Champion 14677 | Subject: RE: Body Composition Challenge tluhring - 2011-10-04 12:15 PM Had my first half marathon this Sunday. I felt great through the end and picked a rabbit to follow for the last 3 miles that was probably going faster than I would normally run. She and I were switching leads through the last couple of miles and then she took off sprinting for the last 100m. I cursed her under my breath, dug down, and sprinted past her to win my own silly personal battle. I didn't have anything left in the tank after crossing the finish line, so I think that I did well. I skipped weighing in yesterday because I was 200.5lbs. and thought that it may be a case of the post-race bloat. Weighed in this morning.... 199.5. Ok, slightly better, but way up from where I wanted to be. Abdomen - 14 (down from 24 on 7/29/11) Chest - 14 (down from 22 on 7/29/11) Thigh - 14 (down from 24 on 7/29/11) %Body Fat - 12.61% (down from 20.58 on 7/29/11) Lbs Fat - 25.16 (down from 41.81) Lean mass - 174.34 (up from 161.38) Gain in Lean from start = 12.96 lbs Loss in Fat from start = 16.66 lbs I'm not sure if I agree with the calipers. For some strange reason, I think that I am subconsciously getting lower measurements than what is real... maybe it is time to do a bod pod (our local body comp measurements at the rec on campus) appointment. Regardless of the scale/calipers, I think that I am in the best shape of my life and that is what is important. Good luck with the rest of the week all. I may not be active this week on the boards as I am getting married this Saturday in South Carolina (on the beach in Kiawah Island). Cheers. -t What a beautiful place to get married! It looks like you are going to have great weather for it, too. Great job with the body comp changes!!! Great progress. |

I have lost an inch in my waist, one in da hips and 3 in da leg. The weigh and body fat remain the same. Some progress is better than none but I sure would have hoped that I had made better head way by now. Sure wish I could get the thyroid meds correct. That helps so much with the energy and motivation, if nothing else. |

Master 1480 Southwest Chicago 'burbs | Subject: RE: Body Composition Challenge *hangs head* My marathon is Sunday. I've spent the better part of the last 4 months training my off (obviously, not LITERALLY) for it. And I've basically sabotaged myself by gaining 5 pounds in the last two weeks. My weight's up at the point where I can see it on my body. This is usually my upper-limit alarm that kicks me in the butt and heads me back down in the right direction. And I'll do that... I'm just disappointed that I let things get out of hand so close to race date. My monthly measurements will be done Saturday -- I expect that everything's gone up. But - once this marathon is done? CrossFit, here I come! And I can't wait! Very excited to try it out and do something new and different that doesn't involve hours of running every week! |

CrossFit, here I come! And I can't wait! Very excited to try it out and do something new and different that doesn't involve hours of running every week! I found it harder to focus and make wise choices the week or two leading up to my race. Hang in there - race hard - and then get back on track. You know you can do it. Congrats to everyone on the downward trend. I'm 2 pounds down from when we first started. It's incredible though that it's taking this long. It begs the question "Do I want it bad enough?" Because if the answer is 'yes' why don't I make better choices?? I had a big party Saturday night and there's tons of leftover yummy cheese in my fridge - but rather than throw it away (aka "waste it") I nibble pieces every day (I REALLY love cheese)... sabbotaging my weight loss plan. So the $30 odd dollars is worth more than me than getting lean? I DO want to be lean - but for some reason - the need isn't as dire or pressing as I wish it was! Not sure what it will take to make this desire to be lean more of a priority such that I make better choices!? |

You have trained hard and you are going to do great! Keep a positive attitude even when the going gets tough, and it will. A huge part of the marathon is mental. Once you cross that finish line, it'll be worth every bit of struggle. I can't wait to read the race report! |

Expert 1580 Ankeny, Iowa | Subject: RE: Body Composition Challenge Was 143 yesterday which I think it down from the start 2-4 lbs (can't remember where I started). Carpal tunnel surgery Monday morning (no ulnar nerve surgery at this time) so we will see what the Neuro doc says about working out after that. Otherwise tight ship on the eating when I can't work out. Hoping to at least be able to continue to walk.

Master 1480 Southwest Chicago 'burbs | Subject: RE: Body Composition Challenge The marathon is over! The marathon is OVER!! (yes, that makes me happy enough to shout...) Weight is up around 149... which is a good 4-5 pounds over where I started this journey. But, I'm slowly turning things around. Last week got a DEXA scan done to measure body fat ... and as I expected, I'm up around 30%. So - my goal - is to drop it 4% over the next 4 months. And there's at least a little external motivation: the place that does the scans will give me 2 free scans if I can hit that. Cooked and food prepped this weekend -- that always makes me behave during the week -- but need to figure out a way to streamline the process so it doesn't take me 2-3 hours. Some weekends I can do it with no problem, but when I get time-crunched, it's the first thing to go and then I eat badly all week. And post-marathon life has started ... I went to my first CrossFit session on Saturday! And DANG am I sore! Awesome. |
