Thanks everyone for the input on the vehicles.  Very helpful!   I think we're going to go with the Suburban.  I really like that the new Expedition has the automatic fold flat 3rd row but there was something about the way it handled we didn't like. Yeah Reub, I'm hoping to keep my truck too.  Nobody wants a diesel extended cab anyways right now.  The only thing I wish I did was buy the crew cab instead.  So we'll have the sienna, suburban, and my truck.  overkill huh!

I really need to get moving to NC.  The girls up there are hot,  love football and think butt massages are better than sex.  And  Linda, it is tri-related because our schedules will revolve around it.

Tracy.  I love my Zoot's but can't explain it other than they feel great after a long run and I've worn them traveling...awesome!  I bought Jarrett a pair of 2XU recovery socks, less compression, for the swelling and she loves them.  You should post some pics of you wearing them... just them.

Jeremy...  I copied and pasted your last reply about them to CEP (makers of Zoot and a few others) to see what was up.  Never heard back.  Telling, maybe.  But lots of people wear them.  Who knows.

Back to massages.  After Jarrett and I test drove cars this afternoon then went and got hour and a half massages.  Wonderful!  yep, the butt part too.  But I'm not saying its a good as Tracy says.

Barry.  Awesome news!

I have no idea whether this link will work or not.  I am a monthly subscriber to peak running performance and just finished July-August.  It is packed with info for several of you:

1. Sam -- great article on running in the aerobic zone and nutritional changes during different types of training.  May help answer some of your questions on your last long run.

2. Barry/Chris--great article on the ITB/TFL and stretching.  This stretching article was enlightening for me too.  I am a before, during and after kind of gal which might not be the best strategy.

If the link doesn't work and you want the articles PM me your email (I already have Tony's).

We are in the land of wonderful until late Monday.  The lake is like glass, but I behaved myself.  No swim on the plan so no swimming tonight.  Tomorrow is another story.

Tracy you compression socks are "sports" related.... meaning you can run in them without getting blisters... The kind from the drugstore will not be comfy to run in, but will have the same concept...  The tri specific one's are worth it.  Give it time.  I felt a pretty big difference, and have worn them casually before/after workouts, as well as during workouts.  I swore I would never buy them, but I was glad the Mrs. gave me a pair.  I am hooked.  For anything 1/2 or longer I will probably be wearing them to race in....

After I got my pair, I loved them, so I picked up Ryan a pair, and I think he has forever converted to the darkside as well.....

apparently not if its a WTC event after Kona this year......  edit.. from here

Ironman and Ironman 70.3 races is mandatory and marking an athlete’s age group on the calf is part of that process. Athletes competing in our events rely on age group markings on calves to identify their competition. Ironman has been receiving an increasing number of complaints that compression socks and calf guards hide age group identification. At Hawaii 70.3 in June, Ironman experimented with eliminating age group calf markings on all athletes. This attempt at resolving the issue was met by even more complaints by the athletes. Therefore, beginning with the 2009 Ford Ironman World Championship, garments that cover age group calf markings will not be permitted. Ironman’s goal is to design (and my job is to enforce) rules that provide the most level playing field possible.

Sincerely, Jimmy Riccitello

Thanks Suzy.  I skimmed the article and it looks great.  I think I used to be on the right track as far as the yoga goes.  I had thought about incorporating it into my exercise program.  Instead of going to the class at my gym, I bought a DVD to check it out first.  I got it from Amazon.  It was called "Yoga for Inflexible People".  That was me!  The day I got it, I put it in my DVD player and said " you have got to be kidding me!  This is way too advanced for me!"  From that point I only tried it one other time.  I gave it to a friend who does yoga five days a week and she said it was a great DVD for beginners.  I'll have to give it another shot.  There is some great info in all of the articles in the newsletter.  Thank you.

Plainsman AU - 2009-09-04 3:55 PM Just got back from the sport doc.  He had no problem sticking the needle to me.  Actually was not that bad...as I was expecting.  He said this should help me train, then if i needed another prior to the race, we could do that too...then rest and heal afterwards.  I am excited.  Will give it a try in the morning to see how it does.  Hopefully can get another long run or so in prior to the race.

That's great Barry!  Got to be a relief after the hours of training you have already put in...

My wife and daughter are coming, daughter will more than likely be in the Moody Gardens thing for the kids.  We also know a little about Galveston, the Strand, etc.  so she could be like a little tour leader to the shopping, etc.

