Ok I know I'm late on getting back on to report about my Elvis Dash this last Saturday, but was waiting for results to be posted (which still haven't).

Race -

I did not feel my best this run.  I haven't ran outside for a couple weeks due to the cold weather (nothing like some of you, but for us PNW it is cold).  I have been running on the treadmills at the gym and it definatly proved to me that I need to get back out in the weather.

The race consisted of hills, not slight inclines, but hills that lasted what felt like forever.  It definatly supprised me when I got going.  This is my first experiance with a course that consisted of mainly inclines.  I did manage to run the whole 5K hill and all !! YEAH FOR ME!! (Big step for me)

No jump suits, but Cheryl and I did sport some fun side burns and sun glasses. (one day I'll figure out how to post a pic. lol) and I found out that I do like fried peanut butter and banana sandwiches.

fattyfatfat - 2013-01-21 8:05 PM i can't believe suz and dino took steve to the stip bar and he caused this.  c'mon man.  class up!

Johnny Boy, I find this article and the quote from your signature line very funny.  They go together so nicely, except they are from VERY different kinds of people.  Oh wait, maybe not.  I can now imagine Lance saying, "B!tch, don't even try to snatch my green!"

Training note: had a great swim this morning.  Tonight's a running night and it's gonna be COLD.

i'm sure you teachers see it every day.  but i just can't figure out whats wrong with the world today.  i feel bad for our kids for what we've done for their future.  hopefully they'll learn from us and get this place back on track.

Lance has certainly fallen from grace in this house, they were showing him with Oprah on the news the other night and my 9 year old looked up and said "who's that dad?" then he recognized him and shrugged and said "oh, it's just that cheater..."

The funny thing is here it's the same way.  Even funnier that in the fall when it's 0C/32F in October we bundle up but when it's 0C/32F in March you want to break out the shorts and T-shirts LOL.

Training Note: No training today as I was sore from yesterday and getting ready for my trip to Mexico on Sunday.  So for one week my traing plan is going to be all screwed up except for all the swimming I will be doing

That so works for Dallas too...  I love it when it gets down to 40 degrees and the prima donnas that live around here parade around the Kroger in their furs...  Why would you ever have a fur coat in Texas?  I get it in Green Bay or Minnesota, but Dallas???

Great Job!   Way to focus on the positive!  I am not a fan of hills, being as gravity impaired as I am, so I can relate to how much of a mental triumph it can be when you motor straight up 'em!

I had one of the strangest runs around the reservoir today. It is amazing what you can notice when you pay attention to your surroundings. It was a beautiful sunny but windy day, 17 degrees with the wind chill making it feel about 10. This trail hugs the edges of a beautiful reservoir, yes there are beautiful spots in NJ especially out west NJ where I live. There was no one stupid enough like me to be out there in the cold so it was nice and quiet just me and nature. Within the first 1/2 mile a bald eagle launches off a branch overhead and skims just above the surface of the water, it was spectacular and I had to stop and watch as it glided gracefully back skyward with one flap of its large majestic wings, very cool.

I was dressed pretty warm for this run, however, I only grabbed my pair of thin gloves. Around  mile two along this fairly technical  trail my hands start to get real cold. I start thinking how stupid I was not to bring warmer gloves. Just as I am thinking how cold my fingers are, I see a glove hanging from a tree branch. Someone found this glove and left it hanging on this branch apparently just for me Wink . The weird part was the glove fit perfectly and as soon as I put it on one hand the other hand started to warm up ( yeah I know that is weird).

Then around mile three I see something stuck in the barbed wire fence, as I get closer I notice it is a dead hawk. I think it miscalculated its flight path and was cruising pretty fast and ....well you can imagine the rest Yell

The last bird encounter was around mile 5, at this point I am running on the paved road along the reservoir. It is a curvy road and has a beautiful view of the water, cars cruise very fast on this road. All of a sudden a dove lands 10 feet in front of me. I walk toward it and it flies off when I am within two feet of it.

Hmmm what does all this mean.... maybe I should be place a very large bet on the Ravens to win the Superbowl....Laughing

I'm pretty sure the Falcons won't be winning any Superbowl this year. Perhaps you should bet on the Ratbirds (er ... Ravens). But since my Steelers & Falcons are out, I'll be joining the niners camp.

