What kind of tires are you planning on using?

I did a lot of gravel riding Sunday to practice my setup.  I'm using my Fulcrum Racing alloys with 25mm Specialized Roubaix Armadillo tires.

Here's a google maps view of what one of the test roads looked like:

Pretty good simulation of what I'll be seeing.  The challenges will be navigating that with a large group (75 people in my "wave") and the fact that it's raining all week, which should make the gravel sections interesting at best.

Well I think I am getting over my bout of FOMO, at least temporarily.

Coach Michi and some of the others are signing up for IMAZ 70.3 and told me I should do it with them. Well between Erin's description of the bike and my wanting my Saturday mornings back I'm not super interested (slightly but not super). Which is progress for me. Normally I'd be going nuts wanting to do the inagural with them. I guess I can be taught.

I am still considering doing Pikes Peak "with" Salty, though. Because the challenge of that one intrigues me.

Soooo, why only considering?

Ummmmm, fear of having my azz handed to me by the great Pikes Peak? There's a reason that America the Beautiful was written up there. It's friggin HIGH!!!!!!!

Well you just have to accept it. You WILL have your azz handed to you. As will I.

Then we will sing America the beautiful at the top, because we will be so high

How could I possibly say no to that?! Registration is next week

DOOOOOO EEEEEET!!  I'm driving for the brewery tour afterwards in case you're interested in rehydrating.

Well I've got the go ahead from Super-Sherpa-DH and a qualifying HM sooooo....

Awesome!

YAY!!  Here's a list of breweries in the area.  Anything in CO Springs or Manitou Springs is possible.  The others would involve a little more driving and would cut down on the # of places to visit.  There are a plethora of other websites and resources for locating breweries in the area.  Just google "Colorado Springs breweries" and you'll get about 3.5 million hits.    Any other Manatees want to join us? I have room for 2 more in the car.....

Wishing the west wasn't so far west...

Woop Woop!!!! indeed.

In the 5min of "planning" we've done, thoughts are: get out of the heat, celebrate 4-0,  long weekend trip, have in-laws meet us to help with kids, he wants to do marathon...and I have a week to decide, but leaning towards do it up big. I've got 5 months

The heat is back in SC which means running totally sucks again! Had a great brick on Sunday...and a "put me out of my misery" run today. Boo hoo.

Pity party over. New day tomorrow.

And the epic music should be playing as we read your RR, thus making it epic-er! (how fun would that be? A "soundtrack" to RRs? ) Ok, seriously, this looks like a great challenge, even more so with your forecast. What is it with you and wet races?

Good morning manatees. I'm in need of some help. I've gotten the aero wheel itch, but I still don't know enough about bike equipment to make decisions on my own. Are these HED's a good deal? I'm trying to keep from breaking the bank, but from what I've seen you've got to spend some money on wheels, there are no cheap ones.

http://forum.slowtwitch.com/gforum.cgi?post=5360493;sb=post_latest_...

And the rational part of my brain is reminding me that I said I wouldn't go bonkers on buying equipment. At least until if (big if) I could be competitive in my age group. Should I just race with my poor boy stock wheels for now? I've got a sprint later this month, then HIM late April and then I'm eyeing Cozumel IM in Nov.

Originally posted by Jet Black Good morning manatees.

I'll let someone who is more knowledgeable answer your wheels question.

My question is have you done all that you can to explore other time savings?  A bike fitting?  An aero helmet?

Find a mentor. Make a list of at least three people that you could approach for help, list your specific needs and then be courageous enough to begin asking.
