I saw that! One long day (if we averaged 12 minute miles, it would be almost 13 hours), but no overnight so that's good.

Plus - we need four Manatees + Driver

Minus - we need a van (or maybe two cars and two drivers?)

One SUV type vehicle would work as well. I bet we could find 4 manatees. My DH would drive for sure.

Of course, currently this is WAY out of my comfort zone, so I could drive.

Well.  This is what happens when we brag about our warm sunny weather.  We have gotten close to a foot of snow in the past few days.  Saturday I was running with my training partner in 50+km/hr winds (bent over at 45 degree angle going-as-hard-as-you-can-but-still-can't-hit-the-pace-epic).  I am on a snow day today from work; it is supposed to let up later so expect to be back tomorrow.  Public schools were all closed yesterday and today.  We just don't have the infrastructure/equipment to deal with this because it happens so rarely.  Lots of people hate it, but I kinda like it.  I am close enough to walk to the Skytrain (our 'subway') and can get pretty much where ever I need to go that way, so don't have to worry about driving.  My poor little 10lb Seraphina gets lost, but the other 3 dogs love it.  I have to shovel the lawn so Seraphina will go potty .  Hope everyone is doing well out there in Manatee land!

Minimum of 12 min/miles - is it on the page somewhere or did you do math?  Yeah, this Pokey Pete can handle <12 on flat/rolling but can't necessarily be counted on to hit that on later legs/hard sections.

The thing to remember is that the team as a whole needs to average that, not each individual runner. We'd just need to create a team or two that can achieve this.

Also remember that this is on roads so it's elevation without trail running obstacles.

AND.... The only cut off is that all teams START the last leg by 7:30PM. The start times range from 5 to 8 am. Slower teams start earlier.

Manatees!!!

How about this for a meetup instead of the Florida relay. The location is great, it is only one day, We already have 2 drivers (me and my hubster) and probably our cars as well so that is taken care of.

Cherokee and Asheville both have tons of things to do: There is wonderful Mountain biking, Paddling, hiking, restaurants, breweries,

AND I can accommodate folks here for free, for at least the night before the race. (We have 3 rooms, a sleeper-sofa room, and 3 baths for folks). Rooms in Cherokee would be good for the end of the race since our place is about 2 hours from there.

Land and Sky Relay (Asheville to Cherokee)
Event info: http://gloryhoundevents.com/event/land-and-sky-relay/
Need 4 runners plus driver/sherpas
Runners cover 13-18.3 miles over three legs
Early entry fee is $95/runner + gas + accommodations (probably 2 nights?) + Manatee team shirts!!!
* Every runner must wear a flashing light on their front and back during each leg.
* During the hours of 5-8 AM and 4-7 PM, all runners must also wear reflective vests and head lamps.
* Teams will be checked for compliance at all Transfer Points and those not meeting these requirements will not be allowed to continue
* All teams must start their final leg by 7:30 PM. (Saturday, November 2 – Team Starts – 5:00-8:15 AM – White Duck Taco)

LETS Have a show of Hands... Who is interested?

Unfortunately, I would have to be a no go. I have DD1 getting married the next week and we are inundated with family stuff for the couple of proceeding weeks. However, i am a supporter of the idea, if only because it is more scenic than Ragnar Fl.

A daughters wedding is a good excuse. (barely). The scenery rating is definitely high for this event.

Excellent beer rating too!

Indeed! One of my favorite things to do in summer is kayak or tube down the river, stopping at breweries. November would NOT be a good time to do that, though.

If i weren't already doing this, I would do it  My  group goes to this area multiple times a year to run, hike, drink etc; so as soon as notice about this relay came out, we had a team. I'm excited for it, but also sad that means I cannot join the manatee team.

Robin your place sounds great! Another reason for me to be sad

For those of you unfamiliar with the area, it is wonderful and you should do this !!

Partial hand up - I really doubt I will, but am waiting to see if I get in to the NYC Marathon lottery (race is that same weekend) before making any fall plans. They are supposed to announce lottery winners before the end of February.

I would be one of your slower runners - I average 12 minute miles on a regular day (run/walk) so keep that in mind
