Did decided against doing the HIM in sept and signed up for the sprint instead. Really nervous about getting injured this close.

I'm doing a HIM in September mainly as a practice run.  Need to get my nutrition and pacing down.  I usually go out too fast and don't eat like I do in training.  At least that is what happened in my last 2 HIM's.  Don't want it to happen at IMFL.  So, I am going to take it easy and see how strong I can finish.

enjoy,

Duane

Anyone know how the nutrition is on the bike course?  20oz bottle?  1,2 or 3 scoops of powerbar perform?

I've just got back from a 3 week holiday in Seattle, Vancouver and Alaska.  Fantastic scenery and wildlife - Alaska was simply stunning.  If you haven't been then try to get there .... (after IMFL !)

But ... no rides for nearly three weeks so I'm a bit behind there.  Managed to swim a couple of times but mainly concentrated on running.  Still enough time to complete the IM Build between now and November (although we are about to get back into the return to school routine for the kids and parents !)

Hope everyone's training is coming along well as the countdown continues.

Adrian

It is RTD Powerbar perform that tastes different than powdered drink I and others think. Buy some ready to drink to see if you 'like' the taste. I enjoy the powder but don't like the ready to drink. Glad I learned that last September so I could change my nutrition plans before the race.

For all the IMs I recall reading about, lemon lime on bike, run has various flavors.

I decided against a fall HIM...mainly because I don't want to drop more money in race fees, lodging, pet boarding fees etc.  So decided instead to do a 2 mile ocean swim race and ride the B2B course in Wilmington.  I figured that will mirror IMFL conditions as close as I can get around here.

Hmmm I bought the powered and it is so salty tasting.  Do not like it.  Not even enjoyable.  I'll try the bottled and see how that tastes.    I love my Orange Gatorade

I completely understand. The race fees are bad enough, but it's all the other stuff too.  Even for Augusta, where I will drive, I figure between everything it is still going to cost around $1,500.

enjoy the swim!

I bought SWA tickets today to come race...guess I'm planning on racing.

We need to find a place to stay. Wonder if Shores of Panama will be more beat up from Spring break college kids? As it stands just my husband Kevin & I are coming.

Monday we hope to do a boat/dolphin cruise that we did last year. Renting a boat, bring some drinks and food, hang out on the pontoon, go out to little stripe of land that is undeveloped and walk around. It was a blast and we saw lots of dolphins playing even one that was throwing a fish much like a kid plays ball with himself.

Any BTers want to come along, keep it in mind. I figure it would be a good way to wind down and celebrate turning 50 day before the race.

Where do you rent the boat/dolphin cruise from? That sounds like a lot of fun. I have a group of friends that are coming down as well and they would really enjoy that!

It is about 3-5 miles from the race site.

I'll look for the information and post it.

I'm feeling better about my training after the past 7 days. 100 mile hilly bike ride on Saturday. 5 mile run on Sunday. Monday started with my fastest 10k run ever and ended with a 20 mile bike ride. On Tuesday I ran my fastest 7 miler ever, followed by a 2 mile swim, followed by a 56 mile bike. Now I'm sitting in the airport. Gonna take a 5 day vacation with only runs. I would like to get an ocean swim in too since I'm going to Ft. Lauderdale. I'm afraid Hurrican Irene may have the waters churning too much for that.

woohoo! KG is going to Florida!! Great news... oh yeah, one MORE person to finish ahead of me... but we get to have birthday parties too! (It looks like I may be celebrating my birthday at IMAZ, too, cuz the IronHeart Racing group is trying to get the ball rolling on the year-long registration-to-finish-line experience... never would have dreamed I had to consider registering for the SECOND IM before I even finish the first one!)

Training is a wonderful experience, ain't it? :-)

Did not feel it today....didn't push hard today on the long bike.  I am looking forward to my recovery week in 1 1/2 weeks.  I think the long bike rides are the hardest part of IM training.  Not so much the physical part of it but mentally.

Need to find a place to stay.....we have been looking on vbro.

Shores of Panama is mostly bigger units which we don't need. Sunbird has many 1 bedroom condos. Are there any other condos close to race start/finish that have single bedroom units.

Does a map of the street with condo building names marked exist?

Anyone know how close Majestic Beach Towers are from race hotel?

I want to limit how much walking I have to do pre race.

If you zoom in on google maps it starts to show names of businesses.  Unfortunately I'm sure there are more than it's showing.  Sunbird is probably your best bet!

I am glad I am not the only one who feels this way.  Definitely feeling the mental fatigue more than the physical fatigue on the long rides.
