We're driving down to the Barrier Islands in NC. We rented a beach house with another family and I'm looking forward to practicing my OWS.. So far all my OWS have been in races.. hopefully hurricane Earl doesn't create bad swim conditions.. Has anyone raced without a wetsuit in OW, did you notice a considerable difference with vs without? The Nation's tri might not allow them since the water temp is currently 85.. it's making me a little nervous to think i have to race/swim without one on.. it's been sort of my mental crutch to get through the swim (ie you can't sink with a wetsuit on).. |

They always seem to find someplace cold enough to take a reading to allow wetsuits, especially for a big race like that. If not, there really isn't much difference, you'll just be slower. Though funny the non-wetsuit OWS's I have done have always been some of the most contact of any that I have done. |

Elite ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() The Washington Olympic which was in the Pamlico River was not wetsuit legal. No problems. Look on the bright side, you do noy have to worry about getting it off quickly, everyone will be at the same "disadvantage" and there wont be any constriction if the suit it tight in places. |

I'm hoping the sun pokes its head out so that my kids feel like spending some time at the pool one last time. Monday, I'm looking forward to a one-day reprieve from the rat race of starting school, letting the kiddos be kiddos again. Maybe we'll have a pajama day (after my run, of course)! I'm sure something social will end up happening, but so far no plans. We're all a little beat after vacations and school starting! |

Elite ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() tahrens - 2010-09-01 9:15 AM I made it back into the country and my body is rehydrating in the North Carolina humidity. What an amazing experience. Body marking was the coolest thing. It was interesting to see the athletes FIRST thing in the morning. Some were literally shaking from nerves. Got my photo taken with my fist athlete (at 4:55am) and even marked a few pros, including the winning female! The funniest part was the athletes are all ready to tell you their race number but when you ask for their age you get, " uuuuhhhhh, uuuuuhhhhh........." My husband had some guy that just kept repeating his age group; Doug, "What's your age?" Athlete, "40-45" Doug, "No, I need your age for your calf?" Athlete, "40-45" Doug, "I can't put 40-45 on your leg." Athlete, "40-45" Poor guy. It was great to get them to relax and smile by telling them to form a line and stip in front of me ![]() Trevor, sorry I wasn't able to call you on race day. My phone was doing funny things being in Canada and finally locked up completely. Besides, I was up at 3am that morning and went back for a quick nap that turned in 3.5 hours of sleep. Then I saw the weather and decided the TV in my hotel was good. I heard it hailed on the bike course coming down Yellow Lake. Speaking of the bike course - I GOTTA GET ME SOME MORE GEARS!!!!! Holy Crap!!! What Canadians call rollers ain't what North Carolinians call rollers. If it climbs 500ft, plateaus and then climbs another 500ft - that ain't a roller, that's a mountain!!! Definitely gonna have to intensify my Ggggggrrrrrrrrrrrr for this race!!!! I put on a 12-26 and it was fine out there. I remember when we all talked about hills before....now you know!! I have some photos to share soon. Nice one of the group running in Seattle and several men wearing capris in Canada. Guess Steve isn't alone in his fashion sense. Those guys were so not Canadians!! |

Hopeing for a hike on Sunday and a run on Sun or Mon. Kris and I have gotten lots of QT with the kids gone but we are ready for them to be home! They are going to be so SPOILED!!! |

Thanks for the links. I ended up talking to the bike guy and telling him that another LBS that I called had the tires at another price and he knocked $10 off the price. He also explained how the prices can be so different etc.. All said and done I don't have any excuses not to ride so it's on the agenda for this weekend. I know I saw it before but can't find it now. Anyone here into Words with Friends? you know...those of you in taper or something. As for those of you on the East coast. Be careful, smart and safe! |

Hopefully the storm isn't too bad and the locals don't get too much damage, can't imagine the stress they must be going through. |

I could see the outer rim of the storm front this morning driving in. The clouds were moving in from the east/southeast in a massive surge of rippling white. Very impressive. I'm excited because it will knock the temperatures down into the 80's. Woo hooo. |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() gdale - 2010-09-02 1:19 PM Quiet today... BOO!!! Blah blah blah blah blah!!! I'm home with a sick kid... Tummy issues. Thought it might be something she ate but teacher told me she's had 3 kids out this week with similar symptoms, so something is going around. Rest day from running, so I'm just bustling around the house. Poor girl was in tears about not going to school, cuz she loves her teacher AND there is an ice cream social tonight. Of course the standing rule is "If you're too sick to go to school, you're too sick for the ice cream social." But I might have to break that rule tonight as it would break my heart for her to miss this. It's been the highlight of her year since her brother started kindergarten!! Let's see... I had an IM dream last night. It was a funny one, something about my kids doing an IM and this event sort-of just going on all day and people bopping in and out to check up on results. Very dreamlike, didn't make sense, but clearly my brain has IM on its mind... and checking on people's results throughout the day. Can't wait to do that to Suzy in T Minus 10!!!! |

Elite ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Based upon my coach's advice, and members of the MG, I have withdrawn from the Nation's tri in DC 9/12. The good news is that Inside-Out Sports got me a slot (at the regular price) for the White Lake Olympic 9/11. It is two hours away and I have heard that it is one of the nicest lakes around. There are only 700 participants, NOT 7000! So I am happy that I still have a warm up race for Augusta! thanks for the advice. Doug |
