It's 1000 degrees out today.  Daughters birthday party is outside in about an hour.

Got to sleep in my own bed last night, woo hoo!.  Leaving after the party to a hotel for a race tomorrow : (

Good luck anyone else racing this weekend.

1000 degrees is hot!  It is going to be hot and humid here today but nothing like that.

Inspired by Marks century last week, I decided it was time for me to do my first 50 miler.  Completed that this morning.  Wasn't a huge jump over my previous longest ride (43) but still felt great to get it done.

Mark, I gotta say that the fact you went to 100 so fast is pretty impressive...not sure I could have (or would have wanted to) spend another 3 hours in the saddle!!!

Have a great Saturday everyone.  Good luck to those racing today and tomorrow.

tritiny - 2010-07-23 12:00 PM It's been a tough week here.  Last Saturday morning my friend Cindy was was struck and killed while riding.  The funeral was yesterday.   Hard to type this without crying again.

I'm doing the MS 150 tomorrow.  It's was one event Cindy really promoted.  Her mother had MS.  I'm pretty much healed from my crash.  Still have a tiny bit of pain in my left elbow.  I'll try to make it as far as I can tomorrow but if I seems like I'm making my left arm worse I'll cut it shorter. I'm excited and sad to do the ride.  I'm also a member of my local ham radio club.  My friends from the club are doing communications and sag for the ride.

Tiana

That is just terrible.  So sorry for you loss and the emotional pain you and your friends must be going through.  Take care and be careful tomorrow.

x2 Tiana....so sory for your loss and thoughts and prayers go out to your friends family.  And PLEASE do be careful out there tomorrow.

Super late to the game (as always !), but SO SORRY TO HEAR THIS!  It is amazing how quickly things can happen on the roads!

Leave it to a Yankee's fan to hyberbolize the temperature. But i guess 1000 degrees would be hot.

I resemble that remark!

And at 1000 degrees, it doesn't even matter if it is deg. F or that other unit of measure for temperature, it is still hot!

Several people from this area are doing LP tomorrow.  I will be tracking them during the day.  They were nervous and excited.  Several of them are first time IMers.

Hmm, this sounds like some judgement Trev......my former swim coach has the surgery and it is no easy lifestyle.  Still have to go through all the same things-limited eating, good nutrition and exercise.  Just sayin.....

Off for my slow slog in Northern Wi.....be back around bedtime

Oh no i agree. Suz. you still need to maintain the lifestyle, etc to keep the weight off.
I'm just not a fan of when people say they 'lost the weight. No you didnt. a doctor did. You are maintaining it, but you didnt lose it. I get a bit defensive when people talk about 'losing the weight'. When a doctor physcially removes it from you, that isn't hard work. You aren't sweating to lose it.You aren't learning anything about lifestyle, choices, etc.
You don't know how much work it was to lose it.
Some people, yes, need it physically to survive. Others, it seems like a bit of a cop out.
my 2 cents

tritiny - 2010-07-23 6:45 AM thanks everyone for your kind words.  I heading out in a few minutes and I'm going to have fun cause that is what Cindy would want.  Everyone have a great weekend.

Tiana

Tiana - We had two cyclists killed by careless drivers in OKC last weekend. One was a hit and run.

Thursday I was going on a training ride when I witnessed an elderly man driving a huge pickup plow into an adorable mini dachshund right in front of me. I saw the dog 75 yards out.....apparently the old man didn't??? He didn't even hit his brakes until he'd already ran over the dog. It was so heartbreaking.

It so could have been me he hit.

There's no denying it - cycling is a dangerous sport.

Training question: I'm thinking about doing the Redman Aquabike. It's 2100 yard swim/56 mile bike. Anyone have suggestions on how to train for that? I don't think BT has training plans for Aquabikes.....

Not sure how much time you have to train before the race but you could pull out a half iron plan from BT and do the swim and bike portion and supplement your own run schedule.

Hi gang - back from Hagerstown, just finished eating a huge piece of leftover birthday day and feeling a little queasy.   Why does doing stuff like that seem like a good idea at the time.   UGH!!!

Anyway - met Linda.  That was definitely the best part of the day.  She was super nice and part of a kick butt tri club in Frederick!  And she came home w/ a little hardware herself.  We hope to meet up again in 2 weeks at Ft. Richie.

Although I did somehow manage to win my AG which is very nice and I don't want to sound ungrateful but I was quite a bit slower than I wanted and thought I could do.  The heat was horrible.  I have no idea how Linda managed going so late in the morning.  I did not have a good run and really had to push myself to keep going.  I was also cramping (my quads) which has only happened to me in a marathon.  So not sure what was up with that.  I was pretty hydrated and took a electrolyte pill before the race.

RR will be up soon.  Hope everyone had a good weekend.
