doubt is creeping in too, even for the vets who have done an IM before.  I want to post a couple of "thoughts" for keeping you in control of your mind, as written by Melanie McQuaid in a recent issue of Triathlete magazine:

Racing is a privilege, not an obligation or chore.  All negative thoughts about failing should pale in comparison to the opportunity to be at the starting line.  Worry less about the outcome and focus on having fun, no matter your race level.  Enjoy this moment in life when you're at this level of fitness and among this group of peers participating in an amazing event. You will find that by living in that moment, you will perfom at your best.

Focus on a breakthrough moment in your training.  Remember how good it felt to achieve and take confidence from that workout that you ARE prepared.  Keep reminding yourself that you are ready to ROCK!

Keep working hard and keep this one thought in your minds and that is the voice of Mike Reilly announcing that "You Are An Ironman!"

Lori.... "Ludicrous Speed!!!"

Good post TriBabe.  I needed it.

Okay, now don't laugh.  Here are my totals for September.

Run: 69 Miles

Bike: 348 Miles

Swim: 2500 meters

Basically, six weeks on the couch can really set you back.  I was hit by a minivan during a training ride and am working to avoid a DNS.  My neck, shoulders, and back are still screwed up.  In early September, the doc's finally gave me the go-ahead to train but limited to anything that doesn't "really hurt".   I did do one or two swims in August also, but I could barely tie my shoes the day after. Running and biking are better.  I am starting to rebuild.

Next week, I will try for two swims in one week.  I am, however, still hopeful.  I had a pretty good base before the accident and I don't mind finishing significantly slower than my earlier expectations.

Thanks Phatknot, you too.  I think you went through a similar period of time with a bad injury.  Now you are back to kicking butt.

So, 50 days to go!

Thanks again. This past week of training for me I think is a great example of the two keys to IM training: Quantity and Quality. It's important to keep a balance between the two, go long when it's time to go long, go short and hard when it's time to go short and hard. Everything in between is just maintenance work.

I had my third century ride this weekend, and one thing is for certain...I am consistently slow.

But if there's any wind, I'll be ready for it. (Speaking of which...just how windy is it in November out there?)

I'll be vying for the slowest bike split amongst all BTers...so WATCH OUT!

Seriously. I'll be thrilled to roll in right at 8 hours...but it'll be more like 8:15-8:30 I imagine. Goal #1 for the race is simply to make the bike cutoff.

Not as bad as April! It can be breezy and likely will be out on the BeeLine, but it's not too bad. It will be chilly in the am.

I hear ya on the wind....I was out for 4 hours on my bike in 30 MPH winds!!  I was on the shoulder and suddenly was blown more than 2 feet over into the middle of the road!

everyone is looking good.. Hoping to get my Sept stats up this weekend..  I know, we are in October..  I was excited about the brick I just did this past Saturday... Had 6 hr ride/2:30 run.. Got in 83 miles for the ride and 12 miles for the run for a total of 95 miles in 8:45, after adding in some "T1" time.. I was proud of that after a brat with onions, kraut and potato salad and 32 oz of beer at Octoberfest Friday night.. So, major potty stop at mile 3 on the run but felt much better after that.. Have a 7 hr ride for Saturday and will run the local Long Beach, CA 1/2 Marathon on Sunday for training.. We are getting close now, aren't we?!

Lori..  "You want me to put WHAT on my saddle sores????"

I am planning on getting the red-white-blue bracelets with IMAZ 2009 deboossed on them ordered this week. Going to order 200 total (125 large, 50 medium, and 25 child). Price drops almost in half at 200 versus 100, so while we don't need that many gives us some extras to give out to friends, family, etc. Along with the particpants, I think it'd be great to have the BT volunteer crews with them too so we can give an extra shout out for the help. Should have them delivered in a couple weeks, and will plan on distributing the majority at the pre-race get together, or people can stop by the host hotel on Saturday and I'll have them. Don't mind mailing a few out as well worst case.

I don't have time to coordinate the T-shirt's, if anyone can do this it'd be great.
