Did a nice run in London last night. The route is on Strava. This is what I saw

I clicked the pretend like button.  That's pretty cool.

X2 it's always cool to run in new places but yours is cooler than most!

Just arrived in Munich. It's harder to run here. There are beer gardens everywhere. Very distracting.

Sounds like a good place to do intervals in between them?  Laughing

Looking out my office window, it's nice to see the wind blowing the palm trees again.  I was getting worried for a while that it would be an extremely humid race in Kona.  The carnage would have been epic.  That said, the trade winds are supposed to die down again next week, so it looks like they're going to catch a break this weekend.

In TT (stay out Fred), there is a thread about treadmill running that contained a link to Bobby McGee's running fundamentals talking about candence/stride/etc that was very interesting, don't know if ya'll have seen it. The link to the video is here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GSGzqkjrWRA

Gotta start the evening activities, so I'm out for the night - I'm sure we'll be at page 45 by tomorrow morning at this rate. Ciao!

I took a class from a guy that studied under Bobby McGee.  It was very informative.  I am no faster though.   I am actually just starting to really concentrate on what I learned though since I was a few weeks out from my HIM when I took it

Yes, Whistler is the new IM Canada and the ironic thing is it is on the same day as Challenge Penticton!  Crazy

Marc, I think you just missed Oktoberfest, but am guessing there is still some bier left at a few spots. Lots of great running spots.  the Englischer Garden is worth a run through and should be pretty. Probably too chilly, but there is a creek that has an artificial wave/surfers. Kind of funny to watch.

Some people are posting on ST that they are getting great hotel rates.  Hotels are even offering Ironman discount rates.  3 nights for $480 taxes in for a room with a full kitchen.

Someone else posted an analysis of what they thought the route would be.  Some of the road was recently repaved for the Olympics.  He said the rest was in decent condition - some patchy sections but nothing really bad.

It's a venue I would consider but I don't have another IM on my radar for a few years.

. One tip I'd love at some point is how to tune the front and rear derailers better. I can do some basics, but honestly would love some advice.

I asked about this in TT over the summer and got a fantastic step by step guide to fixing my shifting problems by resetting everything to zero and starting over from Leegoocrap.  Pasted below.

start from zero.

1.) Shift into Neutral (smallest Cog, small chainring) - make sure your shifters are in the right position relative to this also.

2.) Unattach both cables (front/rear derailleur)

3.) If your Front Derailleur WAS working properly and it hasn't been in some way damaged / knocked out of line since then, you can pull the slack from the cable and re-attach it. The problem you had was probably too much slack. (If it has been knocked out of whack, there are more in depth steps you'll have to take)

4.) Turn the barrel adjuster on the rear derailleur to the right/clockwise (if you are looking at it from the back) until it stops, then back it out 1 1/2 full twist.

5.) Check to see that the rear derailleur and it's cage/jockey wheels are lined up properly (again, they should be unless something has caused trauma to it)

6.) Pull the rear cable tight and re-attach it to your rear derailleur.

7.) shift up 1 gear at a time. Here there will be 2 scenarios

a.) it shifts up correctly. Repeat step 7.

b.) it does not shift up correctly. Continue pedaling the crank and slowly twist the barrel adjuster (SLOWLY I SAID) counterclockwise/left (looking at it from behind)  until it shifts up correctly. Shift back down 1 cog and then back up to test/confirm it shifts right. Repeat step 7.

Voila!

Welcome everyone I missed some posts...again I think.

Got a nice 10 in with the group at 5 AM.  It'll be my long for the week.

Not racing but watching Kona if possible ...hoping to check in around the key parts  I have been watching a lot of videos on triathlete.com.  Some good interviews on there.  I have a party at 7PM tomorrow to go to.  Told my buddy I'd be a bit late...he's an ironman...he gets it...my other friend lives right down the street so maybe I'll watch the last 10k at his house and walk over.  What is 11:30AM start EST?  So we think 7:30-8:00 for the leaders?

Whistler would be sweet.  Too pricey for me I think overall logistically.  Maybe some day.

I'll be looking out for the bike tips.

I think it's a 12:30 Eastern time start (no Daylight savings time in Hawaii).  I think you are going to be later to the party than you think.

Felicia, I used to live in Kansas City. It was hillier than most people realize. Central KS...pretty flat as I recall. Have a great race! Destroy the hill.

Or even more basic, but still derailer based, but adjusting the bloody cable.  I have new cables in that I now need to adjust but I can never figure out which way to turn the knob.    Being bested by the simplest of repairs...

Whisler is my favorite ski resort.  It has a great village.  I believe it is like a 3 hour drive from Vancouver although that is in the winter and the roads can be a bit treacherous at that time.  This has to be a very difficult bike/run course and I would question the road quality as well although they probably do not get as bad a freeze/thaw cycle as the lower elevations.

It is sure to have awesome scenery!

X2 Whistler is awesome. Its well set up for a large event and there is tons of lodging since it was an Olympic venue and they did a bunch of development for that. Tons of activities to choose from--very family friendly. It's only about a 2 hour and a bit drive north of Vancouver on a very scenic highway that follows the coast. I'm not sure what the bike course is but I was having this discussion with a guy in my class who rides and he really didn't have a bad thing to say as far as riding his bike. He loves it out there. I've ridden a small stretch south of Whistler and my only complaints were really related to hills...haha. In my mind Whister>>Penticton.

One downside is how this impacts the Challenge race in Penticton.  Just a bit sad that they have to go head to head, and over time (or maybe very quickly) people may flock to the WTC banner and an iconic race disappears.  Hopefully not, but it's hard to think you can have two full iron races on the same day in such close proximity and both do well.

Sure, fill in whatever is missing or could use expansion/explanation.  I used that to fix my shifting woes this summer and it worked perfectly but had it not gone exactly according to the description I wouldn't have known what to do.
