The RD posted that people are wising up and putting triples on for the hills so more are finishing the climb.

Ryan--you make me chuckle....."go on a scenic hike".  Hiking in WI is not quite the same as Washington State! I do get the whole concept of doing some fun stuff, but to me running is REALLY FUN STUFF!  Need to work on negotiating that back into my plan.

Had a good lesson with Steve today.  One could ask why it was good since we basically ripped apart my stroke some more, added the new dimension of EVF and high elbow and ended up in the weight room to learn how to strengthen my rotator cuffs.  I could have left frustrated, but left totally jazzed to get started in the pool on Thursday.  I also agreed not to EVER make fun of my swimming again.   Keeping everything positive.....signed the Little Mermaid.

Follow this link for the SavageMan photos from this year.  My race number is 600 and my macho hubby is 496.  Unfortunately  there are a few too many of me pushing my bike - but they were all at the same place.  And look at all the other people doing it!!!   This race had over 20 different photographers so not all the photos are uploaded yet.

I GOT UP EXTRA EARLY JUST TO POST THIS.....WHO IS RACING THIS WEEKEND BESIDES TREVOR? WHAT ARE YOU DOING AND WHAT ARE THE GOALS?

Assuming it isn't a torrential downpour, I have a 66m bike event on Saturday that most of you would love.  It is sponsored by the Tyranena brewery and at the end you have a ticket for really yummygreasy BBQ and a bunch of beers.  My favorite happens to be "Three Beaches Honey Blonde", but I might give "Bitter Woman" a try this year.

Sam, Tracy and  I are all running the Army 10 miler on Sunday.

My goal is 1 hr 25 minutes which would be an 8:30 pace.  (I think my math is correct)

I have the Army 10 miler this weekend.  Not quite sure what I'll be able to pull off but I'm going to aim for a pace b/t 8:15 and 8:30.  I think 8:15 is out of my grasp at the moment so 8:30 is more realistic but will still hurt.  LOL

Very excited to meet Tracy and her husband this weekend.  Good luck fellow racers!

Good luck guys!  Run fast!  I need everyone's help here.  Seriously.  I am thinking about signing up for IMKY next year and am ready to pull the trigger.  Someone talk me out of it.  I have given myself to Friday.  If I don't do it by Friday, I'm not going to do it.  If it fills up, I will probably do B2B instead.  Should I or Shouldn't I?  Since I've only been doing tri's one year, I keep telling myself to give it another year.  What do you think?  If I do it, I really want to work hard on my biking and running this winter.  If not, I am going to enjoy my mtn bike a whole lot more.

After doing Augusta Sunday, I felt great yesterday and actually swam 1000.  Maybe a little run tomorrow.

Hey Chris

Why the hesitation?  You had a great HIM so the fact you have been at it a short time seems pretty irrelevant to me.  I did Sprints poorly last year, Olys and HIMs this year, and I signed up for '10.  Seems like a no brainer to me.

To me the big thing is can you put in the time to train properly?  That is what keeps me from ever thinking about doing a full.  If you have the time to train for the full IM, I say go for it.

If you've discussed this thoroughly with your better half, understand as best you can what its going to take and you are confident about getting to that starting line then do it.  This is life.  One shot.  Attack it!

And you don't even want to get me started on the reaction of "oh its only your second year..Bullsh*t".  That drives me nuts.  And it did long before I even thought about doing IM next year.

But since you asked, haha, I'm going to throw this at you...  That TT start at Kentucky made me not even consider it for my first.  Maybe its dumb but an IM start is 100% something that I must go through if I'm going to spend my hard earned time training for it.

Go B2B, IMFL (I know you are busy but might be a cool road trip to go volunteer, cheer Linda on, and register the next day) or pay the community fund slot at Wisconsin or Canada.  The difference in $$$ for the community fund vice normal registration isn't much all things considered.  And from an MG standpoint, we'll have peeps that have raced these courses already or will have intimate knowledge (Suzy).  And they are tried and tested as far as support and environment go.

Train smart.  Train hard.  Race your a$$ off  and go drink beer.

Chris,

I am in my second year of tris's and doing IMFL this Nov (yikes).  I would not focus on how long you have been doing this sport.  Realistically, you have done a 1/2 (and were awesome BTW), so the next step (in my opinion) is to look at the IM training plans and figure out if you have the time to train for it.   Keep in mind it isn't just the 6 hr ride or the 3 hr run, but also factor in the time it takes to get out there and then "clean up" after.....I have found that piece is really time consuming.  Another factor is the fatigue.  Some days you will be so tired you don't think you can function!  Also, look at the races and see what best fits your timetable.  IMKY may be close, but does training and racing in the heat sound good to you?  Some like it, some can't do it.   (I know it wasn't hot this year, but typically Aug is hot in KY).  Also look at the race itself....the swim (some like the river swim in KY, some don't - some like the ocean in FL, some don't, etc.) the bike, the run...hills, flat, whatever.  Look at everything for each race.  But I think the biggest piece to consider is the family time -that is a huge sacrifice (it may be due to training or due to fatigue)...I am fortuate that I don't work so I can train alot during the day....but I have missed some "family time" and that is tough for me...and for my family.

Good luck.  Oh, and just know once you hit that submit button when signing up you will freak out with a "What the heck did I just do ?"  That's natural....all part of the fun!

My daughter is doing her first 5k (as a passenger in the jogging stroller).  There is a 5k/10k run to raise money for a local DV charitable organization.  No goals other than supporting a good cause.

Chris, I second everything everyone is saying. That is what I am considering in my decision on when to race a full.  Good luck in your decision.

Goals for this weekend - don't think I'll be keeping up with Sam and Tony.  I'll be happy to hold a sub 10 minute pace and bring it in around 1:40 for 10 miles.  But looking forward to meeting the group and having a great time!

I just signed up for Augusta 1/2 IM for 2010! My first half IM. It was 10% off signing up now. My buddy Harold did it last week and loved it so he is doing again next year also. (This is a fun post for my 800th).

Ryan--- That is crap!  I asked you one time to help with some drywall and I get this!! WE are not finished with job!  Everything I propose to you that we did is safe, sound, and completely normal!  So where you come up with this stuff is BLASPHEMY!  However I have some ideas for the off season which would require you to go to REI a couple times !

Chris--- I don't think anyone is going to try and talk you out of this! If it is something you have a desire to do, then we are here to kick you in the butt....

Jeremy--- I thought headphones were not permitted during races?  REBEL!

Suzy--- I really look forward to the off season!  That is where the ADVENTURE comes out!  It is a time to work on speed, cross trainining and "relaxing!"