I think it's awesome!!! Gonna take the football out of it and just say thanks for sharing. I LOVE runs like that... I've had some moments with bald eagles but more often my favorite bird sightings are pileated woodpeckers (no comments from the peanut gallery!!) -- they are so gorgeous!! Now, when I see raccoons they scare the crap out of me -- I have an irrational fear of those creatures. Coyotes = also awesome. Nature sightings are one o's the very special things about trail running. Way to brave the elements and love the glove karma!

Okay, I'll let the sports references go for a bit - but COYOTES?!?  Yikes. Not commenting on the hockey team (although that's taking an effort!), but the critters???  Scary, and way to prevalent here.  There's a den near the bottom of our hill, and too many small pets have been lost.  Not a fan.

The coyotes we have around here are super skiddish. At least when we run into them. I am sure they are stealthy little critters when it's dinner time.

So very cool about the glove!  I love stuff like this.  Last week when we were really cold (by Tucson standards that is Tongue out), I was on an AWFUL bike ride.  Legs tired, freezing my butt off, and wind blowing like crazy.  At the end of my ride, I had a humming bird fly along next to me for like a minute.  It was crazy but made that ride worth it.  Way to get out there!  That would be too cold for me.  lol

Thanks David for the catch on choosing the wrong fowl - fixed..Smile

As for coyotes, I have another story that I will bore you with. when I was on one of my runs in FL last year. I was doing a 3 mile loop from my hotel around an industrial complex. I saw what looked like a very large dog out in the field lying down about 100 yards away. It was watching me very closely (slyly in fact) realized it was a coyote, this was about 4 in the afternoon.

On my second loop it was about 50 yards closer lying down again, again watching me very closely and following me with its head. I do have chicken legs so I am sure that I was looking tasty. I was searching for the nearest safe haven, wondering if it was possible to out run a coyote (NOT !!)

Well needless to say I did not finish my last and final loop. I imagined this coyote hiding behind a bush next time around (any childhood memories here for anyone?) Beep! Beep! Cool

I just spent 18 hours on three flights to go from Raleigh, NC to Taipei. That is longer than an Ironman, and the last three hours of the run would most-likely not be done near a screaming baby (runner maybe).

It's Hump Day, and that means it's time to talk racing.  Who's going to have some fun and make us proud this weekend?  What's your goal and your plan to achieve that goal?

And here's a question for everyone.  What's your story?  What attracted you to triathlon?  How did you get on this crazy train?

I'm racing on Saturday.  Racing to get my seat on a plane out of Wisconsin and to Virgin Gorda!  My goal is to sit my a$$ in a chaise lounge and have some groovy looking pool boy serve me.  I've been practicing my sitting pose in the mirror for a while so my pooch isn't too noticeable.Tongue out

What got me started in triathlon?  IM WI coming to Madison in 2002.  Didn't really know squat about the sport until then, couldn't swim, didn't have a bike and maybe ran 2-3 miles at a time every once in a while.  IM created the big KABOOM in my head.....had to do it.

Ahh.. This I can read.  No racing for me (shocking I know... Someday though!).... The crazy train started with my wife racing. She had been doing it for a while, and if I was ever going to see her, I should probably join her.  I figured it's easy enough.  I ran my whole life (playing soccer--- 13 years later of "running--- TOTALLY DIFFERENT), biked my whole life (13 years later of biking--- Totally different than childhood "riding"), and grew up on the swim team (13 years later of swimming---- Totally different.  A mosh pit in the water!).

I would change it for the world.  It as allowed me to see and do really cool things in my life, oh and eat whatever I want !

I think it means that all of the bird sightings are over......no more Eagles, Seahawks, Falcons, etc.

NINERS!!!!!

oh, and for all of the Canadians.....Sharks are currently up 6-2 over the Oilers.  What is an Oiler, anyway???

That was horrible. I'm a bit ashamed of to admit my allegence after a game like that.

Just remember though, San Jose can win until it comes to May. Then Thorton,Marleau,et al all crawl back into their shells.

It's Hump Day, and that means it's time to talk racing.  Who's going to have some fun and make us proud this weekend?  What's your goal and your plan to achieve that goal?

No racing for me, I'll be on the trainer again I think for a longish ride, looks like we're getting the remnants of a cyclone that hit Far North Queensland.

I got into triathlons after someone pointed out that since I was already running and ocean swimming why not get a bike and do tri's. Seemed logical to me at the time and now it's become a lifestyle!
