Unless the pacer was wearing a gorilla suit, then all bets are off!

For those of you who have seen my post in TT, would you actually bring it up to the person who did it?

What if that person happened to be very high profile in the running community?

By rules pacing is cheating, but if someone beat me that was paced I don't think the pacing would have crossed my mind.  In the end if they were able to rally out of a dark place to beat me, then I say they deserve it.

My view is probably wrong, but I would rather beat someone at their best than beat them when they're having a bad day.

Isn't keeping their head in the game part of the competition though?

x2

Well, furthermore I don't think this is good day vs bad day.

The mental effort sustained, holding onto a pace just barely within reach (which I think half-marathonning is, to a T) is part of the race. You can certainly work with your competitors or teammates if they are out there. That is part of the deal for sure.

I just think it's a different "deal" when you have the advantage of having someone come in fresh for 5 miles (at mile 5) and lead you through.

I understand, and good points are made here.  Do you think the pacing thing was planned?  Maybe the pacer saw a friend struggling and wanted to help.  This becomes a grey area, because if the friend gave a gel or some water to the racer, then I'd be pretty peeved.  By that logic alone maybe I should condemn the racer for allowing the friend to pace, but for some reason that's harder for me to do.

Oh yeah. Planned for sure. She had a matching race kit and everything. And it happened right at the 5 mile mark.

I don't think those details matter much to me, whether it was planned or not. And not that it matters but it's not like this woman was in a dark place or something. She just wasn't running consistently.

Haha! Now THAT would be irritating! At least they were enforcing the rules though

Then maybe you should say something.  If anything just an "I'm on to your game, Trebek!".  I'm pretty sure the runner has this rationalized somehow.  People that cheat have a way of doing that (i.e. Lance Armstrong).

Ooh, be careful what you ask for!!  You're talking about Manatees here.  These people have been known to do all sorts of wacky things.  And we've got some law enforcement types who can find out where you live!!  (That would be a perfectly legitimate use of government resources, right, TJ and Hands?)

Don't do it, it's a trick. She uses the info to cracking your online bank account and clean you out. It's the only way she can feed her chamois cream and energy gel habit :P

That is all.

Don't try to stop us Darren, we know where you live.

I am very afraid of the computer whiz manatees!

Chris and Janyne are like the Beginner Triathlete version of the Shumacher's :D

LOL!

HA!

Do you have any idea how many people use their pet's name for their password?

Probably about the same number as those who use "password" as their password.

The townhomes for sale in our complex use the code "1234" for their garage entry. And no, we did not go in there and drink beers just for fun.

Of course you didn't.  I'm sure you were legitimately looking at other properties in your complex with an upgrade in mind.  Or at least an upgraded temporary party pad.

You might want to consider getting a pet that lives longer, like a giant tortoise.  Otherwise you're gonna be in trouble one of these days.

I posted my original thoughts in tt but if this is who I think it is (and I'm pretty sure it is) than she indeed knows better.  This was not ignorance and I think is rather hypocritical to who she passes herself off to in the public eye.  When you chose to make a living in a certain field (or anyone for that matter) I think your integrity matters.

The race directors are not going to care as their stated policy prohiting pacers has more to do with managing the volume on an already crowded course than anyone getting a competitive advantage.  I do not think that it would be right to publically call her out by name but if you have any personal connection or contact with her I don't think a note reminding her of common courtesy and race etiquette would be out of line.

It sucks because I had to leave my pacer at home.

Yeah. I didn't want to make too big of a deal about the high profile person because it is pretty easy to figure out.  (So please keep it here in Manatee-land) and I also wouldn't call her out publicly but I was considering shooting her an e-mail but I did want to get feedback first.

It's not a HUGE deal. And by having a conversation here it is becoming one, disproportionately to how I actually feel. It just rubbed me the wrong way.

Or you could ask her what actually happened and why and pretend to listen and then tell her how it appeared from other peoples perspectives and why you think it was wrong. Sometimes you catch more flies when they think there's honey.

You may have noticed that we had some birthdays this week (a belated Happy Birthday to Judi and an early happy birthday to Michael AL).

I have most of the returning Manatees on the birthday list.  Newer Manatees, if you want to be included either reply or PM me.

Don't do it, it's a trick. She uses the info to cracking your online bank account and clean you out. It's the only way she can feed her chamois cream and energy gel habit :P

July 16

That is all.

Don't try to stop us Darren, we know where you live.

I am very afraid of the computer whiz manatees!

Chris and Janyne are like the Beginner Triathlete version of the Shumacher's :D

Ok, where's Baby when you need her????

Do you have any idea how many people use their pet's name for their password?

Do you have any idea how many pets I have to choose from?

Find a mentor. Make a list of at least three people that you could approach for help, list your specific needs and then be courageous enough to begin asking.
