Well, I'm sick. Now that I think about, I think I've been fighting it since the train ride Saturday/Sunday. I was unexplainably sneezy and nose runny. I thought it was just something I was having an allergic reaction to. It got worse once we got home. Again, I figured, allergies (back with my cat, which I am allergic to). Burning sore throat on my swim and ear ache after on Tuesday (the chlorine must be off, I thought). But alas. I am sick.

I'm now off to search why we don't have a cure for the common cold. I think I know the answer, but I'll feel better venting some frustration about it in my quest.

ETA: Well, this is discouraging. Not only is there no cure, but nothing really works to relieve symptoms. (Which may be why my nose is still running, I am still sneezing, and my throat is still on fire.) Cry Maybe I need to go back to the gym. I wasn't sneezing there.

I swam 3600m tonight!  That's the furthest I've swum (swam?) by 400m.  We did 1800m before we hit our main set of a T-30 (swim for 30 min).  I made it 1550m in the 30 min.  And honestly, I felt good the whole time, which really surprised me.  I found the zone where distance doesn't matter, and tried to stay in it.

NEW JOB - Perfect news!

Boo to being sick that sucks.

I've not trained - oops - been too busy having fun.  Today is my last day on my own, they get back in four hours.

So yesterday was waxing - spare you the details, and lots of laundry etc.  Really finishing off the clean up - also grocery shopping.

Today - slept in, went to the doctor to get a certificate for my mental health day - stomach flu is always a fall back.  I'm a convincing liar it seems.  I did also have a purpose to get bloodwork done on all the things that matter.

Also a referral for an EKG - Ironman age 49 I've heard too many stories of late and two podcasts on IM Talk with a doctor and a cardiologist - they say, it's easy get the EKG then at least if there are any abnormalities you're aware before you jump in the ocean.

No Sugar No Grains - with my pal Vinnie Tortorich - yes we are now pals.  I am actually writing his website newsletter for him, I also write Macca's newsletter as well as being podcast manager for Macca - I don't know how this all happened!  I'm pushy and a stalker probably helps.

Well the NSNG - basically the principle is - stay away from sugar - naturally occurring sugar in fruit is fine, but don't juice it, you need to fibre in there to stop the sugar spike.

No grains - if you're desperate some rice on occasion.  No potatoes. I haven't had bread, pasta, pizza, candy, potato or potato chips etc or sugar or chocolate in 9 weeks and I feel great.

I don't drink as much either because wine fundamentally is fruit juice if I have it I have it with some cheese, cut it with some fat!  This also means no beer - liquid bread.  But spirits yes, whipped vodka is my new fave!

I don't eat or drink anything that contains an ingredient ending in 'ose' nor maltodextrin.  I go for natural products, nuts, olives, cheese, full fat yoghurt, berries with heavy cream etc.

This is not Atkins though it's similar it is less restrictive, it literally is no sugar no grains.     So given that I'm going for unprocessed food (the most processed I eat is bacon yum) I am also staying away from Gu, Gels, Gatorade and other sports drinks.

I am a work in progress but I will keep everyone updated.  It's not for everyone I recognise that.  But one thing I have definitely learned is that fat doesn't make you fat, sugar does.

Jo, do you remember the issues with the rice? The processed ones I at least understand more, but wasn't sure why the rice comes up for some.

Looks like my Saturday ride just got longer. I got a message from Strava that someone took one of my QOM! I'm all "oh no you didn't"! So it looks like I'm riding out to get my crown back tomorrow. Cool

. The problem is we have become so insulin resistant with our over consumption of processed grains that now any carb can give us a sugar spike. So if you occasionally want rice be sure to have it with fat like cheese or cream to cut the spike effect

My new position is as an Advertising Consultant with a company called HIBU.  They sell Internet Marketing, Websites, Website Optimization, Direct Mail, ad's in local magazines, web videos, and yellow page ads.

In the past, I had this exact position with a competitor of this company.  I did VERY well for myself both years that I worked for them.

I am excited to get back into this line of work.  It is also a virtual position, only requiring me to go to the office once per week for a sales meeting.

I start 8/12.

The better you may be different in everyone, but Miller64 is the beer that won't undo all of the effort the better you puts it. we look forward to toasting you and your efforts after the TRI with a Miller64 at the post-race party!

Really?! This race has served Summer Shandy the last two years! I think they're cheaping out on us. M64 is what I sweat during a race after I have a hefe!

That sucks! Summer Shandy is way better.  I don't think M64 is worth drinking...I'd rather have a Guinness or something post-race!

What?! That is totally unexceptable. It is not a beer at all, more like funny colored water.

Especially after we got used to the Summer Shandy! Someone on FB commented to that fact too! Smile

Guess M64 paid better than the other. I think I would pass on it and go out for some real beer.

What's weird is that Miller owns Leine's now, so it shouldn't be a difference.  My guess is that they are trying to push M64 for endurance athletes like how Michelob Ultra used to have Lance Armstrong in their commercials.
