Each morning, I've gotten up early as usual and my first thought has been something along the lines of, "oh, no - no more training"! This morning the thought of an hour and a half interval trainer ride almost had me turning over and going back to sleep. Anyone else feeling similar? Yes! Getting out of bed is tough enough. Following it up with a tough session on legs that are already half-dead isn't a cheery thought. On the bright side, only about 6 weeks to go... Really? 6 weeks? Wish I wouldn't have read that one! Last year they did tell us we could not swim inside the buoys, but it was never enforced. Being a slower swimmer, I started on the line, but pretty far back. There were many people to my left the entire time including during the turns. |

I'm glad to hear about the swim, though, and that the fast guys freak out with the scrum too. That makes me (solidly MOP) feel better. |

Yes. You only need to 'go wide' at the four corners. For those of you that haven't taken part in mass start with deep water. About 3 mins or so you'll want to move from a vertical position of bobbing to floating on your stomach sculling with your arms. A lot of the congestion comes from 2500 people taking up 1 foot of space to the cannon going off and now everyone is horizontal and trying to take up the same 6 feet of space. By going horizontal you'll keep people off you initially at the cannon.
This is GREAT advice and I rarely hear it!!! |

I have a 1/2 ironman race in Michigan the same weekend as the race this year so I will not be able to volunteer. Does anyone know when the online registration starts and how long does it normally take to fill up after it opens online? |

Is it broken? That's exactly what happened to me 5 weeks before IMWI in 2009. My toe got huge and bruised and deformed and I could not put it into a shoe! I wore flip flops for most of the rest of the summer and had to cut the side out of my running shoe after about 3 weeks so I could do something that resembled running. (shuffling). I got up in the middle of the night to go pee and I jammed my toe into a doorjamb. I heard it CRACK, and it was, in fact, broken. Hurt like hell. Are you doing Racine or Door County this weekend, Hayes? |

Thank you for posting this! I'd been meaning to get contact info for a good LBS near Madison, and now I can check it off my list!

It opens on Tuesday morning after the race at 9am I believe. They allow the other racers and volunteers to sign up Monday, online the next day. |

Steve The Uphill Grind is a cool shop. They are right on the course and a great place to stop for water. When I was in there a couple weeks ago, they even had a pitcher for water so you could fill up your areo bottles without having to take them off the bike. (and they have AWESOME iced coffee - worth the drive back post ride!) Another great shop we visited while we were in Madison is Endurance House. (www.endurancehouse.com). Awsome triathlon shop with a very knowledgable and friendly staff. Good luck to everyone training!! We are in the downhill stretch now!!! (I am scared out of my gourd!!) |

It opens on Tuesday morning after the race at 9am I believe. They allow the other racers and volunteers to sign up Monday, online the next day. Last year they had two lines - one for volunteers and one for open sign ups (anyone could get in that line). The order is: Friday or Saturday before the race, people signed up to the race this year have the opportunity to sign up for next years race. Monday AM: Volunteers can sign up prior to general entry. There is also a line for general entry at the site, however all volunteers are given the opportunity to sign up (if you are in the line) prior to the general entry. I believe that the on-site general entry line is then allowed to sign up prior to the race going live on the website. regardless, the website has traditionally sold out within a few hours. |

I had friends who made it in and some who didn't. You can stand in line on Monday in the non-volunteer section. Every one of those people got in the last two years. |

We started with 4 in the group but only finished with 2. It was really hot! Thank God for salt tablets. |