Hey everyone. I just got back from a metric century ride (65 miles actually). It was my first time riding in a big pack in years. Took some getting used to. I am tired now, (understatement). The last 5 miles were tough as our pace between the first and second rest stops was a little more than I am trained for right now. But it was a beautiful day in NC!

I hope you all are having a great Labor Day weekend!

Holy crap!  After a nice anniversary dinner with my wife, she gave me the thumbs up to doing an Ironman next year.  Decisions, Decisions.  I'm thinking Louisville if it's still open after I finish Augusta this year.  We'll see how that goes first.

Now that is true love!  What are you letting her do? Kiss

Louisville? Why not do IM WI with me?  You already do a crazy number of hills in your workouts so it would be perfect.  Not as hot, tons of fan support from start to finish and you get to meet me!!!  I have been trying to con Kim to come out here and do it so maybe you can meet my twin too.

Today is supposed to be another gorgeous day in Minocqua.  EZ bike, 40 minute swim and more boating on tap before heading to some friends for a cook-out.  I hate to see summer end.  It really is my favorite time of year.

Suzy.  Thanks for the article reference.  Might have to try that yoga thing in the off season.

Sounds like a pretty good anniversary.  I have my anniversary on the 11th of this month.  I don't think I could get my wife drunk enough to get her to agree to that time commitment right now

Had a long ride and brick run this morning...42 ride and 5.5 run.  Felt pretty good but I can tell you that no matter how easy I take it on the bike, the run is going to be hard.  Knee felt ok though which was good.  I am headed to the lake now and if the adult beverages don't get in the way too quickly, I will try out my new wetsuit.  Otherwiswe, OWS in the morning.

Everyone, have a good labor day.

Trevor and Rob...have a nice day at work

Happy Labor Day everyone!  I am being very lazy in Maryland right now.  The hubby is showing me up and out running as we speak.  I did go for a hilly bike ride on Saturday to remind myself what Savage is all about.  Did pretty good so I am pleased.  I've taken the week off from running to let my achilles and calf rest up but I need to get back into the swing of things.

Sam - I got a pair of the compression socks at the drug store. I figured for 5 bucks I'd give 'em a try.  I wore them for the 6 hour car ride and have slept in them every night.  Very worth it.  I see your point Steve that they are not meant to run in and will probably invest in the exercise quality brands, but this was a great way to try.  Thanks Sam!  And thanks Kim for the knowledge about the different compression grades. I've learned a lot.

Way to go Chris on IMLouisville!    My girlfriend has committed to racing my IM with me. I think we've agreed on IMCA and I was thinking 2011, she thinks 2012. This year will mark her second IM in a row, Lake Placid then Beach 2 Battle, so if she needs a 2 year break I can't really argue.  Steve, up for some house guests when we road trip to register and train on course?  Any chance I could talk you into a 3rd time?

I hope everyone is having a great weekend.  The weather here is great and I had a great 55 mile ride this morning with a few of my neighbors.

Do we have race results yet?  I want to know who will be wearing the capris.

First off...hope everone had a good weekend.

Had an awesome experience at the lake.  I have read that wetsuits made swimming easier, but had no idea how much.  Man it was like laying on a float and paddling around.  WTF!  I tried my new sleeveless Xterra this morning and I was so suprised at the position it held your body.  I mean why do people need to LEARN how to swim if you can use one of these things.  Seems like a little arm endurance...and you are good to go.

I am probably over simplifying it a bit, but I was extremely impressed.  Got in and swam about 2600 + ... lots of fun.  Can't wait to go back or can't wait for the race for that matter.

Hello all, back and ready to go.

19 miles tomorrow, some shorter runs during the week and on Sunday 2 mile warmup, 10 miles @ 8:45 and 2 miles cooldown, should be interesting, especially since Sam and I are going out the night before, for my birthday.

Didn't get much running, biking or swimming in on the trip but 36 holes a day of golf gets tiring after the 3rd straight day of it.

Very cool meeting Barry aka "King of Auburn" while we were down there.  Gave us a great tour of Auburn University and a few of the local bars.

Will catch up tomorrow and this week on all the posts, going in to work late tomorrow so Sam and I can take our son in for his first day of Kindergarden.

For those possibly interested in the Columbia Triathlon, don't forget that registration opens today at 9 AM.  http://www.tricolumbia.org/Columbia/  From what I've heard, it sells out pretty quickly.  I'm going to sign up this morning.
