Pretty much entry level all around but gives me a good base to build on in the future.  Got out for a short test ride today and it felt great.  Need to get out for a longer ride soon but might not happen until next weekend.

>Got new tires Conti Attack/Force. Hope they will feel better than my old tires. However, I totally neglected to ask the LBS, can these tires be used for recreational long distance riding? They have a much lower PSI than my old ones, and I'm a little bit paranoid about the 22 in the front and 24 in the back (Can I still use my 700x23c tubes, or do I really have to buy two different size tubes?

The Conti A/F combo is a good choice! No problem riding them for racing or for training of any distance. You'll be fine with the 23c tubes, no need to change there.

kickitinok - 2010-04-02 9:25 PM Good to know I'm not all alone in the sprint at Lonestar!

Also good to know that others use the Look Keo's. I am very impressed with them. Their litmus test is tomorrow during my "long" ride. It's going to be a rural ride - my first. I'm very excited. Tired of dodging broken glass and used hypodermics.

Thanks for the advice on running with the arch inserts, Kim. I sincerely hope they work. Huge bummer is that I have to tape my feet before every run. That's going to cut into my T2 time like mad. I wonder if I could get away with running the race without tape....

NO WAY ARE YOU GONNA BE ALONE!!!!!   just sent you a pm.  party planner...ok s/b/r/ drink.  thats about it.

There is a another picture in my album where you can see the reflection of the basketball hoop on the garage door.  Funny thing is, I noticed it right after I took the pciture and thought for sure someone would point it out so I moved the bike and took another!!

Very cool bike George.

Welcome Corey.   You can also pick up nice workouts by checking in on everyone's workout logs.  Most people put pretty detailed descriptions of what they did.  Ask them lots of questions - since we are all so shy about talking about our workouts.

WELCOME BACK ANDY!!   I was getting worried.

Thongs - from a woman's perspective, I don't get it.  For me the whole point of underwear is to keep it OUT of my butt.  The only time I wore thongs was during cheering when I was constantly in a state of wedgie so I reasoned thongs at least reduced the amount of material.

LOOK KEOS ROCK!

Yes, I sent my Doug and Tony off riding together this morning. Don't know if this was a good idea or not. What do you think Sam?

John, that was too funny!  I'll be sure to ask if they had that conversation.

Welcome back Andy! It's good to see you here!

Welcome to the group, Corey! I concur on the BT plans, even the free time based ones are good and give you some structure to follow. Just click programs at the top of the site and you can browse what's available.

Thanks everyone for the Maui tips! I can't wait to experience it all!

Totally a thong girl myself. I figure that's where they end up anyway. So, why not just put them there to begin with... never have to pick a wedgie again

Have a great weekend everyone!

How did we get on the thong topic??? Did Trevor share his favorite brand? ....me, I am a Hanky Panky girl myself....Tracy, I bet if you ever tried a pair you would never go back...

So CT people, I need help.  I got up at the crack of stupid today to get that four hour ride done and spent over an hour trying to get the course to play.....it would build the track, but when I went to hit "race now", it shut down the file and took me back to my desktop.  Did this about 8 times before I felt like throwing it out the window....instead I laced up my shoes and did my run....but I still gotta this dang ride tomorrow....HELP ME!

Bikini girl, here...no thongs need apply...not a fan of the wedgie.

Suzy- I occasionally have that happen.  It's the most frustrating thing.  What I have found is that if I go back to racermate and download the course again, it gets me to the opening (start race).
Then I erase the one that wouldn't load.  I haven't used it enough to recall if I've had to do that more than once to the same course.

I can't seem to load the course from the pull down menu that they provide, I always have to browse and then pick a course from my downloaded courses...which is so frustrating, too!

Where are you loading from?

I was trying to load from the main course menu which has always worked in the past. I finally gave up and backed up my performances, uninstalled the software and reinstalled it....it works, but a lot of wasted time.  Very frustrating.

How are you feeling?

Still sick! I had to take the day off from work today so I don't infect my patients.  And we had to cancel Easter brunch at our house tomorrow.  Ugh.

Resting and drinking fluids...

So, since we are on the topic of CT, can everyone just load from the main pull down menu?  Is there something I am missing?  I actually think I can do some of the courses but not the majority from there.

LOL, luckilly I had the "supposed to ride in this wattage range" crutch or I would be in serious pain if I tried to keep up with Doug all day, he can put up some serious wattage out there.  Also didn't help that I can't seem to take a full breath with all this tree pollen in the air.  We went up some small hills today and I felt (and probably sounded) like I had just smoked a carton of cigarettes.

