First week of holding steady. No loss, but still at 125 lbs. Trying to not feel too bummed about it. The real challenge begins today - I'm heading out of town for my grandma's funeral, and that means eating on the road (9 hr road trip), staying at my parents' house (they always eat out or have frozen/processed foods only), and dinners out with the family.

I'm going to try my best to do the following:

- Make healthy choices as much as possible (hard to do at Chinese restaurants, which is where we'll be eating family style - which means the elders order and the younger generation eats what the elders have chosen)

- Slow down! Try to let my brain register I've eaten enough

- Listen to my body, am I really hungry? Do I need to eat everything or just a small, appropriate portion.

- drink lots of water, even if that means lots of potty stops on I-90!

Ugh, wish me luck! Any other on-the-road tips? I hate being away from my kitchen and food scale!

First very sorry about your loss. Yes taking some helthy options for the road are the best way make sure you stay on tract. My philosophy on eating out is I still do it but make the best choice and eat smaller portions and fill up on water before the meal gets there!! Safe travels

Bring your own snacks. Go to the store and buy cut up veggies if you need to. Order salads with dressing on the side in restaurants. Pass on the rice. Be strong.

Sorry about your Gramma.

Thanks, packing some snacks for the car and decided to bring my food journal to log even though I won't know calories. It'll at least bring awareness to what I have eaten.

"Pass on the rice" though...hmmmmm, you know I'm asian?

Okay, then small serving(s) (notice the plural)! I would rather eat the rice than anything else.

Mitzi: I completely relate to that image in the mirror issue. Yikes, right? We're going to change that.

Don: Nothing motivates like spandex!

GreenMtn: I'm sorry for the loss of your grandma. Small portion of rice?

Cbost: Congrats on a nice loss! Enjoy the trail run. Beautiful area.

Steady week for me which is ok considering a complete change had me braced for a gain. I'll take a zero and be content with that.

"People used to give me a hard time about wearing a biking kit etc. My response was "hey you want some motivation to work hard and get in shape.....dress yourself in spandex from head to toe."

I love triathletes!

Ran another 6.4mi today. I didn't PR, but I was within 4 minutes. I'm consistently turning close to 1hr 10K times now, so I'm cool with it.

ZOMG

Thrilled!

And I just hit register for my first HIM in September - pretty certain that the butterflies in my stomach right now will burn off a few pounds.

No weigh in, but I have something much better.  I went to see my chiropractor for the first time in over 2 months weighing the same.  Before then, we had been having conversations about weight loss so he asked if I was still working on my weight and I said yes.  He asked how much I had lost since I saw him last and I said I hadn't lost anything.  A look of shock came across his face and he said, 'Really?'  He was surprised and said that it looked like I had lost quite a bit of weight.  I guess the training is paying off by toning me up.  Reminded me yet again that the number on the scale is just a number and progress can be shown in different ways.  Yay me

Oh yeah, I was down to 225 this morning.  My pre-holiday weight!

We're just looking forward to March 1st!

On a different note...

I dropped another 9 miles on the Shoe Leather Express today. I'm starting to shoot for legitimately running an entire 10K.  Up to this point, I tend to run for 500 to 1000 left foot strikes, then I walk for 50 left foot strikes.  I know it isn't the best way to get the job done, but... count the PRs over the last couple weeks!  :-)

219 this morning, down from last week but don't know how!?!? I've been eating everything in sight this week. I haven't been able to run in a week due to a leg issue so I'm really shocked that I'm not up another lb or two. Don't understand how I'm down.....oh well I'm taking it anyway!

Weights the same, but getting into the workout mode. Running two miles on treadmill - OK I walk three times and the speed is more like a jog, but I'll take it.
First race is a 5k so it's a focus - also just to get into shape. Sweating like a pig on the stationary for 30 mins - going to start adding 5-10 mins a session.

Don, know that you couldn't do your burpie challenge but found two exercises that might be fun.
plank with an added row and medicine ball push ups (alternating which hand is on the ball) I found them hard, but wouldn't mind a challenge to keep with them.

So after my first week of tracking food over on myfitnesspal, my official Monday morning weigh in has me at 199.5 pounds!  That's down ~5 pounds in one week...  Too much, yes, but I think it's just the initial shock of my body not getting the crap between meals that it is used to.  I kept my intake around 1200-1500 cal's/day which I know is on the low side, but it seemed like plenty.  I wasn't going hungry or starving myself or anything.  Curious to see what happens this week.

Was poised to hit another milestone (breaking under 185lb) on Friday then the wheels fell off.  Vendor supplied pizza and pop for lunch.  Weekend diet wasn't much better.  Up 1.5lb this morning but back on track.  I'll break the barrier by Friday.

I saw very similar results when I started logging everything, paying attention to what was going on, and making smarter decisions about what I was choosing to eat.  The trend carried on much longer than I anticipated.

I had originally planned on droping 1 to 1.5 lbs. per week.  However, I dropped 40 lbs. in 14 weeks which averages a little under 3 lbs. a week.  I then went on to drop another 15-20 lbs. to my current weight over the following 12 weeks.  And since that time I have remained stable at this weight with one exception.

I thought I had the whole healthy eating thing figured out.  So I stopped logging what I ate.  I didn't pay as much attention as I had been to what, or how much I ate.  Then I steeped on the scale about 8 - 10 lbs. heavier.  That was my wake up call.  Since then I haven't missed to many days of meal logging.

Congrats on the progress.

On another note went to a total immersion swimming workshop over the weekend.  Spent two days in the pool and studying film of my stroke and learning alot about swimming dynamics.  I found it very helpful.  Already feel better about swimming.  I still have a lot of fine tuning to do on my stroke to get me there, but they have already made it a lot easier.  I know where to work now and plan on seeing more improvement to come.

welcome to all the new folks

Ron had me in a timeout so I could not post -

gained 2 last week (not surprising since I was low from the colonoscopy prep) hoping to be back to losing this week

and yes, myfitnesspal rocks - I also use national chain stuff when estimating - or even other pubs....

I agree about the logging thing - I used to log on the weekdays, but since I would cheat one of the weekend days, I didn't bother. Not terribly successful that way.

Now I log even when I know it's going to be ugly...at least it makes me recognize the ugliness. (Doesn't stop me...but at least it's in black & white the next day.)

x Whatever.  Last year I was down to 137.  I stopped logging over the summer and ballooned back to 155-157.  Now I am working to lose it AGAIN with logging.

Finally saw the scale moving in the right direction this week!  I'm down about 6 pounds for the last three weeks. I'm back to where I was when I quit running due to my calf tear.  Now it's time to lose the 20 I started out to lose when the injury happened.

Bad thing is that I am going to a conference for work in Phoenix next week and it will be very hard not to indulge!  And I won't have my bike or my pool!  I will have my running shoes though!

Usually start recording food and then drift off as the day goes by and then forget what I ate. I'm inspired to get back to it.
Logging food on fitday.com and will keep a small spiral bound notebook on me to jot down what I eat - don't have a smart phone.

I wish I could be one of those people that logs food religiously. I'm like you momma. I'm good for a couple of days and then I forget. And I eventually give up. I've got My Fitness Pal set up but have only ever logged one or two days. Since everyone is jumping on the bandwagon I guess I will, too.

It takes a while, the longer you do it, the easier it gets. I am so in the habit that I have a note pad that I write on when I am away from my computer (no phone app) and log them later, sometimes days later. I started because I wanted to see my macro and micro nutrients to make sure I was getting enough. Caloriecount does a good job on that, it tracks 20 or so nutrients.
