Yes my Y has a no video of swimmers policy but I probably can find a way around it.blbriley - 2012-10-09 3:55 PM Now all I need is some video and a thick skin and we'll be ready to go.
^Indeed! I may talk to the Y and see if they will make an exception to the "no phones/electronics" rule if I come in extry early. I'd like to see what my stroke *actually* looks like vs. what I *think* it looks like. Hey - best of luck for your SO...have a great time - it's a beautiful place. If you have a chance after the race is over - lots of great stuff to see - the volcano is really cool. I chatted with the manager at the City pool where I go and we were able to come to a reasonable arrangement. Like you, I'm not swimming right now, but I'd love to participate later. Great run for me today, though! Weather was perfect. |

Great run for me today, though! Weather was perfect. A few years ago three of us talked to the pool manager at our pool and explained that we just wanted video of us swimming. There was no problem when we showed what we wanted. He gave the lifeguards a heads up for that morning. That's where my avatar photo came from. Not so great run for me at lunch. Still sick. |

Champion![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() FWIW pretty much every pool I've ever been in has had a no video policy and I've never had a problem talking to staff and getting permission to record athletes. often when booking lanes, I'll request a gutter lane for video purposes. ![]() I'm pretty sure my YMCA would also have a no video policy, but our masters coach who works with the slowest 2 lanes takes video at every practice. Speaking of which, I should talk to him to get him to take some video of me. |

Pro![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() My running is getting off to a slow start. Last week I started having hip pain again so I took a break from BarryP for 4 days. I went for a 10 min run tonight and felt ok, so I'm going to try and start again only cut back the time a bit. Baby steps. I'm also doing a good bit of core work. I know some ppl don't think it's necessary but as long as I'm doing things correctly, don't see how it can hurt. |

Pro![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Fred D - 2012-10-10 9:03 PM Yeah ihave been a heavy consumer of health care resources this past year. Initially dx as stress fx but bone scan neg. Seeing a physiatrist who thinks pain is due to disc issues. L4 L5. Annular tear on MRI. I've been rehabbing a long time. PT/ART and 2 epidurals this summer which provided pretty good pain relief. Frustrating. I'd love for them to be wrong and it be piriformis. Which is a good reminder, my BarryP modification also includes a daily date with the foam roller. kcarroll - 2012-10-10 9:02 PMMy running is getting off to a slow start. Pretty common in runners. Been checked out for the hip pain? |

Do you believe the race played a big part in it ? Would it have probably been avoided had you not raced ? |

Champion![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() marcag - 2012-10-11 4:28 AM I think it played a significant role in the progression to pneumonia. High exertion is known cause some level of immunologic compromise, on top of the fact that race day was a bit cool and the repeated irritation of my assumed already influenza infected chest probably took its toll. Its relatively rare for a young, healthy person without asthma, smoking, etc to wind up with bilateral pneumonia. The option that would explain that is H1N1 because it is known to have particularly devastating effects to the lungs but I think it is more likely a rampant secondary bacterial infection as evidenced by the green gunk I've been getting out. And my chest X-ray is the first bilateral pneumonia I've ever seen in someone less than 50 who didnt have some level of immunocompromise or history of lung pathology. Not that i have a ton of experience but Ive only seen small pneumonias in young people. Looking back: stupid decision to race. I'm paying for it now....axteraa - 2012-10-11 5:09 AM mndymond - 2012-10-10 9:34 PM So not to beat a dead horse about the activity+fever stuff, but: I ended up in emergency today because of shortness of breath and diagnosed with bilateral pneumonia. Do you believe the race played a big part in it ? Would it have probably been avoided had you not raced ? Excellent to know. So in my ethics test I will answer "yes, the coach should tell his athlete not to race if fever present". That was actually a question. Cool. Want to help me with the question on the ethics of doping or should I ask lance ? :-) |

Do you believe the race played a big part in it ? Would it have probably been avoided had you not raced ? I'll actually remember this as a take away. Sometimes it makes more sense to not HTFU and instead accept that there will be other days to race. Obviously a difficult choice for any of us given how much time and effort (and expense) is invested in getting ready for races. Hope you start to mend quickly. |