Actually riding with a stronger rider was great, normally in a ride/race I see someone up ahead I want to catch and or pass them, today I just rode my watts, caught up at turns or in some flat sections.  Need to figure out how I am supposed to deal with hilly rides using power as my gauge.  I ride up a hill and push 350+ watts then get to the top and supposed to go down at around 200 watts, 175 - 211 is the tempo zone I am supposed to ride in for doing HIM type rides.

We had a great time, some sketchy roads here and there, plus we both looked at the elevation profiles and thought it was going to be a pretty flat day but ended up being lots and lots of hills, nothing overly long but lots of quick steep stuff.

Though Tracy I was showing him all the aero stuff I had, helping him out with some ideas : )

You guys have fun with the million other folks today at the tidal basin.

Where exactly are you talking about pulling courses from?

There are 2 buttons, one for setting up your info and the other for picking your course.  When you push the one for picking a course a pop-up should list all the courses you have loaded on the pc.

Oh Kim that just sucks!!! What are your symptoms? Just a nasty cold? I have a cold again as well -- my second in about as many months. Spent about a year cold-free... I'm sure some of the stress on my body has something to do with it. I skipped a run today (but got in a trainer ride). Curious: What do most of you do training-wise when you're not feeling 100%? How do you decide when to back off/skip workouts?

Me, I usually follow the "above the neck/below the neck" rule and go from there. I try to determine the level of the planned workout and if I can modify it at all do get some training in but not tax my body too much. And nowadays I also ask my coach (who, with my last cold was pretty conservative and had me doing light trainer rides but not running).

I think the thong discussion is my fault due to my chafing after my long trainer ride. So be warned, Suzy!! And when I say "thong," I really mean Hanky Pankies -- they are much more comfy than thongs. Usually I'm a bikini gal, but some of my oh-so-cute-and-comfy sweats are a little snug and Hanky Panks mean no panty lines.

PEDALS: Wow! Lots of Look riders out there. I've had my old SPDs on my road bike, which are fine per my fitter, but when I get a new bike (still shopping) he suggested Looks or Ultegras. I whined to him that I did not want pedals that inserted on one side only and couldn't I please try the Speedplays (which a girlfriend rides and loves), but he feels the bigger surface area is better for power transfer (or something like that). Because I consider his opinion to be sacred, I'm choosing between Looks and Shimanos. How do you choose?? I've done reading/research and it sounds like both are good options and people are passionate about each. Any of you more advanced riders have experience with both and can you comment?

GEORGE: Thanks for the bike porn!! Love the new ride! Can't wait to see it all tricked out (cages, etc.). Let us know how she rides!!

Kyla: I started with SPDs and loved the double sided aspect, but when I started having some foot issues I switched to Shimano DAs which had a bigger surface area, and then to TIME.  I love my TIME pedals, but honestly I still miss the double sided aspect.  No matter what you still have to look down to clip in.  If you decide to go with Shimano be warned they can be a little slippery when they get wet.....

Tony: Nice job on the ride today.  I think riding with someone better than you really helps you push the envelope.

Twin: Feel better, huh? Aren't you leaving for Hawaii soon?

Went out today and rode the bike course for my sprint tri on 6/5. Then I got bored so I loaded the truck back up and drove to the site of the BASF Smile Train sprint Tri and rode that course. Lots of wind. My wife called on my cell phone when I was 4 miles from the end. It was weird to suddenly hear the Indiana Jones Theme music out of nowhere (My ring tone for my wife). I also lost my chain once. Very odd.

Doug

Oh my pool is 70F degrees today. Looks like I have to soak the wetsuit and try it out. I have a sprint 4/18 and it is 750 yds in a lake in Raleigh.

Kyla-my symptoms have been congestion and runny nose, achy joints but today not really nearly as achy, so I think it is going away now.  I haven't been sick in so long, I decided to just completely take a rest from all training...especially with achy joints!

And the fact that I just finished the big race, I have a little cushion this week to rest and get better.

I think if I feel good tomorrow morning, it will be trainer ride only...coach concurs. My schedule for this week was mostly easy recovery stuff.

Suzy, sadly, Hawaii is not until the end of May.  In the meantime, and on the bright side, it is our birthday month!

I love all the thong talk. keep it up ladies.

I went out today for my first real outdoor ride of the year. It was 4c(39F). left my house and it was really nice and calm. When I got out to where I was going to ride, it was WINDY. It made for a really cold ride. I ended getting 60k in. Toes were frozen. face was frozen. Rode the first half in 1:20. 2nd half was 1:05. Big difference riding into the wind. 40k/h winds were not fun. But got it in.

Nice day, good ride this morning, did some yard work, making BBQ sauce  for some ribs I'll be cooking here in a few, and having a nice cold beer.  My daughter is at a play date and my son is outside trying to burn paper with a magnifying glass...

Does it get any better than this?
