Artemis - 2008-06-16 8:28 AM I <3 chainlove. I got Look Keo carbon pedals for $119. They're like $260 at Performance. Yeah!!
That's so tempting. I want to get a new set of pedals to replace the SPD's I've got on my bike, but I haven't done enough research. What's the opinion on these pedals?

I have Keos on my road bike and I love them.  They are very easy to use.  You can get different cleats depending on how much float you want - I usually use the red ones with 9 degrees.  My husband has Speedplays and has more problems getting in and out of those than I do with the Keos.  Just make sure you tighten the cleat screws before you ride...especially when they are new.

Thanks for the advice and the heads-up. Hopefully the put some tri-shoes on there next so I can ditch the mountain bike shoes I'm using now.

Morning.

So I've read the race report, but the real question is: What did you think of the mess that is Iowa these days? I was really impressed with the conditions in the park considering the flooding everywhere else.

chadtower - 2008-06-16 10:20 AM I'm still using platform pedals.

Once you ride a bike with clipless pedals you'll never switch back. I got on a friend's bike a few weeks ago, that had platform pedals, and I could barely ride it. My feet kept coming off of them cuz I'm so used to being able to 'pull' as well as 'push'.

I rode my Mtn bike to the beach and it has "hybrid" pedals.  SPD clipless surrounded by a platform, so you can use either way.

I rode in my sandals and it just felt really weird to not have to twist my foot to get off the pedal.  It was especially strange when I had to climb the bridge and couldn't use the upstroke for power.

Yeah, not really into the concept of $100 shoes specific to biking on $150 pedals. Not yet anyway. Maybe in the future but for now the furthest I'll go is clips.

Seems like TAN needs to be moved to the TT forum this morning. This must classify as something.

You think you get a rest day because you did a HIM yesterday?

I lived in Cedar Rapids in '93 so I remember, all to well, the mess of the flood back then.  This is worse.  I really had a hard time time wrapping my head around all the water, even while seeing it.

Yes, they did a great job with the course.  The change they made was minor.  Basically, once you cross the dam and go up that slight hill, there was a hard right that took you into the woods, down a slight decline, turn left and then UP a big hill.  Well, if I remember correctly, it was mostly dirt so it would have been impossible to run up this year.

They do a great job with this race.  Very well organized.  Had a lot of fun and will definitely do it again next year.

Went last night to the pond at about 7:30pm to do some swimming. 100 yard or so laps of the beach. All backstroke but I'm getting really efficient with it as now I'm going 700-800 without stopping and without being out of breath.

Anyway, point is this: Last night I got pecked by a duck.

Actually if you add up all my swimming, I did a 68.8. Because I swam 1.7 miles instead of the normal 1.2. The funny thing is ... I REALLY ENJOYED the swim!!!

I guess it means I'm doing a decent job of becoming smooth in the water? I must have swam right into them. Either 2 or 4, couldn't tell as they'd moved off by the time I figured out WTF happened. I was the only person there and it was dusk.

They pulled the plug on the run because of some dark clouds and supposed lightening.
