How long would it take to get certified? Hmmm... I'm going to try attaching a couple of pics from the last few weeks (Zion and Halloween), though not holding my breath it will work. DOOO EEET! Last night I met with my friend and I will begin my weight loss program on Sunday, starting with a detox week (not mandatory, but it will help jump-start things) which should be interesting. After that, eating is more 'normal', with logging food/exercise/sleep, etc. online for my friend/coach to see as an essential part of the program which will provide the accountability I need. I signed on for a 12 week program, so we'll see how it goes. What helped convince me to do the detox portion is that my friend/coach did it. I have more credence in her for actually doing the program, ya know? Part of the fee includes a 'detox kit' which "Contains (1) TLS® CORE, (1) Isotonix® Multivitamin without Iron (30 servings), (1) NutriClean® 7-Day Cleansing System and (1) Isotonix OPC-3® (30 servings)". This is the part that is slightly out of line of my personal feelings about weight loss, the use of supplements even though they are all natural. I tend to view such supplements as 'snake oil'. Major downside of 'detox week': no strenuous physical activity, which means a week of no workouts, I guess. I think that for some people logging things can be extremely beneficial. For me, I would not put something in my mouth if I didn't want to log it. Really, it can be about paying attention to what you eat (again, for me, YMMV). Then again, all of you know that I'm a logger ;-) (not in the lumberjack way!) |

Major downside of 'detox week': no strenuous physical activity, which means a week of no workouts, I guess. Nothing natural about anything that comes with any kind of synthesis or processing--all natural would be grazing on wild blueberries and such ... But I digress. I actually don't frown--quite the opposite--on using supplements, lab-born meal replacements, or severe calorie restriction (for limited periods of time). Whatever works. "Jump-starting" can be very encouraging. And just because I'm kind of (actually, totally) an ahole when it comes to details, there's nothing cleansing or detoxifying about it ... other than having functioning liver and kidneys (and to some extent the large intestine), there's no way to get harmful stuff or amounts out of your system (okay, well, activated charcoal and naloxone. But again, I digress). Not sweat, nothing you can consume or not consume (other than not consuming harmful stuff!) ... And now I'm gonna REALLY digress ... people in the U.S. (and to some extent Canada ... this is much less of a problem in Western Europe and Australia where these things are much more regulated) using supplements to treat or as adjunct treatment for ailments should do so under the care of a medical professional and be VERY picky about brands. The supplement industry in the U.S. is WILDLY unregulated/unenforced, to the extent that a shocking proportion of the preparations don't contain ANY of the claimed ingredient, far less of the claimed ingredient, and/or have additional possibly harmful stuff. I completely agree with you, Yanti, but I think 'detox week' is a bit of a misnomer and isn't so much about removing bad stuff or true toxins in general in the system but rather to give the body a break from processed foods, caffeine, sugars, etc. etc. to help 'reset' one's palate and give the body as clean a start as possible. I am considering contacting my doc to be sure there aren't any drug interactions with the supplements vs. the few prescription meds I use for the very reasons you stated in your last paragraph. |

Master 3870 | Subject: RE: Mucho Mental Manatee Mentors--CLOSED (Pop Tarts?) Thanks everyone for the good kitty finding vibes. He seems none the worse for wear and is VERY happy to be back at home with us. Kirsten- I think he was eating dog food and drinking their water when they came in at night. Aside from losing a 2-3lbs, he looks really good for being out for over a week. We even had a surprise storm the other night. I brushed him this morning... and he couldn't stop drooling with happiness. LOL |

Detox - I remember seeing a doctor on a morning show here just after the holidays - and he said everyone's going mad detoxing etc. He said - guess what your liver does - yep that's right detox. Doesn't need help However he did say a week off the booze wouldn't hurt...IDIOT. |

Rant on/ Detoxing, cleansing, supplementing...I'm rather put off by all of it. Especially lately. A friend of mine got caught up in the MonaVie pyramid thing last year. She did the classes, seminars, etc. and pushed it at all of her friends. Even had "parties" to read antioxidant levels with her finger scanning machine and promote her product. She barely made enough to buy the product for herself. Now I see that she isn't promoting that anymore, and she's on to a cleanse/nutrition product called Isagenix. I read an ad for it that said something like 'the average person spends $479 a month on food, but you can have this completely balanced system for only $300 a month'. Really? Not that it can't be helpful, but I figure if I'm eating mostly healthy and balanced, why am I going to spend $$$$ on "a system" when I can just adjust my food? Yes, I'm a little jaded right now...and I like FOOD for my meals, not tablets and shakes. lol \rant off All that being said, I understand the need for a fresh start (kick in the butt), and I'm glad you're going into it cautiously with a plan instead of a fad/bandwagon kind of thing. |

Speaking of FB (rant on) I've pretty much given up on it. It's all recipes and memes now. I try to use it to keep up with my family and friends, not watch them repeat whatever witty sayings they read on someone elses FB?! /rant Ha Ha, I have one face book friend that does nothing but post pictures of the food she is going to cook (all of it really, really fattening BTW) and another that only posts bible quotes. I don't begrudge either their interests, but I don't need 20 posts of each at a time! |

LOL I love a happy ending! |

Veteran 940 Citrus Heights, CA | Subject: RE: Mucho Mental Manatee Mentors--CLOSED (Pop Tarts?) I succumbed to the self-induced pressure and am now registered for my THIRD half marathon for 2013...The Spirit of Rock 1/2 marathon on November 24....I NEVER thought I would consider doing a 1/2 marathon---let alone 3! Wow...how times have changed...I think I will actually train (i.e. RUN) for the next few weeks. |

The things we challenge ourselves to do when we "NEVER" thought we could. Ha! I'm right there with you. Can even hear myself telling my mom I would never be doing a tri...uh-huh. Then I told her I'd never do a marathon...sure, sure. I think I should stop saying never. How about you?
