So, TAN, I must rant.

A guy on facebook posted a link to a story about why drivers hate cyclists and cyclists hate drivers and it's the same ol' thing about how they basically get in each other's way. I posted that I dont dislike drivers when I'm riding or cyclists when I'm driving. Someone posts that he's so fed up with cyclists on the sidewalk that he's going to push them down next time he sees one. So I protest, saying that's not a good response, and he says `Cyclist's bad attitude in the flesh.' So I go off about how he needs to check himself and that pushing a cyclist off his bike can cause serious injury and that wishing harm on anybody is mean and that if protesting against someone who threatens to do others harm is having a bad attitude, then, yes, I guess I have a bad attitude.

RARRR!

batches be trippin.

If someone purposely pushed me off my bike, I'd want to get up, pick up my bike, and swing it at them. Though I'd never actually do that. I think.

You can't change stupid, Tony.  Hopefully, this MORE ON doesn't act on his impulse and actually physically hurts a cyclist, but if he does, I hope there are others around to detain him and he gets his just punishment (like getting kicked in the nutz several hundred times, etc.)

I've been out of the country a long time. The definition of bonking maybe has changed. Or maybe not....

Dang, I've got stuff to catch up on!

Pittzie - awesome news about the job!!

Meh - it's weird and fantastic at the same time to actually LIKE where you work.  I'm going through the same thing... I actually LIKE going to work.  ODD!

Elaine - I'm with you... anyone who pushes me off my bike while I'm riding had better be able to run fast, cuz I'm comin' after you!

Just a friendly reminder that trying to workout without eating enough first is a bad, bad idea.

As president of our local trails group, I was asked to post some bike safety articles that are pretty standard to help the public just be aware of bicyclists while driving on the streets and highways.  A very close friend, who I have ridden motorcycles with for most of my life off and on, and we had talked about how to make it better/safer for motorcycles on the roads.  He went off that bicycles should never be on the road that they are hazards to everyone driving, etc....  But, he will say that when he is on the motorcycle that everyone needs to be more alert while driving.  He also said I was a complete IDIOT for riding my bicycle on the streets and I also ride on the highway which has a wide section for bikes on the outside of the rumbles.  I have tried the nice and PC responses, and they don't work and I have tried talking with him one on one to help get his support (and others) to absolutely no good.

I find it odd that motorcyclists would have this view of cyclists, but then again, there were a group of us during the bike at B2B that were actually buzzed by a group of cruiser-riders at one point.  Not cool.  For ME - I've found that riding a motorcycle made me hyper aware as both a cyclist and a driver as to what's going on around me, and if someone is acting like an idiot using whatever mode of transportation... they're simply acting like an idiot.

Once someone has made up their mind about almost anything, you're not ever going to get them to see things differently - which can be very frustrating.

I feel the same way.  I wish everyone had to learn/ride a motorcycle for a while.  I think you can get too complacent in a car in your steel "cocoon".  And cyclists sometimes think they are pedestrians and take liberties (ride on walk, weave through traffic, etc).  A motorcycle makes you follow the rules like a car, but you have to be aware like on a bike.

I agree that I became more aware when riding motorcycles on the street again, and that I became a better driver of a car after getting back to street riding of motorcycles after doing a lot of years of dirt bikes on trails.

There will always be people that you can never change, but I never expected my motorcycle friend to be that much against bicycles on the street.

that is surprising - i would think a motorcycle rider understands how it is to feel vulnerable on the road.

So I go off about how he needs to check himself and that pushing a cyclist off his bike can cause serious injury and that wishing harm on anybody is mean and that if protesting against someone who threatens to do others harm is having a bad attitude, then, yes, I guess I have a bad attitude. RARRR!

A motorcycle makes you follow the rules like a car, but you have to be aware like on a bike.

eh, i see plenty of motorcycles weave through traffic and plenty of cyclist obey the law.  some people are just a-holes.  i have no interest in learning to ride a motorcycle.

I guess I missed where I said all motorcyclists are perfect and all cyclists are bad.

All I'm saying, as a rider, I have become more aware of distracted/bad drivers since I'm a little more exposed.  Therefore, I that awareness transferred to my cycling and driving and I work harder NOT to be a distracted driver.  I have heard similar stories from other motorcyclists.  I think if all drivers learned to be more away and less distracted, it's a good thing.  I guess it doesn't have to be by riding a motorcycle, but that is ONE way.

As a rider and cyclist, I know what it feels like to be buzzed or not be seen.  Therefore as a driver, make more of an effort to make riders and cyclists comfortable and am more aware of them other than just another thing on the road.  I don't think it would hurt of all drivers had that exposure so they KNOW how it feels to be buzzed or cut off.  But that will never happen - can't make people ride bike or motorcycles.  People will be blissfully ignorant in their cars.

BUT I agree 1000%.  There are bad motorcyclists and good cyclists.

That is surprising.  I think they probably just don't like cyclists in general.  Because if they were buzzed by a cyclist riding on the sidewalk when they were out for a walk, they would be just as angry they were on the sidewalk.

that is surprising - i would think a motorcycle rider understands how it is to feel vulnerable on the road.

I think that's why it's surprising to me as well.  Both motorcyclists and cyclists have to ride like absolutely everyone is out to kill you when riding on the streets - and it certainly feels like they really are trying to kill you some days.
