Julia,  I think there's a few of us here on the mg that need some run coaching?  Got any free time?  LOL

I'm no coach, but Kyla asked me how I've been training, so I'll just respond here. I've been drinking the "run more to run faster" Kool Aid that some of the experienced runners pass around on the general boards. After some injuries and disappointing marathon results, I started running more frequently (5-6x per week instead of 3-4x per week) when I was training for a fall marathon last year. It worked pretty well, so this year I've been trying to maintain at least 35 mpw spread out over 5-6 runs. Nothing like Terps volume, but it's a good goal for me. I never try to hit a particular pace on a training run, I just run according to how I feel. Most of my runs are at an easy effort, but I'll run a little faster when my legs feel springy or when the weather is especially nice. I don't do any dedicated speed work, but I race frequently and I'll throw in a TT or hard tempo run when I haven't raced for awhile. I think the more frequent running has decreased my recovery time, made me less prone to injury, and improved my running form and endurance, and all that is starting to add up to faster races. It's taken some time, though.

This is just what I've been doing, and I wouldn't push it on anyone who likes to train a different way.

Wanted:  Running Coach

RR is up......

As I said over there, I think you are way too hard on yourself!!That said, I am coming off a week where I spent the better part of every run feeling like crap on a stick. It really was bugging me (still is). I've spent a lot of time today just reading this, that, and the other about run training. Can't say I have any answers... Some thoughts for myself (like, even though I don't plan to race I need to think about a little structure cuz that's how I roll). And just remember, this is all supposed to be fun!!! Even the crazy cyclocross peeps!!! :)Steve, you gonna share any of your photos from today??

Wasn't a great day.  Not too much action.  Dry and non technical course made for a sort of boring day (from a photographers' perspecitve)... Here is what I got.  http://averymckenna.smugmug.com/Sports/Cycling/Seattle-Cyclocross-Marymoor/19218605_fnr3D9#1498961223_BpW8pKD

My race report is up, but my work computer will not let me post a link. Cry Here are my additional notes from my trip.

I made it home from NY. I have to say that I do not think President Obama's plan to create jobs by fixing the roads and bridges will work. It seems like they are already fixing every road between NC and Long Island! The only place without an orange cone is my driveway!

Between the rain, the repairs and the roads, going up took almost 12 hours! I had a great time seeing my oldest and best friend. We have known each other 41 years now. Just wish the visit was longer. For you Massachusetts members, there is a Herrell's Ice Cream store in Huntington Long Island (started by Steve Herrell of Steve's Ice Cream fame!)

I grew up in Huntington Station so it is always good to visit. However, it is really weird to mix that culture and the New York accent with triathlon. "You got yah wada?" Three ladies in transition are talking and one says "Where's your Joe?" the next woman replies "He was here a second ago, wheres your Joe?" "He's in da car" and she turns to the third woman"Wheres your Joe?" The some other lady screams out "Hey BOBBY?!" It was like Real Housewives of New York meets Jersey Shore.

The women not racing were a trip. Lots were wearing earrings the size of satellite dishes. One woman was in her 60's and dressed like a 20 year old. She did not pull the look off. Her over-tanned, wrinkled midrift with some weird navel peircing jewelry looked really odd. That added to her badly dyed blond hair and giant hoola-hoop earrings made me sure she had never heard the phrase "aging gracefully." At least her low riding pants did not say "Juicy on the back!

That is the reason I had to move from southern Virginia back to New York 7 years ago.  Once the kids came, the drive got unbearable.  With or without construction (usually with!) you could not leave at a time that allowed you to miss traffic.  You either hit it in DC, Baltimore, NJ, at the bridges or on LI.  Terrible!

And as a former Longuylander, I can totally relate to the rest of your post!

There are always rumors about the best athletes...until I see concrete proof I don't believe any of that crap.  Can't someone just be an amazing athlete without people questioning they must be doing something illegal?

So what does everything think about her chances of actually racing Kona?  she looks pretty beat up to me.  I hope she's in, but still....

PS. Good luck Linda.  I think you're wise for going to the doc and probably even wiser watching from outside that third coral. As Dino always says to me, eye on the prize....you have a lot going on this year.

Agree on the toes.  She is still going to crush the course and the competition after that crash.  Rumors (aka "rumours" for those of you speaking the Queen's English) I don't believe.   She has already given samples for one drug test (per her twitter messages).

I am bummed. I am racing this saturday, but then have to go to Munich sunday 10/2 and do not return until 10/12. Ironman World Championships are the weekend I am away and with the time difference it will be nearly impossible for me to follow it. This year I have 2 friends (#'s 752 and 919) racing and it would have been a real blast to watch their progress on line.

So I guess your approach is too assume everyone is guilty until proven innocent?  Helluva way to go through life.  Call me an optimist or naive I still believe people can train hard,  be stellar performers without being accused of using drugs.

Awesome! If you really  want to make Mike's (#752) day make a sign that reads "Mike #752: Your Mom is watching and she is very proud!" His mother just passed away and I know it has been hard to deal with the sorrow and also the joy of racing this probably once-in-a-lifetime race.

Cid (#919) had raced this before and probably will again, but he said it never et old and looks like a little kid when he talks about it.

I checked the rim is still actually straight.
