Suzy turning to work to keep from training...things are really out of whack around here! Reuben - you have an impeccable sense of timing sir! LOL

Suzy, nice job on the Oly.  I really don't think there's anyone that doesn't KNOW you are absolutely prepared for the HIM. Tracy, way to break in the new bike. John, thanks for correcting her post! Andy, glad you're feeling better. Hope things settle down. Does anyone know anything about, ever dealt with, or used Voltaren Gel? Is a topical NSAID designed for OsteoArthritis, but our doctor gave it to Robin for other joint issues. It's great for muscle aches as well and the doc said it would be fine to use it sparingly for such things. |

Question for all the long distance racers in the group (HIM to IM to adventure races): Talk to me about your morning of the race fueling routine. What do you eat, how many calories, timing? The reason I ask is I was talking to Steve and then to a few friends who have done either HIMs or IMs and things vary greatly. You have the "Bulk Up" people who eat between 800-1500 calories (IM is the high side #) to those who eat 200-300 calories beforehand and rely on race nutrition to get them through things. I am a light eater (maybe 200 cals) and consume about three hours before race time and then nothing. While I wont be changing things for the HIM, I am wondering if I should be for my next training cycle HIM to IM. So what do you do? why? Last long run of this training cycle is done for me....9 more days. |

| Elite 3395 Raleigh | Subject: RE: SWBKRUN Mentor Group-Closed! KEEP ASKING QUESTIONS!!! Hello MG. This AM was my 14th strength session in the past 7 weeks. One exercise that kills me is the V crunches with the FB. Basically, while lying on your back you lift your arms and legs simultaneously and pass a Fit Ball from your arms to your feet, lower your arms and legs and then repeat to pass the ball back to your arms. Well, today it hurt a lot less and I did more continuously (12) then ever before! I am not sure how much the strength exercises are helping, but the core work is definitely helping in the swim and bike. Also, went for a PM run with NHavin'Fun yesterday. It was great to have the company. Linda's running is a whole level beyond me! She just glides over the ground and carries on a conversation no problem. Looks effortless. I am plodding along huffing and puffing. Myr un has fallen apart. I have decied to venture outside my plan and add more running to get it back. Getting back to Linda, I have seen her swim at the Smile Train Tri and have ridden with her on a practice run there. It funny that her weakest part (bike) is my best, and her swim and run put me to shame. (Hey lets do this as a team one day!) Anyway she is doing Ironman Florida nd I know she do awesome! Looking forward to following on the Internet. Linda thats for the company! Doug |

Last long run of this training cycle is done for me....9 more days. I may not be the right person to answer but this is what I do. Upon wakeup, 1-2 pieces of toast or 1/2-1 bagel w/ pb and vitamin water usually 2-3 hrs. before race start. Then about 30 min. before race start, gel, beans or 1/2 a bar depending on my stomach condition and what sounds good w/ some water. So that's about 300-500 cal. then another 75-150. I guess I fall in the middle. That said - I'm happy w/ before the race begins calorie intake, it's during that I drop the ball. |

Last long run of this training cycle is done for me....9 more days. I think my race breakfast may be a little different because I have so frigging long to wait for my swim wave. I go off at 9. My thought is that I will probably wake up and eat a boiled egg and a oatmeal w/banana which would be about or 5 hrs before race. Closer to time, I will probably add a 1/2 PB and honey sandwich and then maybe a power bar...maybe a gel right before the start. I am thinking with as much time as I have that I may need and be able to eat a little more than I might if I were off early.

| Subject: RE: SWBKRUN Mentor Group-Closed! KEEP ASKING QUESTIONS!!! Suzy,  I am no expert, but here is my experience.  I eat a "normal" breakfast....usually a bagel with peanut butter and a banana with something to drink.  If I eat too much I will feel bloated and "yucky".  Besides (not to be gross) but it usually doesn't stay with me too long anyway.  I also take a powerbar to nibble on (if my body wants it) before the race.  I do take stuff to eat and drink on the bike course.  Then I usually "eat off the land" during the run - which usually inspires me to run to the next aid station I know it's early, but good luck next weekend...you are going to have so much fun! edited for that darn spelling Edited by Havin'Fun 2009-09-03 12:31 PM |
