SSMinnow - 2010-04-06 12:25 PM Hey DJ--a lot of tri tops have built in shelf bras....the only time I ever look "nippy" is when I am really hot or really cold...

Bike people, I have a question....is there any reason why a DA derailleur would not work well with Ultegra componentry?  Just installed the DA on my Seven that didn't work for the GURU and the shifting stinks......ideas?

Yeah, but I've seen so many "nippy" girls! I would be EMBARRASSED to even have a picture of something like that showing up in race photos. Why not prevent it from happening? A friend of mine who does Triathlons, every picture has it, and I'm just kind of shy. :-) I know everyone got boobs and stuff, but there's some things that I just rather hide if I can. :-)

As for the DA/Ultegra - I honestly don't see why not they wouldn't work. I've seen many people's bike with both of these components. I've seen DA derailleur with everything else Ultergra.

Maybe you need to adjust the shifters? There should be a knob. If the shifting jumps down, you turn the knob towards the bike (counterclockwise), and it jumps up, it's clockwise. If it still stinks, best bet is to have your bike guy adjust it. I may be totally wrong, but I've seem a whole mixture of DA/Ultegra (hell even DA with Tigra).

What kind of components do you have for the GURU, and why didn't it work?

jvanis - 2010-04-06 8:07 AM Question about Look Keos then since we have a high population of users.  Do they hang with the back end down, I know the Shimanos are weighted toward the back so all you do is push the toe in and then step down, are the Looks weighted similarly?  I am just about to pull the trigger on a set.  What lines does everyone use?  I am probably looking towards the Keo 2 Max, dont think I can justify the carbons.

I have the Keo Max Carbons and really like them!  Bigger platform than the original Keo's which I have on my road bike and less numbness/no hot spot.  I got mine for 139 at probikekit.com...just checked and they are 145 but out of stock.  The Keo 2 Max is probably just fine, I think they are 107 there.  And yes, they hang down the same way, back end down.

What version of DA and what version of Ultegra

I have DA 7800 Front and Rear Derailleurs, Ultegra 6600 cranks & Ultegra 6600 Casssette and they work fine together.

I believe 7900 (the new stuff) isn't as cross compatible as the old stuff.

Looking at this chart (which isn't the easiest thing to read)

http://bike.shimano.com/publish/content/global_cycle/en/us/index/tech_support/tech_tips.download.-Par50lparsys-0025-downloadFile.html/01)%20Drivetrain%20Compatability%20Chart.pdf

If your DA is 7900, it will only work with other 7900 components, at least on the front.

Bad shifting could also just be derailleur isn't adjusted correctly though.

That's totally me. But I have nothing to justify wearing a sports bra AND a tri top (Suzy outed her 34B-ness... I'm 34-36 but not quite A, poor little me [I don't mind]). Anyway, I HAVE found that wearing patterned tops helps with the headlights, but for me they are there when I run and that is that.

PEDALS: So both Looks and Shimanos hang down to make it easier to clip in? I am still deciding between Look and Shimano for my new bike (and still deciding on THAT but I am close, very, very close...). I bought a set of Ultegra pedals, but might also pick up some Looks and have my fitter help me decide (he suggested both of those).

And Suzy... I have had a BUST/BOMB of a week so far, LOL!!! I'm not down, HONEST -- just seems like nothing is going right on the training front just yet, other than I am getting the workouts done and I feel happy. Let's see, bike ride from hell (as you saw with FB pics), including two flats, rain, hail, wind, the works; swim that did not feel like I wanted it to; run where I forgot my water/Infinit -- I feel like I have early-onset Alzheimer's this week, LOL. But seriously, I'm happy all over and it's all good!! We have good days and bad days but hey, I am thankful just to have days and a wonderful body that can do what I ask of it.

Wow, I could have wrote this very post!  Although I am a little on the petite side, I like wearing a sports bra as my heart rate strap stays put, and for my tri top(s), I prefer the type with no bra insert (too much material...chafing!)  I am in the market for a new one...all of my tri pics show me with the same sugoi wahine top!

Kyla, you did great yesterday and btw, we would all love to hear about your bike buying saga...what else do I have to do now that I am back at the office!  I vote for LOOK pedals!

ME!!!  I haven't said that since November 7th.  Doing a 50K relay with three other people....5 loops of an arboretum in Madison.  I am doing two of them....I am capped at Z2 to ensure I don't blow myself apart and reinjure my foot, but who cares???? I get to be out there.

This race is actually an Ultra Championship.  Some of the best ultra marathoners will be there doing 100K...10 loops of a fairly hilly course.  It really is something to watch.  And the weather is supposed to be perfect.

I am excited too!  I am doing the Gateway to the Bay tri (sprint) on Saturday.  The weather outlook is promising, though it might be in the 40's on Saturday morning during the swim.....hopefully the winds will be calmer by then too.

No racing for me this weekend.  Last big training weekend - 4 1/2 hr. brick on Sat. and 1 hr 45 min run on Sunday.

LOL - just looking at the weather and it's 15 degrees warmer here than in Texas.  The Tri Gods are shining on us and helping us East Coast folks get acclimated early to warm temps.  We have a good chance of setting a record high.  Supposed to hit 90 this afternoon.

Oh oh pick me...... Running a 10K on sunday....Supposed to do a 3mile warmup!! cmon!!! Supposed to have an amazing brunch after. I am totally going to PR it- the run not the brunch.
Saturday is planned to be a 90k ride. But looking at the forecast it may be 2 1/2hrs on the trainer instead.

Hi Gang I see that another mentor winter session is over and we are in the archives again.

Just a quick hello to all to let you know I am still alive up here and training for the upcoming season. We had a great swim workout last night. (These will be even better once we can get out into the lake.) Anyway we started with a 1000 m warm up. There were no lanes ropes so we did get a little more chop than usual. The best part was after the warm up the group (about 25 people) got together at one coner of the pool and set out on a continuous 20 minute swim around the outside edge of the pool. It gave us a bit of a race feeling as there we were bumping and thrashing in the water with the group. Of course this was a typicallyy polite Canadian "race". No fights, no swimming over top of anyone, no drowing and no sexual harassment suits at the end,  although I am closer friends with a couple of the women now  actually maybe a couple of the guys too but I don't like to think about that.
